Margaret Jordan (1918-2009)
Margaret Lee Woods Jordan, 90, of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Catlettsburg, now rests in the presence of our Savior after a full and extended life. She passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in Bon Secours — DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk.
Mrs. Jordan was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Fayetteville, W.Va., to the late Charlie and Virginia Kelley Woods. Her husband of 48 years, Franklin Leon Jordan, preceded her in death.
She was a successful, self-employed business owner. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Catlettsburg and First Free Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing and cooking. She loved life to the fullest and put her heart into all she was involved with.
Sadly left behind is a loving family including a son, Fred Jordan and his wife Doris of Santa Ana, Calif.; a daughter, Kaye Howell and her husband Larry of Norfolk; three wonderful grandchildren, Paul Howell of U.S. Navy, Norfolk, Va., Shae Howell of Garden Grove, Calif. and Christopher Jordan of Tustin, Calif.; and two precious great-grandchildren, Nicholas Howell and Briana Howell, all of whom she adored.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be offered by Pastor Mike Smith. Final rest to follow a solemn committal at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Iva Jean Collins (1923-2009)
Iva Jean Collins, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, of Findlay, Ohio, went to be with the Lord at 5:23 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at Birchaven Retirement Village. She was born July 9, 1923, in Catlettsburg to the late John and Lula Rice Hale. She married the love of her life, Carl J. Collins, on Aug. 30, 1948, and they were happily married for 61 years. He survives in Findlay and will miss her dearly.
Also surviving are three children, Rahna (Jim) Grismore of Arlington, Ohio, Jeffrey (Cindy) Collins of Findlay, and Tanya (Brian) Grimm of Ashland; a sister, Coleen Carrico of South Point, Ohio; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sisters, Helena Black and Drema Hale; and two brothers, Homer and Carl Hale.
Iva Jean was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay. She was employed by Clayton Lammers in Ashland, during World War II, and later, in Findlay, she worked at JC Penney. She also managed the Melrose Village Apartments for 10 years.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home in Findlay. Her nephew, the Rev. Rodney Hale of Kenova will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Roy Dunaway (1931-2009)
Roy Eugene “Poppy” Dunaway, 78, of Eastland Drive, Olive Hill, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 16, 2009, at his residence. He was born May 28, 1931, in Martin County to the late Roy and Ethel Blankenship Dunaway.
Mr. Dunaway was a Christian and a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Grayson. He retired from Armco Metal Products in Summit where he worked as a manager. He was a Past Master at the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge No. 629, a member of the El Hasa Shriners of Ashland, a Scottish Rite member, Kentucky Colonel and a four-year United States Air Force Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Velda Barker Dunaway; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Ray Tackett and Lauretta of Grayson, and David Allen Tackett and Kay of Morehead; a daughter, Debra Tackett of Olive Hill; two brothers, Mike and Max Dunaway of Bellefonte; and 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three nieces, a nephew, and a host of extended family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Ronald Knox officiating. Burial will be in the Olive Hill Memorial Park with full military graveside rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and all day Monday with Masonic services beginning at 7 p.m. Monday by the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge No. 629 and anytime until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home chapel.

Debra “Dobie” Grubb (1955-2009)
Debra “Dobie” Grubb, 54, of Russell, formerly of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland with family and friends by her side following a sudden illness.
Debra was born July 5, 1955, in Ashland, a daughter of Donna Braden Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., and the late Phillip Grubb. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbie Grubb; maternal grandparents, Frank and Margie Braden; and by her beloved dog, Dixie Cup.
She attended Raceland-Worthington Schools before moving and graduating from Russell High School in 1973. Following graduation, Debbie began a career as a respiratory therapist, practicing at KDMC in Ashland. She then moved to Lexington prior to making Cape Coral, Fla. her home. She was involved in several community activities. She enjoyed boating, travel, music and her annual attendance of the Kentucky Derby. Her adventurous spirit lead her to become “Fiddlesticks,” a professional clown, an ordained minister and an attempted violinist, among many other things.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Adam Stewart of Flatwoods; two sisters, Colene Dalton of Worthington, and Kathy Grubb of Raceland, and several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends who loved and will miss her.
Thelma Caudill Justice (1925-2009)
Thelma Caudill Justice, 84, of Flatwoods, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Justice was born March 19, 1925, in Naples, Ky., a daughter of the late Lacy and Sally Conley Caudill. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Justice, in 2004.
She was a teacher and guidance counselor for the Greenup County Board of Education for 40 years, was of the Methodist faith, was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the KTA.
Surviving is a daughter, Linda Justice, of Raceland.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Tom Heaberlin. Burial will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Richard Wilkes (1940-2009)
Richard Edwin Wilkes, 69, of Hurricane, went home to be with his Savior on Oct. 15, 2009, after a brief struggle with cancer. He was born in Chesapeake, Ohio on July 18, 1940, to Maxine and Bernard Wilkes. He was preceded in death by his father.
Wilkes was a graduate of Chesapeake Ohio High School, Lincoln Memorial University, Marshall University and West Virginia University.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly Gayle Chapman Wilkes; a son and daughter-in-law, Deron and Trish Wilkes of Hurricane; a daughter, Joy Wilkes of Huntington; sons, Richard Neil Wilkes of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Corey Wilkes of Reynoldsburg and Daniel Wilkes of Gainesville, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Ron Fouts of Gahanna, Ohio. He loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with his eleven grandchildren. He leaves behind Emily and Lydia Waybright, Tiffany Brown, Iris, Eden, Clark, Violet, Lavender and Neil Fouts, and Landon and Keiren Wilkes. Richard is also survived by his mother, Maxine Sites Wilkes of Chesapeake and a sister and brother-in-law, Linda Lou and John “Pete” Jeffers of Chesapeake. Other survivors include several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Richard received his license to preach from Rockwood Missionary Baptist Church of Chesapeake in 1968 and was ordained into the ministry by the Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church in 1975. He served as the pastor of Naomi Missionary Baptist Church of Quincy, W.Va., for 34 years. He was a retired educator of 43 years after teaching in Kanawha and Mason Counties. Richard was also a mathematics supervisor for the West Virginia Department of Education for 14 years and served as adjunct faculty at Marshall University, West Virginia University, West Virgnia State College and the West Virginia Institute of Technology. After his retirement, Richard taught at Covenant School as well as privately where he continued to touch and change the lives of many children.
Richard was inducted into the Chesapeake High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Lincoln Memorial University Athletic Hall of Fame in two sports. He also received numerous teaching awards, including the 1992 Distinguished Teachers Award from the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Hubbard Hospice House.

11 a.m. at the Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 3926 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV, with Brother John White officiating.

Sharon T. Shepherd (1946-2009)
Sharon T. Shepherd, 63, of Huntington passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Huntington to the late Arnold and Anna N. Preece Topping.
She graduated from Dawson-Bryant High School and Marshall University with a masters degree. She was an artist and a decorator.
She is survived by four brothers, David Topping of Ironton, Ohio, William “Bill” Topping of Artesia, N.M., Arnold Jr. (Carolyn) Topping of Flatwoods and Dallas “DJ” (Judy) of Wheelersburg, Ohio; three aunts, Mary Maynard of Huntington, Dorothy Preece of Lavalette, W.Va. and Hazel Staley of Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Danny Preece at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the Reger Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington. Burial will follow at the Preece Family Cemetery in Buffalo Creek, W.Va.

Hazel Craft (1917-2009)
Hazel Bach Craft, 92, of Caney, Ky., died Friday in Morgan County ARH in West Liberty. She was born March 2, 1917, in Breathitt County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wardie Craft.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Redeemed Baptist Church in Caney. Burial will be in Memory Hill Cemetery in Caney.

Kansas Salmon (1913-2009)
Kansas Salmon, 95, of Greenup, died Friday in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 18, 1913. Her husband, Dutch Salmon, preceded her in death.

Edith Mae Blanton Reed, 79, of Thelma, died Friday in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born May 7, 1930, in Johnson County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy J. Blanton. Husband Fred Reed survives.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at East Side Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Blanton Cemetery in River, Ky.

Terry Wayne Butcher, 62, of Owingsville, died Friday. He was born March 2, 1947. His wife, Melissa Gross Butcher, survives.
