James Edward Greenslate Jr., 68, of Ashland, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born July 21, 1945, in South Shore, a son of the late James Edward Greenslate Sr. and Margaret Sparks Greenslate.
Jim was a member of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church in Ashland. He graduated from Greenup County High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was an avid musician who played saxophone in many local bands. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather and loved his dog, Molly. Jim retired after many years of service from AK Steel and was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves.
Survivors include two sons, James Edward Greenslate III, and his wife, Dee, of Clearwater, Fla., and Micah Greenslate of Ashland; a daughter, Sarah Trachsel of San Diego, Calif.; his fianceé, Marilyn Holmes of Ironton; stepmother Connie May Greenslate of Catlettsburg; two sisters, Nancy Watson and husband Mark of Catlettsburg and Jama Robinson and husband Paul of Cincinnati; grandchildren Justin Michael Greenslate, Korey Phelan, Lauren Riley Trachsel and Brendan Christopher Trachsel. Additional survivors include a host of loving extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Thirteenth Street Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment will follow in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
