James Bryan Ford - 1952-2008
James Bryan Ford, known to his family as “Jamie” and his friends as “Bryan,” 56, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in UK Chandler Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1952, in Baytown, Texas, to William Leonard Ford (deceased) and Ola M. Jackson Ford Wood. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, going on to earn a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Stephen F. Austin University in 1978 and a master’s degree in library science from Texas Woman’s University in 1995. On June 28, 2001, he received a liver and kidney transplant necessitated by polycystic kidney disease.
Bryan was a keen student of history, an avid reader, and had a passion for gardening. He loved making pies, baking bread, and cooking for his friends and family.
He is survived by his mother, Ola Wood of Baytown; his longtime friend, Debora L. Cosper and her nephew, Richard W. Cosper (who he helped raise), both of Ashland, Magnolia Blossom Bell “Maggie” and Miss Daisy (his and Debbie’s Manchester terriers).
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at the Boyd County Public Library, 1740 Central Ave., Ashland.
He has requested to be cremated and used as fertilizer in his beloved garden. For more information, contact family friend, Sharon Wolf, after 3 p.m. at (606) 325-1195.

Willie Collins - 1932-2008
Willie Collins, 76, of South Shore, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1932, in Glenn Allen, W.Va., a son of the late Tolbart Collins and Ella Hatfield Collins.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, a lover of blue grass music and loved to play blue grass music and was retired from CSX Railroad after 38 years.
Surviving are two sons and wives, Billy Ray (Sally) Collins of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Timothy Howard (Jennifer) Collins of South Shore; three daughters and husbands, Mary Alice (Richard) Hughes of Lucasville, Ohio, Crystal Dawn (Junior) Jenkins of Wurtland, Ky., and Diana (Bryan) Simpson of South Shore; one sister, Effie Adkins of Portsmouth; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Preceding him in death are one daughter, Marie Jeanette Collins; and five sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Gary Vaughn, minister officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight and from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Friday.
Ione Hicks “Tootie” Morefield - 1908-2008
Ione Hicks “Tootie” Morefield, age 100, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mrs. Morefield was born June 12, 1908, in Craigsville, Va., a daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Lucy Kyle Hicks. In addition, she was preceded in death by husbands, Bernard Richard Gorman and Charles E. Morefield; six brothers and two sisters.
She worked for many years as a registered nurse in the Clifton Forge, Va., area, was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and was a Kentucky colonel twice.
Surviving are three sons, Richard A. (Brenda) Gorman of Los Alamatos, Calif., William H. (Frankie) Gorman of Lynchburg, Va., and Raymond L. Gorman of Harrisburg, Ill.; a daughter, Barbara Dee (Mark) Smith of Covington, Va.; a former daughter-in-law, Drema (Marvin) Gardner of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Rosalind Pierce of Staunton, Va.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Calvary Episcopal Church by the Rev. Mann S. Valentine IV. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Doris Buffat Galloway - 1928-2008
Doris Buffat Galloway, age 80, of Bellefonte, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at her residence.
She was born July 7, 1928, in Louisville, Ky., a daughter of the late Granville H. and Eva E. Carter Buffat.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Allen R. Galloway, who died in 2005; and two daughters, Beverly Galloway and Lynn A. Galloway.
She taught at Raceland and Louisville, Ky. She was a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ, a charter member and past president of Southern Hills Garden Club, Master Flower Show Judge, life member of the Garden Club of Kentucky and a life member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs.
Surviving are two daughters, Gayle A. Galloway of Chicago, Ill., and Joyce Galloway Thompson and husband Terry of Ashland; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Danielle Thompson, Terry Matthew Allen Thompson and Rebecca Lynn Gayle Thompson.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by minister John M. Brown. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

William F. Wells Jr. - 1923-2008
William F. Wells Jr., age 85, of Russell, Ky., passed Dec. 3, 2008, after a brief illness.
He was born March 12, 1923, in Russell, a son of Lula Flannery Wells of Flatwoods, Ky., and the late William F. Wells.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen Ward Wells; a brother, Woodrow Wells; and a sister, Pauline Ward.
He was a conductor with C&O Railroad, a member of Kenwood Baptist Church and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, and an Army and Navy veteran of WWII.
Additional survivors include sons, Dennis (Kathy) Wells of Pelham, Ala., Terry (Linda) Wells of Jacksonville, Fla., and Patrick (Linda) Wells of Russell; a daughter, Nancy (Greg) Vanderhoof of Raceland, Ky.; sisters-in-law, Ruby Bevins and Ruth Jackson, both of Shelbiana, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Marvin Boggs. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Norma Norene Roadcup Thompson, 79, of Russell, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Betty Hall - 1928-2008
Betty L. Horsley Hall, 80, of South Shore, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Lewis County.
Her husband, Roland G. Hall, died in 1989.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at South Shore First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Homer Edwards
Homer Edwards, 86 of Flatwoods, died Wednesday in Boyd County Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Wanda Conley
Wanda Conley, 62, of Oil Springs, died Tuesday at her residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pigeon Enterprise Baptist Church in Oil Springs. Burial will be in Conley Cemetery in Oil Springs.

Evelyn Hensley
Evelyn Hensley, 69, of Paintsville, died Tuesday at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Hensley.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Staffordsville Church Cemetery.

Rudolph Crum - 1915-2008
Rudolph Crum, 93, of Stambaugh, died Tuesday in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
He was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Johnson County.
His wife, Murvel Stambaugh Crum, died in 1989.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Stambaugh Family Cemetery in Stambaugh.

Rebalene “Bobbie” McClurg - 1973-2008
Rebalene Suzanne “Bobbie” McClurg, 34, of Vanceburg, died Tuesday at her residence.
She was born Dec. 21, 1973, in Scioto County, Ohio.
Her husband, William R. McClurg, survives.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Camp Dix. Burial will be at a later date.

Susan Howard
Susan Howard, 41, of Salyersville, died Wednesday.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Magoffin County Funeral Home in Salyersville.

Jane Adams
Jane K. Adams, 69, of Pikeville, died Tuesday in University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Her husband, Lones Adams, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Blessed Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Justiceville. Burial will be in Annie E. Young Cemetery in Pikeville.
Friends may call anytime today at the church with a service at 7 p.m.

Ruby Hall - 1924-2008
Ruby Hall, 84, of Ironton, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Floyd County, Ky.
Her husband, James F. Hall, died in 1976.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.
