Margaret Catherine Eskew - 1923–2008
Margaret C. Eskew, 84, of Westwood, went home to be with the Lord with her family by her side, Thursday morning, Nov. 27, 2008, at Kings Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.
Margaret was born Dec. 11, 1923 at Boyd County, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Sarah Caudill Blair. She was faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship with her church friends. Margaret always loved the time with her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1995 after 54 years of marriage to her husband, Ira Corporal Eskew, whom she married May 2, 1942. She was also preceded by a son, the Rev. Donald Ira Eskew in 1996, two half brothers, Bill and Herschel Blair, and two half sisters, Myrtle Hale and Mildred Crace.
Surviving include: one son, Frank Eskew and wife Garnet; two daughters, Nancy and husband Jack Perkins, and Debbie and husband Will Cannoy, all of Westwood; a brother, Homer Blair and wife Erline of Ashland; three sisters, Virginia Heinz of Alabama, Betty Gallaher of Vanceburg, and Dorothy and husband Ben Jones of Medway, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kim (Billy) Evans, Frankie (Pam) Eskew, Kelly (Chris) Queen, Grant (Michelle) Cannoy, Allen (Telisa) Perkins, and Ann (Sean) Hutchison; 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Rachel Evans, Jared and Shelby Eskew, Courtnet, Kristen-Brooke, and Kendall Queen, Caleb and Micah Cannoy, Connor and Katherine (Katie) Hutchison, Alexis Perkins, and another due in the summer.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Grant Cannoy and the Rev. Michael Rice at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park. Jacqueline West - 1930-2008
Jacqueline West, 78, of Ashland, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at the residence of her daughter, who cared for her.
She was born May 10, 1930, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Otis and Emma Smith Ball. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and former member of the Eastern Star and TOPS Club Westwood 254.
In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd West.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose Grossl and her husband, Tony, Bambi Webb and her husband, Randy, and Carol Alley and her husband, John, all of Ashland; two sons, Larry West and his wife Rose and Rick West, all of Nicholasville; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home by pastor Joed Rice. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Lester Wright - 1953-2008
Lester E. Wright, 55, of Catlettsburg, passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 26, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mr. Wright was the son of Geneva Sparks Wright Adams of Wurtland, Ky., and the late Roy L. Wright, born July 31, 1953, in Greenup, Ky. He was a route contractor for 20 years with the Daily Independent, and moderator of Boyd Co Free Cycle & I Boats.com. Lester loved the outdoors, including fishing, boating and camping, but his greatest love was the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Sadly left behind is his wife of 36 years, Suzette Hall Wright; three daughters, Tammy Opell and her husband, Rodney of Catlettsburg, Nancy Godbey and her husband, Terry, and Leslie Wright and her companion, John Whitaker, all of Rush; a brother, Leroy Wright and his wife, Teresa of Grayson; seven grandchildren, Rodney Opell, Robyn Opell, Blake Preston, Matthew Preston, John Godbey, Eva Godbey, and Kayla Whitaker; and a nephew, Justin Wright.
A funeral service for Lester Wright will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Ray Sexton will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.

Ruby Kelley - 1922-2008
On this glorious day, Jesus received his good and faithful servant, Ruby Kelley, hand in hand with angels, to rest eternally by his side. For this obedient child of God, rewards in heaven will be of plenty. Let us rejoice, sing hallelujah and celebrate her home coming with the Lord. She will be received highly in favor, her daily life stands in testimony of the Lord’s grace and mercy. She served well her purpose of witness and faith to so many, for so long.
Ruby Fitzpatrick Frazier Kelley, 86, of Catlettsburg passed early Friday morning, Nov. 28, 2008, from her home on Bear Creek. She was the daughter of the late Shelton and Myrtle Singer Fitzpatrick, born March 17, 1922, at Clifford. Her husband of 56 years, Willie E. Kelley, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kelley was a loving homemaker, and a faithful member of Tri-State Full Gospel. She supported the Feeding of the Children Foundation and other various ministries.
Ruby’s home was blessed with six children, Larry B. Frazier, his wife Sue, Ashland, Janice Earl, Cheryl Steele, her husband Mike, Tammy Steele, her husband Tommy, all of Catlettsburg, Nancy Kelley, her companion, George Thomas, Fort Pierce, Fla., Charles Kelley, his wife Amy, Ashland; 14 wonderful grandchildren, and 24 precious great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are four brothers, Alta Fitzpatrick, Ray Fitzpatrick, Tom Fitzpatrick, Ken Fitzpatrick; five sisters, Jessie Davis, June Bartram, Jewell Frazier, Joyce Frazier, Jenny Salyers; three sisters-in-law, Anna Lou Fitzpatrick, Dixie Fitzpatrick, Betty Fitzpatrick; four brothers-in-law, Ked Davis, Jack Bartram, James Frazier, Winfred Salyers; a son-in-law, Carl C. Earl; and a grandson, Chad Michael Steele.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Kelley will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be offered by Rev. Dick Maynard and her son, Pastor Larry Frazier will offer a personal eulogy. Final rest to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Those wishing to call on the Kelley family may do so 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends after the committal service at the home of Janice Earl on Bear Creek in Catlettsburg.
Mary Elizabeth McKenzie - 1944-2008
Mary Elizabeth McKenzie, 64, of Catlettsburg, formerly of Worthington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mary was born Nov. 7, 1944, in Greenup, a daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Pruitt Boyles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. “Butch” McKenzie; a sister, Helen Louise Craft; and three brothers, James, Glen and Charles Boyles.
She was a member of the West Catlettsburg Methodist Church and was a former bookkeeper for Star’s Fashion World, Fiesta Bravo and Ross Brothers Construction.
Surviving are one daughter, Kellie and her husband Sean Wallace of Catlettsburg; one granddaughter, Addison Kenzie Wallace of Catlettsburg; one sister, Goldie Mae Campbell of Raceland; and one brother, Ernest Lee (Linda) Boyles of Wurtland.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Chuck Allen. Entombment will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Tim Carr
Tim Carr, 52, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at St. Joseph East Hospital.
Born in Key West, Fla., he was a son of Sharon Damron of Lexington. Survivors other than his mother are a daughter, Molly Carr, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; a brother, Greg (Katie) Carr, Lexington; stepmother, June Carr, Russell; half sister, Kim (Robert) Harris, Ashland; and grandfather, T.J. Damron, Winter Haven, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Carr; grandmother, Helen Damron.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Contributions are suggested to the Hope Center, 360 West Loudon Ave., Lexington, KY 40508.
Warren Lee “Butch” Baldridge - 1951-2008
Warren Lee “Butch” Baldridge, 57, of Russell, departed to be in the presence of his heavenly father on Nov. 26, 2008.
He was born March 25, 1951, in Ashland, to the late Warren Baldridge and Gloria Baldridge Bowling. Butch is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 37 yers, Beverly Baldridge; proud son, Chris Baldridge of Tallahassee, Fla.; adoring daughter, Jessica Baldridge of Russell; and admiring sister, Kathy (James) Rice of Ashland. Loved and missed by father-in-law Fred Farmer; step-father Homer Bowling; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gene and Helen Bush, Diane and Grant Goodson, Faye and Mike Clevenger, Rita and Greg Wells; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Butch, a 1969 graduate of Raceland High School and a loyal employee of Marathon Ashland Petroleum for 36 years, was an accomplished artist, musician and devout Christian. He began his commitment to the Lord in October 1978. Butch devoted his life to serving and learning about the Lord and was considered to be the spiritual leader of his family. He was a choir leader of the Wurtland Freewill Baptist Church for 15 years and continued his musical ministry as a choir member at Russell First Baptist Church. His music career began in the mid-1960s, where he sang and played bass in a rhythm and blues band, the PRARAS. He shared his love of music with all, especially his son and daughter.
In 1998, Butch, Jessica and Chris formed a country/rock band, Heartstone, sharing their talents and music across the Tri-State. Not only did he have a passion for music, but he also loved fishing, woodworking and sharing his craft at the Pendleton Arts Center.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Russell First Baptist Church. Services will be by the Rev. Ken Gowin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Russell First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raceland-Worthington High School Art and Music Scholarship Fund.

Haley Penix Crum - 1911-2008
Haley Penix Crum, 97, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 2008.
Haley was born Nov. 14, 1911, in Johnson County, the daughter of the late Seymore and Callie Boyd Penix. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Crum, who died on Feb. 12, 1984; a great-grandson, a great-great-granddaughter, three sisters and four brothers.
Haley was a retired United States Postal Worker and merchant. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Delores and O.W. Davis of Louisa; a step-daughter, Oney McKitterick; and a husband, Tom of Jackson, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and LInda Crum of Louisa; a sister, Estelle Pack of Akron, Ohio; and a brother, Herbert Penix of Akron; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa by Brother John Goble and Brother Clyde Waller. Burial will follow in the Crum Family Cemetery on River Road in Clifford. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home.

Johnie Isabelle Charles, 82, of Nippa, died Thursday at Hall Medical Center.
Mrs. Charles was born Feb. 17, 1926, and was the widow of George Charles.

Carolyn Faye Bryant, 49, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Tennessee, died Saturday in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Bryant was born June 3, 1959.

Ada Sloan Caudill - 1913-2008
Ada Sloan Caudill, 95, of Morehead, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Mrs. Caudill was born Aug. 7, 1913, and was the widow of the Rev. Stanley Caudill.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God. Burial will be in Caudill Cemetery.
