Alva A. Ashley Jr., 90, of Ashland, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born March 30, 1923, in Petros, Tenn., the son of the late Alva A. Ashley Sr. and Mallie Armes Ashley. He was the owner of Ashley Furniture Store and retired from C&O Railroad. He was a member of the Poage Masonic Lodge 325 F&AM, the El Hasa Shrine and a WWII Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Bentley Ashley. Survivors include a daughter, Sara Wilcox of Palm City Fla.; a sister, Betty Uehline of Tucson, Mich.; two grandchildren, Eric Snell and Amy (Tony) Auffant; three great-grandchildren, Nora Grace Auffant, Sara Elizabeth Auffant and Emily Marie Auffant.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.17, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Tim Jayne. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park with a military service conducted by the Kenova American Legion Post 93.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Monday by the Poage Masonic Lodge 325 F&AM.
