David Ross -1953-2008
David Ray Ross, 55, of Westwood, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at his home.
David was born March 23, 1953, in Logan, W.Va., a son of Iula Porter Ross Hartley and the late George Edward Ross. He was the dock manager for Aquila Docks in Kenova, W.Va. He was a member of 2nd Freewill Baptist Church, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge #350 BPOE and the NHRA. He was an avid drag racer and loved to work on cars.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael David Ross and his father-in-law and friend, James L. Stephens.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pamela Stephens Ross of Westwood; his mother, Iula Porter Hartley; his stepmother, Patricia Ross of Sarasota, Fla., who helped raise him; a daughter, Melissa Ann Ross of Ashland; his twin brother, Daniel Edward Ross of Marlow, Okla.; two sisters, Lisabeth Ann Cummings of Chicago, Ill., and Karen Ross Tuley of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Kaya Michael Ross.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Brother Randy Skaggs.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A reception will follow at the home of David and Pam Ross in Westwood.

Rev. Bill Price - 1920-2008
Rev. Bill Price (George William Price), age 88, retired minister from Churches of Christ in Christian Union, passed away Nov. 25, 2008, in St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
He was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Ashland, Ky., the son of John and Viola Price. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of War and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1941 to 1945. He was an evangelist and pastor of several churches for 50 years.
Rev. Price is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen; sons, Bill (Rhonda) and Paul (Lori); daughters, Kathy (Thomas) Buchanan and Shelia Tulloch; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Viola Price; and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, 1346 S. High St., Columbus. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Church, 5600 Karl Road, Columbus. Rev. Kevin Behrer and the Rev. Joe Duvall will officiate.
Internment will follow at Northlawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans.
Rev. Price touched many lives and will be sadly missed.
Gregory G. Brummitt - 1943-2008
Gregory G. Brummitt, 65, of Ashland, departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gregory was born to earthly parents, the late William Paul and Maude Hillman Brummitt on Oct. 12, 1943, in Herald, Va., and born again in Christ on Oct. 12, 1966.
Mr. Brummitt was a graduate of Virginia Tech University where he earned a B.S. degree in metallurgical engineering. He began his career as associate metallurgist in the metallurgical department at Armco Steel Co. in 1966 and after completing 35 years of service in Ashland, retired as senior operating engineer in process technology in the coating area of AK Steel in 2001. While at AK Steel, he was a member of Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and International Galvanizers Association where he received recognition in 1991 and 1992 for his work as co-author of papers on Deportment of Aluminum in Continuous Galvanizing Baths and Analysis and Control of Aluminum in Galvanizing Baths.
Greg joined the U.S. Army Reserve C Company, 478th Engineering Battalion in 1966 and completed his military duty as SPEC 5 in 1972.
Above all, Greg considered his commitment to the Lord of highest priority in life giving his service through Central Baptist Church and later Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church as Sunday School teacher, deacon, choir and Majesty Singers adult ensemble, nursing home and visitation ministries. He was an active member, president and speaker of Ashland Camp of Gideons International. His greatest desire was to be a good witness for the Lord and see people trust in Christ as he had done many years ago. He demonstrated this through his church and through the Gideon ministry in placing New Testaments and Bibles in the hands of fifth grade students, college students and in hospital and hotel rooms.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sue Skeen and Betty Dugan and three brothers, Curtis, Jack and Kenneth Brummitt.
Mr. Brummitt is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Lou Litzenberger Brummitt; daughter and son-in-law, Charis and Johnathan Meade of Dayton, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Jo Brummitt of Franklin, Tenn.; and a special niece, Debbie Crabtree (Calvin) of Clintwood, Va.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Mayes officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg White, Shane Wagner, Jim Bolen, Geoff Riffe, Keith Osborne, and Dr. David Pinkston. Honorary pallbearers will be French Maggard, George Boyd, Mike Williams, Danny Blanton, Joel Hopkins and James Geyer.
The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. till service time on Friday. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Anna Lee (Lyle) Kazee
Born on Sept. 11, 1925, in Big Sandy, W.Va., to parents Anna and Joseph Lyle, Anna went to be with God on Nov. 20, 2008, at the age of 83, in Roseville, Calif.
She was surrounded by her loving family and passed following a short illness.
A native of Ashland, Ky., until 2006, Anna lived with her son, Marvin and his wife, Lynne in Sacramento, Calif. Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas Matthew Kazee and eldest son, Ronnie Lee Clark of McElster, Okla.
She is survived by sons, Marvin Kazee and his wife, Lynne of Sacramento, and Jerry Kazee and his wife, Adra of Roseville; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Norman of McAlester; sister, Myrtle Bennett of Fredonia, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and several nieces.
Anna was an avid seamstress and quilter who loved nothing more than being at her sewing machine putting the pieces of a quilt together. She was also a long time member of the Antioch Christian Church of Greenup, Ky.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Edith E. Ward Howell - 1912-2008
Edith E. Ward Howell, age 96, of Chillicothe, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Nov. 25, 2008, at 3132 Cattail Road, Chillicothe.
She was born March 3, 1912, in Ashland, a daughter of the late John Waller and Leora Kazee Waller.
She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Ed Ward on Dec. 6, 1974 and Henry Garland Howell on April 11, 2003.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Russell and Nora Wells of Louisa, Ky.; brother, Bill Waller of Muskegon, Mich.; sister-in-law, Lucille Waller of Newark, Ohio; sister, Sarah Ingram of South Bend, Ind.; a nephew she helped raise, James Edgar Lyons of Greenup, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Rick Porter. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

James Clay - 1927-2008
James Robert Clay, 81, of Ashland, formerly of Court Street in Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Clay was the son of the late Charles Albert Clay and Beatrice Burchett Clay Keyser, born March 13, 1927, in Wayne County, W.Va. His wife of 28 years, Minnie Marie Clay, preceded him in death. He attended Wayne County schools, retired from Kentucky Electric Steel, and enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving James is a loving family including, five daughters, Deborah Jean Clay of Columbus, Ohio, Rebecca Sue Bucurel and her husband, Larry of Mimis, Fla., Patricia Ann Clay, Della Lee Mills and her husband, Robert, and Marilyn Louise Kirk, all of Ashland; children by marriage, Nancy Potts, Jean Ross, Lonnie Steele, Linda Adkins, and Keith Hall; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Clay and Dorothy Clay, both of Wayne, W.Va.; 20 wonderful grandchildren, and 20 precious great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are four brothers, Thomas Clay, Charles Clay, Edward Clay and Herman Clay; two sisters-in-law, Polly Clay and Ilene Clay; and a son by marriage, Donald Ray Hall.
A funeral service in remembrance of James Clay will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor Philip Knipp. Final rest will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
The Clay family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dorothy S. Griffith - 1918-2008
Dorothy S. Griffith left this life of sorrow and entered into eternal bliss on Nov. 25, 2008.
Dorothy was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Greenup County, Ky. She was 90 years old. She was the daughter of C.M. and Pearl Sparks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon A. Griffith; four brothers, Kenneth Sparks, Ray Sparks, and Owen Sparks and Troy Abbott; one sister, Alice Manley; and one daughter-in-law, Paulette Griffith.
She is survived by two sisters, Ann Fifer and Ruth Lawhorn, both of Ashland; two sons, Jim and Dolores Griffith and Bob Griffith, both of Ashland; and one daughter, Nancy and Chuck DeRenzo of Fort Mills, S.C. There are seven grandchildren, Jennifer Barnes, Jim Griffith, Robert Griffith, Paul Griffith, Kimberly Wallace, Nicholas and Anna DeRenzo; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a very loving person. She touched many lives in her walk in this life. She was loved by all that knew her.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Locklear will conduct the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
William Gehringer - 1930-2008
William Gehringer, age 78, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Nov. 25, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born April 3, 1930, in Ashland, a son of the late John and Hazel Meek Gehringer. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and John Gehringer.
He was a crane operator for AK Steel, of the Baptist faith, and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Helen L. McCormick Gehringer; two sons, Paul and Edie Gehringer of Christiana, Tenn., and Carl and Michele Gehringer of Ashland; two brothers, Bernice Gehringer of Flatwoods and Lewis Gehringer of Ashland; six sisters, Hazel Workman of Flatwoods, Ruth Clarke of Flatwoods, Pearl Parker of Rush, Ky., Clarissa Roark of Flatwoods, Louise Helms of Boyd County, and Mable Jones of Wurtland, Ky.; and seven grandchildren, Brad and Lori Gehringer, Zack and Jenny Gehringer, Elizabeth Gehringer, Rebecca and Kyle Hockley, Megan Gehringer, Josh Gehringer and Brenda Gehringer.
The funeral will be at noon Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Ed Richardson. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery in Fallsburg, Ky. at 2 p.m.

Mary Louise Jones - 1984-2008
Mary Louise Jones, 24, of Rush, Ky., went to be with her heavenly Father Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2008.
She was born May 29, 1984, in Huntington, W.Va., the daughter of Tom Jones of Rush and Candace Dragg Jones of Greenup, Ky. She was a student at Morehead State University and was a member of Sts. John and Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grayson, Ky. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Clyde Jones and her maternal grandmother, Mary (Pye) Dragg.
Her survivors include one brother, Tommy Jones of Rush; one half brother, David Anthony “Tony” (Monica) Jones of Orlando, Fla.; two nephews, Collin and Morgan Jones of Orlando; paternal grandmother, Helen (Davis) Jones of Rush; maternal grandfather, Alvin L. “Bully” Dragg of Gonzales, La.; aunts and uncles, Jan (Doug) Blevins and Betty Ann (Eddie) Kress, both of Ashland, Ky.; and a cousin, Mark Blevins of Ashland.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Jones, Eddie Kress, Doug Blevins, Jay Smith, James Conn, David Jones and Danny Gillum.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Sts. John and Elizabeth Catholic Church by Father Larry Goulding and Gary Arrington.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Ironton.
His wife, Joanna Bazell Hogsten, died in April, 2008.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
There will be no visitation.
