Eunice Vincent - 1913-2008
Eunice Reeves Vincent, 95, of Ashland went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008.
Eunice was born Aug. 1, 1913, in Denton, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles L. and Jennie Patrick Reeves.
She had previously worked as a secretary for CPR, International a corn products company in Chicago, Ill., and was a former postmaster with the Hitchins, Ky., post office for 17 years. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Vincent.
Survivors include a son, Darrell Eugene “Dick” Vincent and his wife, Betty of Ashland; a sister, Beulah Hajek of Owensboro, Ky.; two grandchildren, Eugeni Greene and her husband, John and Eric Vincent and his wife, Christi; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Zachary, Emily and Austin; and three special caregivers, Lois Bond, Madeline Smith and Virginia Keeton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Clell Elliott. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call on Wednesday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Hazel Dean Middleton - 1921-2008
Hazel Dean Middleton, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at her residence in Worthington, Ky.
Hazel was born on July 13, 1921, in Worthington, a daughter of the late Lowe and Laura Bays Thomas. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mable Tackett and two brothers, Paul Thomas and Ed “Junior” Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Raceland, Ky.
Surviving are one daughter, Terri D. (Stephen) Smith of Flatwoods, Ky.; five sons, David E. Thomas of Wurtland, Ky., Donald E. (Jean) Middleton of Wurtland, Gary T. (Anita) Middleton of Worthington, Jerry D. (Christine) Middleton of Flatwoods, and James C. (Kathy) Middleton of Ashland, Ky.; one sister, Frances Bates of Flatwoods; three brothers, Earl Thomas of South Point, Ohio, Cecil Thomas of Worthington and Creed Thomas of Wurtland; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Tom Stevens. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Richard A. Adkins - 1939-2008
Richard A. Adkins, age 69, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Dec. 23, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born in 1939 in Argillite, Ky., a son of Nannie Pauline Adkins of Argillite and the late Ernest J. Adkins. He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Keith Adkins.
He was retired from the Navy where he served for 15 years and was an Army veteran for 11 years. He was a brakeman for CSX.
Additional survivors are his wife of 50 years, Betty Lee Johnson Adkins of Flatwoods; two sons, Timothy (Renee) Adkins of Bellefonte and Richard Adkins of South Carolina; one daughter, Leigh Ann (Edward) Ashley of Flatwoods; two sisters, Phyllis Salyers of Argillite and Joyce Bauman of Ina, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. Dec. 27, 2008, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Steven Fraley spoke. Burial was in Prichard Family Cemetery in Greenup with military rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 26 at the funeral home.
Edd Miles Barnette - 1930-2008
Edd Miles Barnette, 78, of Louisa, husband of Corlis Compton Barnette, passed away Dec. 29, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Born Jan. 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Willis Barnette and Wanda (Nolan) May.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Craig E. (Lisa) Barnette of Charleston, W.Va.; a daughter, Edris B. Humphrey (Eric) of Paintsville; and five grandchildren, Amy Barnette of Lexington, Kyle Barnette of Louisa, and Cory, Abby and Katy Humphrey of Paintsville.
With 26 years service at Huntington Alloys, formerly the International Nickel Company (INCO), he retired as a shift superintendent in 1989. Prior to beginning employment with INCO, he was a driller in the oil and gas fields and served in the U.S. Army for four years where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, an active member of the Lawrence County Democrat Party and Highlands Beef Cattleman Association and attended Louisa United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, Dec. 30, at Young Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Louisa. Funeral services will be conducted by Guy Moyer on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Louisa United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with burial following at Compton Family Cemetery.

Caleb Matthew Dickerson, 27, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Ohio, with the Rev. Eddie Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio.
Matt was born Jan. 18, 1981, in Huntington. He graduated from South Point High School in 1999 and attended Sheridan Freewill Baptist Church. Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Everett Adkins; and his paternal grandparents, Bill and Freda Dickerson.
He is survived by his father, Dudley (Sallie) Dickerson of Lavalette, W.Va.; his mother, Carrie L. Adkins Dickerson of Ashland, Ky.; one brother, Jacob (Jennifer) Dickerson of South Point, Ohio; one sister, Candace Dickerson of Lavalette; his maternal grandmother, Genevieve Adkins of South Point, Ohio; his girlfriend, Terri Flati of Huntington and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
