They made a promise to each other that whoever got there first would meet the other by the River Jordan. After 68 days they are together again.
Reba Lee Hicks-Callihan, 77, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
She was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Flatwoods, to the late Estil Raymond and Myrtle Amis-Hicks. Reba was a retiree with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, where she worked as a social worker in Greenup County and Boyd County. She was a longtime member of the Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods and she was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Mistletoe 144, as well as being very active in various El Hasa Shrine units with her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Callihan, who passed away on Feb. 9.
Left behind to cherish her memory is a loving and devoted family, including a son, Jeffrey Dale Callihan and Jane of Russell; a daughter, Tina Gayle Tackett and Rick of Flatwoods; three grandchildren, Anthony (Danielle) Tackett of Independence, Mo., JD Callihan (Ashlee Howell) of Flatwoods and Hannah (Anthony) Carver of Flatwoods; three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Levi Carver and Jaden Howell; two stepgrandchildren, Chris Tackett and Gary Tackett; and one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Louise Hicks of Flatwoods.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to a special brother and sister-in-law, Don and Louise Hicks, and a special niece, Toni Hicks, for all of their love and support as well as a thank you to caregivers, Joyce Gray, Carol Lemmings, Vickie Daniels, Chris Markin, Jenny Imes, Kayla Carter and Peggy Douglas-Brown.
The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, April 21, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service hour today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory should be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
