Vivian McCall - 1921-2008
Vivian R. McCall, 87, of Ashland died Friday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born April 27, 1921, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Troy and Nora Tolle Cassell. She was the wife of Walter K. McCall, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the Unity Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Riddle in 1983.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin R. and Wanda Riddle of Ashland; four stepsons, Donald McCall of Dallas, Texas, Richard McCall of Lexington, Douglas McCall of Ashland and Raymond McCall of Denver, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Phil Richardson of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Mary McCall of London, England; four grandchildren, Laura Callaway, Matthew Riddle, Suzanne Stinebring and Amy Wessell; four stepgrandchildren, Heather Kitchen, Shane McCall, Kara Watson and Andy McCall; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Stinebring, Morgan Stinebring, Kyle Wessel, Noah Wessel and Hayden Wessel; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland, with Dr. Floyd Paris and the Rev. Harold Cathey officiating. Entombment will be in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret P. Harper - 1929-2008
Margaret Prince Harper, 79, of Catlettsburg, went home to be with her Savior following her passing Friday morning, November 28, 2008, from her home.
Mrs. Harper was the daughter of the late John and Tennessee Runyon Prince, born May 23, 1929, at Rita, W.Va. Her husband, Leo Duane Harper, preceded her in 1980. At the age of 18 Margaret started her career as an employee of the Catlettsburg Ceredo and Kenova Water Company, which later became the Ashland Utilities Company, from which she retired. She was a faithful member of Sandy City Freewill Baptist Church and the Prime Timers Club.
Surviving is a loving family including a daughter, Linda Rutherford, her husband William, of Versailles; three grandchildren, Forrest Rutherford, Kristin Harper, Elliott Harper; and one precious great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death is a daughter, Glenna Harper; a son, Michael Harper; two brothers, Charles Prince, James Prince; and a sister, Laura Little.
Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Sandy City Freewill Baptist Church, 988 Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Bobby Chaffins will offer a message of comfort and reassurance. Final rest to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova, W.Va.
Visitation for family and friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on today at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.
Mary McKenzie - 1944-2008
Mary Elizabeth McKenzie, 64, of Catlettsburg, formerly of Worthington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mary was born on Nov. 7, 1944, in Greenup, a daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Pruitt Boyles. She was a member of the West Catlettsburg Methodist church and was a former bookkeeper for Stars Fashion World, Fiesta Bravo and Ross Brothers Construction.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. “Butch” McKenzie; one sister, Helen Louise Craft; and three brothers, James Boyles, Glen Boyles and Charles Boyles.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Kellie and Sean Wallace of Catlettsburg; one granddaughter, Addison Kenzie Wallace of Catlettsburg; one sister, Goldie Mae Campbell of Raceland; and two brothers, Ernest Lee (Linda) Boyles of Flatwoods and Alvin Lester Boyles of Wurtland.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Chuck Allen. Entombment will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Flatwoods.

Billy Hensley - 1931-2008
Russell “Billy” C. Hensley, 77, of Argillite died Thursday in Argillite. He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Argillite, the son of the late Lora Salyers Hensley and Ernest Hensley. He was the husband of Beulah Faye Coffee Hensley, who survives. He was a laborer for Local 1445 of Catlettsburg and was a member of Danleyton Missionary Baptist church. He was a 32 Degree Master Mason at Smith Lodge 775 F&AM.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Franz.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Timothy Russell Hensley of Argillite; and two daughters, Kimberly Hutchinson of Danleyton and Rosetta Hall of Winchester.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Dr. Tom Melvin and Jimmy Thorpe officiating. Burial will be in Whitt Cemetery in Argillite.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ruthlene Lawson - 1922-2008
Ruthlene Estep Lawson, 86, of Raceland died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born July 16, 1922, the daughter of the late James C. and Bertha Vanate Estep. She was the wife of the late Herbert Lawson. She was a homemaker and of the Apostolic faith.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Kathlene Keeton.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Russell) Vallance of Raceland; one sister, Sally Farburn of Rome, Ohio; one brother, Bill Estep of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, James Russell Vallance of Worthington and Sally Jo Moore of Flatwoods; six great-grandchildren, Robert Kouns, Samatha Kouns, Aaron Vallance, all of Ashland, Cody French and Kaitlyn Moore of Flatwoods and Jayme Vallance of Worthington; three great-great-grandchildren, Blake Vallance of Ashland, Shyanna and Samara Kouns of Ashland.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will be in Rude Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Robyn Lynn White - 1961-2008
Robyn Lynn White, 47, of Grayson, died Friday evening, Nov. 28, 2008, at her residence. She was born Sep. 22, 1961, in Maryland, a daughter of the late Elbert Eugene and Elizabeth Ramsdell Biddle.
She was employed with G.C. Services in Huntington, W.Va., and was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Olive Hill.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Smith; one brother, David Patty; and one sister, Cindy Fosson.
She is survived by her husband George White; three sons, Nathan Biddle of Grayson, Charles Edward Smith of Grayson, Christopher Shawn Smith of Lexington; one brother, Michael Patty of Edgewater, Md.; four sisters, Shari Terhune of Frankfort, Linda Rodano, of Edgewater, Betty Jane Hayden of Eastern Shore, Md., and Virginia “Ginger” Patty of Edgewater; and one grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sparks Funeral Home, by President Russell F. Patterson. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Robert Gumm - 1989-2008
Robert Brandon Gumm, 19, of Elkton passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va. He was born Jan. 30, 1989, in Ashland, the son of Robert and Donna Gumm Wyant. He attended Spotswood High School, where he enjoyed playing football and spending time with his friends. He worked for E.A. Breeden as a line operator at the Coors Brewing Company in Elkton.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his live-in girlfriend, Meghann Meadows; one brother, Billy Lucas of Elkton; one sister, Amanda Boatright of Elkton; and his maternal grandmother, Connie Lucas
He was preceded in death by one brother, Brian Gumm; paternal grandparents, Thelma and Chester Gumm and his maternal grandfather, Donald Lucas.
The family will receive friends at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton today from 6 to 8 p.m. Following visitation, his body will be taken to the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Damron Branch Cemetery in Grayson.

James Fultz Sr. - 1928-2008
James R. Fultz Sr., 80, of Cartersville, Ga., formerly of Beetle, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 28, at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga. he was born July 16, 1928, in Beetle, a son of the late Opal and Ada Bryant Fultz. He was retired from Dow Chemical.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Fultz, in 2007.
Survivors include two sons, James R. “Jim” Fultz Jr. of Cartersville and Greg Fultz of Ottawa, Ill.; two sisters, Lois McDavid of Beetle and Bertha “B.J.” McDavid of Grayson; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Richard Napier and J.D. Riggs. Burial will be in Fultz Cemetery in Beetle.

Joanna McKnight
On November 27, 2008, our beloved mother, Joanna McKnight, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She went home to be with her son, Randy; and her husband, Arthur “Mouse” McKnight Jr. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her son and husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva Rowe; and a brother, Gene Rowe. She was a member of the ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 8850 and was retired from the Coal Grove Monitor School and CVS in Ashland.
Survivors include two daguthers and sons-in-law, Vickie and Larry McDaniel of Coal Grove; Sandy and Mike Vallance of Raceland; two sons and daugthers-in-law, Rick and Linda McKnight of Ironton and Chuck and Kim McKnight of Coal Grove; five grandsons, Shawn (Audra) McDaniel of Coal Grove; J.D. (Kelli) McDaniel of Ironton, A.J. and Cory McKnight of Ironton and Caleb McKnight of Coal Grove; two granddaughters, Brittney and Randi Vallance of Raceland; three great-grandchildren, Raegan, Connor and Brice McDaniel.
A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Dorthey McCallister - 1935-2008
Dorthey McCallister, 73, of Ashland, formerly of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 29, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born March 1, 1935, in Kanawha County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Aubrey and Virginia Stutler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ceredo, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry McCallister; and sister, Freda Curry. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Musgrave (Dan) of Cheshire, Ohio; one son, Gary McCallister (Jeannie) of Ashland, KY; one sister, Louise Chapman; one brother, Larry Stutler; five grandchildren, Jonathan McCallister, Samantha McCallister, Jennifer Pappas, Danielle Jones, and Jason Greene; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Jones.
Funeral will be at noon Monday, Dec.1, 2008, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel in Barboursville, by the Rev. Bob Ray. Burial will in Forest Memorial Park in Milton.

Evelyn Ruth Swimm, 51, of Vanceburg ddied Friday at he Golden Living Center.
She was born Feb. 11, 1957, in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Nolen Cemetery in Laurel.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
David Hogsten Jr.
David Harwood “Boompa” Hogsten Jr., 81, of Franklin Furnace died Monday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Ironton.
His wife, Joanna Bazell Hogsten, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery, Section 7, in Ironton.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to one’s favorite charity.

Iona Sturgill, 100, of Ironton died Thursday at a local nursing home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1907, in Oldtown.
