Betty Rowe Hughes 1929-2013

ASHLAND — Betty Hughes, 84, of Westwood, died Friday morning in Oakmont Manor Health Care Facility in Flatwoods, following an extended illness.  

She was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Edgel and Mirandy Preston Rowe.

She was a member of the Westwood United Baptist Church.  

Betty was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, James Henry Hughes; two sons, James Michael and Gary Hughes; son-in-law, Larry Carroll; and a grandson, Aaron Hatfield.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Carroll of Flatwoods and Judith G. Hatfield and husband Rodney of Flatwoods; three brothers, Arby Rowe and wife Lilly of Greenup, Dave Rowe (deceased wife, Barbara) of Westwood and Paul Rowe and wife Cinda of Ironville; a sister, Helen Imogene Wright and husband Fred of Catlettsburg; three grandchildren, Brigette and husband Danny Devaney, Michael Hughes and Gary and wife Breanna Hatfield; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Stills and Airen Hatfield; and a great friend she considered as her daughter, Marie Hatfield.

Betty was also privileged to have been cared for by the staff of Oakmont Manor, she considered all of them her family.  

The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
