Marjorie Rice Williams - 1925-2014

FLATWOODS — Marjorie “Margie” Rice Williams, 88, of Flatwoods, died Jan. 4, 2014, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She went to be with the Lord in the presence of 21 members of her family, which was a testament to the love she generated.

She was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Nippa, to William M. and Clara Rice, and was a graduate of Oil Springs High School in Kentucky. During World War II, she spent summers between school years at ages 16 and 17 working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio, and the DuPont Munitions Plant in Charleston, Ind.

After the war, she married her sweetheart, Douglas, who had returned from service overseas, moved to Ashland then to Flatwoods where she lived the remainder of her life as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was the heart of the family, always sweet and caring, giving and generous, and well thought of by everyone she met. She loved nothing more than a gathering of her large extended family.

She also was an avid fan of all kinds of music, especially country gospel. She was a member of Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods and loved attending services when she was able.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Douglas; daughters Connie (Bud) Williams of Russell, Beverly (Larry) Conner of Flatwoods and Teresa Williams of Flatwoods; a son, Dwight (Becky) Williams of Hurricane, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Floress Ann Collins of Huntington, W.Va.; brothers Edsel (Bobbie) Rice of Flatwoods and Harold Rice of Etowah, N.C.; an aunt, Geneva Rice of Zeeland, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her very much.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alois Rice and Ronald Rice.

The family gives a special thanks to Rozella Pate for her help during this time.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. Don Young officiating and the Rev. Mark Wilson assisting. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Advance Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Condolences may be sent to carmanfuneral.com.
