Betty Jean Brown - 1931-2007

Betty Jean Adkins Brown, 75, of Ashland, died Thursday afternoon at her home following an extended illness.

Betty was born Oct. 15, 1931, at Boyd County, a daughter of the late Everett and Laura Scott Adkins. She was a member of the Straight Creek Nazarene Church, a former member of the Boyd County Republican Women’s Club and a 51-year precinct worker.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George Lawrence Brown Sr. in 1988.

Surviving include two sons, George L. “Sonny” Brown Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Ashland, and Jonathan D. Brown and wife, Rebecca, of Wurtland; three daughters, Cherri and husband, Michael Vint, of Ashland, Linda D. and husband, Richard Hatchel, of North Carolina, and Brenda G. and husband, Ralph Binkley, of Grove City, Ohio; two brothers, Douglas K. Adkins and wife, Esther, of Grayson, and Donald E. Adkins of Ashland; two sisters, Patricia A. Holbrook of Columbus, Ohio, and Dottie and husband, Jess Horner, of South Webster, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m Sunday at the Straight Creek Nazarene Church by pastor Gary Salyers. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery at Hunnewell.

Arnold Eugene Renfroe - 1935-2007

Arnold Eugene Renfroe, 72, of Westwood, husband of Margaret Renfroe, went to be with his Lord Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at Middletown, Ohio.

Arnold was born June 8, 1935, in Boyd County, a son of the late Jesse and Flossie Reffitt Renfroe.

He was a retired cake decorator with Dave’s Bakery and Daniels Bakery, was a member of Kenova American Legion Post 93 and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Smith and Ruth Humphrey.
