Robert “Bob” Cumpston (1934-2007)
Robert “Bob” Cumpston, 73, of Catlettsburg, passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center with his loving family at his side.
Robert was born in Catlettsburg, Ky., on May 4, 1934, to Charles and Nerva Boyd-Cumpston.
Mr. Cumpston was the owner of the Catlettsburg Giovanni’s and retired from the Ironton Machine Shop, where he worked as a machinist and was head foreman for many years. He was a member of Catlettsburg Elks and bowled on a league at Blue Ribbon Lanes. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Elizabeth K. Rusk-Cumpston; a son, Michael J.C. Cumpston (Joyce); two daughters, Dawna Lauhon (Micah) and Dawn Deerfield (Brian), all of Catlettsburg; three grandchildren, Tosha Lee, Austin Deerfield and Kirstie Boyd, all of Catlettsburg; his mother, Nerva Boyd-Cumpston of Catlettsburg; a brother, Jimmy Cumpston of Ashland; and four sisters, Leona Gard and Sue Watson, both of Catlettsburg, Stella Canifax of Ashland and Mary Cole of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Cumpston, and two sisters, Joann Sugart and Donna Cumpston.
Funeral services to honor his life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Ratliff Family Funeral Home, 1220 Greenup Ave., Ashland, Ky., with entombment in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Ironton VFW Post 8850.
Friends may call on the Cumpston family from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2007, at the funeral home.
Rusty West, Scott Bybee, Greg Lee, Jay Boyd, Brian Higginbotham and Micah Lauhon will serve as pallbearers.
Linda Russell (1948-2007)
Linda Marie Bollmeyer Russell, 59, of Catlettsburg, departed this life on Wednesday afternoon Sept. 19, 2007.
Linda was born Aug. 8, 1948, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Lewis and Virginia Stevens Bollmeyer.
She was a member of Mavity Baptist Church in Catlettsburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Cole.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Russell of Catlettsburg; two sons, Brian (Melissa) Russell of Ladysmith, Va., and Terry (Michelle) Russell of Catlettsburg; a daughter, Lisa (William) Newell of Summit; a brother, James Bollmeyer of Warrensburg, Mo.; a sister, Mona Roach of Warrensburg; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Chris Russell, minister.
Burial will be in Russell Family Cemetery in Magoffin County.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and an hour before services Sunday at the funeral home.

Norma M. Young (1929-2007)
Norma M. Young, 77, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Sept. 18, 2007, in Dade City.
She was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Worthington, Ky. She is the daughter of the late Walker and Essie (Gue) Akers and came to Zephyrhills in 1997 from Lloyd, Ky.
Mrs. Young was a selector for a glass factory and attended Crystal Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and John Barney of Zephyrhills, with whom she made her home; two grandsons, Norman and Merie Barney of Bartow, Fla., and Christopher and Pearl Barney of Zephyrhills; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Willow, Elijah, Belle and Sammy, all of Florida; a sister, Gladys Lacks of Worthington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Young Sr.; and three sisters, Lillian Akers, Henrietta Akers and Thelma Nippert.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, by Elder James Barney at James A. Music Funeral Home, 224 Main St., Greenup.
Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from after noon Monday at the funeral home.

Lucy Lee Renegar Mason
Mrs. Lucy Lee Renegar Mason of Russell, Ky., died Sept. 18, 2007.
She is survived by her husband, Everett James Mason Jr. of Ashland, Ky.; sons Everett James Mason III (Sheree), Timothy Lee Mason (Stephanie) and David York Mason (Michelle); grandchildren Brandon Lee Mason, Patrick James Mason, Kelsey Leigh Mason, Jessica Ann Mason and Chase Trae Mason; sister Nancy Alice Wiggins; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
For the past three years, Mrs. Mason had been a resident of Fayetteville, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mark Westmoreland.

Gordon Warren Shepard (1921-2007)
Gordon Warren Shepard, 86, of Venice, Fla., died Sept. 18, 2007.
He was born in Yawkey, W.Va., on May 14, 1921.
He was the manager for Bridgestone Tire Co. in Kentucky before he retired. Mr. Shepard was a Beni Kedem Shriner, a member of Scottish Rite and a 32nd degree Mason in Charleston. He was a Kentucky colonel.
Surviving family members include his wife of 60 years, Lillian, of Venice; a son, Phillip W. Shepard (Christina) of Elmira, Ore.; a daughter, Leigh Calitri (Robert) of Ashland, Ky.; and sisters Virginia Roth and Jeanette Stull, both of West End, N.C., Rita Baroco of Pensacola, Fla., and Betty Shepard of St. Albans, W.Va.
A memorial service will be at a later date in West Virginia.
