Grace Dillon Webb - 1947-2009

Grace Dillon Webb, age 62, made her way to her heavenly home, Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.

She was born Sept. 14, 1947, in Crum, W.Va., to the late William H. and Elizabeth Belcher Dillon.

Grace was a life-long resident of Fort Gay, W.Va. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge. Grace had a pure Christian heart that led her to several area churches including Meades Branch Freewill Baptist with her middle son, Billy Ray, Louisa Freewill Baptist with her oldest and youngest sons, Dewey Lee Jr. and Heath Allen and Concord and Friendship Churches with her late father.

Grace had many hobbies and special interests. She loved quilting and sewing. She was a collector of railroad memorabilia, brought about by her love for her father, a retired railroader and her former job as a cook for N & S Railroad. She loved clothes, shoes and jewelry. All of those fortunate enough to know Grace will remember her as the little lady with the big heart. She was honest, loving, trustworthy, and had a determination that could not be swayed.

Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dewey Lee Webb. She is survived by three sisters, Ella Louise Ellis and Rojean Bryant of Florida and Linda Carrol Dillon of Ohio and one brother, William H. Dillon Jr., also of Ohio. Grace has left behind her beloved children, Dewey Lee Webb Jr. and wife, Belinda, Missy O’Daniel and husband, Todd, Billy Ray Webb and wife, Cassandra and Heath Allen Webb and wife, Kathy, all of Louisa, Ky., and Lisa Kay Lewis and husband, Danny of Kenova, W.Va. Grace would have gladly given her life for any one of her children. She loved each one of them with all her heart. Grace was more than a “Mommy”. She was a mentor, a friend, and a hero to her children. The sound of her voice could calm a storm within their hearts. Words can never adequately express the close bond she shared with them.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, or “little buttons” as she referred to them, Justin Ray Fluty, Tanner Logan Webb, Jason Todd O’Daniel, Elizabeth Grace Fluty, Emily Kathryn Webb, Eden Adair Webb, Jacob Kyle Webb, Ellie Klaire Webb, Adrian Paige Webb and Anna Lewis. As each child entered the world, Grace came to know them with a love specialized for each child. She was something unique to each child. She would get so excited at the sight of their sweet faces she just had to touch them. Her favorite thing to do was pinch their cheeks between her index and middle fingers with her teeth clinched, sweetly saying “I love ‘em so much I could pinch a hunk outa ‘em!. Always careful enough not to leave a mark, except for the faint hint of whatever lipstick she was wearing formed into a sweet kiss on their cheek. Each child blessed with her love and left with the privilege of knowing her in their own special way. Others left behind include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Grace was many special things to each person that loved her and she will be greatly missed. Our loss here on Earth is heavens gain.

As we look back on life we should realize that life should not be measured by the number of breaths we have taken but instead by the number of moments that have taken our breath. Grace celebrated each moment she lived to the fullest. She could have found a breath taking moment each day of her life. She understood that the simple pleasures are often times our biggest treasures. Every smile she seen, every kiss she gave, every tear she dried, every heart she comforted and every “I love you” she spoke should be celebrated today, tomorrow and always. Each day we had with her was an unforgettable memory to carry in our hearts and share with generations to come. We must remember that for those of us left behind our breath taking moments with Grace are gone but imagine her splendor in heaven hearing our Father say” Welcome home my precious child.”

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa. Burial will be in Robertson Cemetery in Fort Gay.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
