Magdalene Thompson Spears - 1910-2006
Magdalene Thompson Spears, 96, of Ashland, died Sunday morning in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center following a short illness.
She was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Marion T. and Elizabeth Bishop Carter.
Magdalene was a member of 13th Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Delbert Thompson; her second husband, Benjamin Spears; a son, John David Thompson; three brothers, Hayes, O.T. and Ivan Carter; and two sisters, Emma McCoy and Mary Gold Carter.
Survivors include two sons, Ted R. Thompson and wife Lois of Flatwoods, Ky., and Roy C. Thompson and wife Ellen of Maryville, Tenn.; a sister, Inez Faulkner ofAshland; five grandchildren, Rob Thompson of Russell, Ky., Diana Faust of Plano, Texas, Marilyn Jan Withrow of Timberlake, N.C., Richard Curtis Thompson of Lewisville, Texas, and David Paul Thompson of Riley, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Scott Merrett, Jonathan David Thompson, Stephen Paul Thompson, Katherine Ann Thompson and Maria Thompson; and a great-great granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Merrett.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday by Brother Bill Parker at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donald Cantrell - 1959-2006
Donald R. Cantrell of 32nd Street, Ashland, passed away suddenly on Friday evening, Dec. 22, 2006, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Cantrell was just 47 years of age, born on May 10, 1959, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Charles E. and Mary Lena Cox Cantrell.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Bishop and Joyce Kiser.
He was an employee of the Ashland Marathon Marine Division for the past seven years on the river tow Kyova. Don served his country and the commonwealth honorably for 22 years in the Kentucky National Guard 201st Engineering Batallion Company A and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Left behind is his adoring wife of 22 years, Clara Jean Adkins Cantrell. Their home was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Joyce Renee Cantrell and her fiance, Sam Caudill, and Kayla Jean Cantrell and Jaime Dawn Cantrell, all of Ashland. Also surviving are four brothers, Tim Cantrell of Gallipolis, Ohio, Jim Cantrell of Grayson, Ky., Charles Raymond Cantrell of Kenova, W.Va., and Robert Cantrell of Wurtland, Ky.; three sisters, Kaye Spurlock, Donna Sue Winchell and Barbara Gail West, all of Catlettsburg; a precious grandson, Isaiah Caudill; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hershel and Kathleen Stone; his brother-in-law, Joe Stone of Ashland; and two sisters-in-law, Joetta Cyrus and Kathy Blair, both of Catlettsburg.
A funeral service for Donald Cantrell will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor Larry Joe Madden. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Cemetery in Ashland.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Infant Morgan Nicole Hannah
Morgan Nicole Hannah, 23 months old, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in Cincinnati Children Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was born Jan. 15, 2005, in Cincinnati, a daughter of James D. Hannah and Stephanie Dietrich Hannah of Greenup, Ky.
Also surviving are a twin sister, Kaitlyn Hannah at home; grandparents James Hannah and Elaine Hannah of Greenup and Steve Dietrich and Helen Dietrich of Sciotoville, Ohio; and great-grandmothers Marguerite Hunt of Greenup and Dixie Dixon of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 26, 2006, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., by the Rev. Kenny Fox. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery on Ky. 1 in South Shore.

Margie Ann Litteral - 1944-2006
Margie Ann Litteral, 62, of Alcorn Road, Greenup, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006.
Mrs. Litteral was born June 28, 1944, in Wurtland, Ky., a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Mae Eachus Daniels.
She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Clarissa Litteral.
She is survived by her husband, Kermit J. Litteral; two sons, Kermit E. (Sabrina) Litteral and Aaron Litteral, both of Greenup; a daughter, Robin (Richard) Carpenter of Greenup; five sisters, Lula Turley, Wilhelmina “Buckie” Kirk and Emma Jean Hall, all of Wurtland, Esther Lee Merchant of Louisville, Ky., and Etta Sue Corbin of Ashland, Ky.; and six grandchildren, Jesse Carpenter, Samantha Carpenter, Jarrod Litteral, Emily Litteral, Nathan Carpenter and Rachel Litteral.
Margie loved God, her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She taught us to always love one another and that family and laughter are important. She taught us to be kind, generous and to help those in need. During her richly blessed life, she never turned anyone away from her door. She sheltered, fed and nurtured many heavy-laden young people. Margie cared little for Earthly possessions. She knew her rewards awaited her when our Lord called her home.
Margie was a talented artist who humbly accepted praise for her art. Her artwork was shared among family, friends, strangers and charitable works. She had a wonderful gift for listening and gentle guidance. She rejoiced in laughter. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She left this world unafraid and knowing she earned her peace in heaven with our Lord.
Graveside funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Kermit Litteral Family Cemetery on Alcorn Road in Greenup by the Rev. Glenn Newsome.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup.

Evelyn Moore, 85, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Moore was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Freelin and Onolda Shannon Blackburn.
She was a true homemaker and attended Oak Street Freewill Baptist Church in Flatwoods.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell B. Moore; a son, Jerry Moore; and a sister, Bernice Martin.
Mrs. Moore is survived by a son, Larry G. (Paula) Moore of Argillite, Ky.; a daughter, Patricia (Dale) Hensley of Ashland; grandchildren Jeff (Debbie) Hensley, Chris (Terri) Hensley, Stephen (Kim) Moore and Shawn (Joyce) Moore; and great-grandchildren Kelsey Hensley, Kierstin Hensley, Casey Hensley, Heath Hensley, Laurel Hensley, Tyler Moore, Emilie Moore and Kenzy Moore.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Chaplain Philip Stephens will officiate the service.
Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

J. Larry See, 56, of Louisa, Ky., passed away Friday at his residence.
Larry was born March 18, 1950, in Louisa, the son of Amos and Betty Jo Reed See.
He was co-owner of Young Funeral Home Inc. in Louisa, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of First Baptist Church in Louisa.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Lynn Franz See of Louisa; a son, James Matthew (Ashley) See of Louisa; and his parents, Amos and Betty Jo See of Louisa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.

Clarence Elwood “Woody” Whitt, 62, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Ky.
He was born April 20, 1944, in Elliott County, Ky., the son of the late Oathie and Dove Robinson Whitt. He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Whitt, and a sister, Julie Smith.
He was a retired carpenter, member of Carpenters Local 472 of Ashland and a member of Mayhew Flats Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Helton Whitt; three daughters, Michelle and husband Barry Hall of Morehead, Melissa and husband Robert Halbert of Hillsboro and Patricia and husband Donnie Trusty of Grayson; a son, Cody and wife Bridgette Whitt of Morehead; five grandchildren, Dustin Halbert and Tyler, Michael, Denny and Jamie Howard; and eight brothers and sisters, Mary Mauk and Nannie Myrtle Salyers, both of Grayson, Dixie Elam and Katherine Waddell, both of Sandy Hook, Vinson Whitt of Fairborn, Ohio, Don Whitt of Sandy Hook, Jim Whitt of Olive Hill and Sue Johnson of Grayson.

Michael E. Graham
Michael E. Graham, 53, of Greenville, Fla., formerly of Lexington, Ky., passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
He was born in Norton, Va., to Laura Roberts of Lexington and the late Edwin Hugh Graham. Mr. Graham graduated from the University of Kentucky. He enjoyed a successful career as a professional geologist and a had longstanding membership in the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Mr. Graham was owner and vice president of the Smith Management Group in Lexington. He was also owner and operator, with wife Brenda S. Graham, of the Grace Manor Bed & Breakfast in Greenville. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a brother, Mark Graham and Terry Harmon of Lexington; and a daughter, Laura Sims Graham.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 27 at Oxmoor Country Club in Louisville. A memorial service will be at noon Dec. 30 at Greenville United Methodist Church.
