Kenneth Roger Preston - 1941-2009
Kenneth Roger Preston, 68, of South Point, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at his home. Mr. Preston was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Valls Creek, W.Va., a son of the late Espie Preston and Ernestine Collinsworth Salyers.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and mechanic, a Kentucky Colonel, 32nd degree Mason and 30 year member of the Smith Masonic Lodge in Flatwoods, Ky.
He is survived by three sons, Brian (Connie) Preston of South Point, Michael (Deanna) Preston of Ironton, Ohio and Jason Preston of Ironton; a daughter, Keni (Joe) Carder of Ironton; a special granddaughter, Brooklynn McKnight; three brothers, Ray Preston of Milton, W.Va., David Preston of Chatteroy, W.Va. and Danny Preston of Patriot, W.Va.; seven sisters, Mary Davis of Greenup, Bonnie Burke of Ironton, Janet Ramesy of Ironton, Anita Muncy of Ragland, W.Va., Lena Maynard of Madison, W.Va., Trudy Ellis of Ravenswood, W.Va. and Vicki Hager; eleven grandchildren, David, Jessica, Shelbi, Casey, Stephanie, Michael, Ethan, Sami, Audrey, Jordan and Aaron; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Ashley Preston and Brianna Preston; and a brother, Lark Preston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup with Pastor Dane Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery, Coal Branch Road, Greenup.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and one hour before the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Annabelle Lee McClanahan - 1921-2009
Annabelle Lee (Shope) McClanahan, 88, of Worthington, Ky., entered Heaven on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009. She was a resident of Woodland Oaks nursing facility.
Annabelle was born April 26, 1921, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Edward and Dolly (Damron) Shope.
Annabelle was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Mead Memorial Methodist Church in Russell, Eastern Star, and was well known for her seamstress abilities.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. McClanahan; a daughter, Karen Denise McClanahan; a grandson, John Anthony McClanahan; a great-grandson, Joshua Cory Coburn; two sisters, Helen Shope and Geneva Fannin; two brothers, Edward Shope and Kermit Shope; and a daughter-in-law, Freda (Johnson) McClanahan.
Annabelle is survived by one brother, Paul (Rhoda) Shope of Medway, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon (John) Delany of Dayton, Ohio and Johnda McClanahan of Worthington, Ky.; three sons, Joseph (Amy) McClanahan of Alexandria, Va., John (Judy) McClanahan of Calhoun, Tenn. and Roger (Celeste) McClanahan of Russell, Ky.; and six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with the Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky. Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. until funeral time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mead Memorial Methodist Church, your community hospice or a charity of your choice.
Howard Farmer Skaggs - 1920-2009
Howard Farmer Skaggs, 89, of Martha, Ky. died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 3:45 a.m. in Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa after a short illness. He was born March 15, 1920, in Martha, Ky. to the late Ford K. and Nola Williams Skaggs.
He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and worked as a production foreman supervisor and farmer for Ashland Oil. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. D.A.V., served with the Army in World War II, and was a member of Bluegrass Chapter #1 of P.O.W. 100th Division Infantry.
He is survived by his wife, Arline Burton Skaggs of Martha, Ky.; a nephew, Sam (Phyllis) Kingsmore of Louisa, Ky.; three nieces, Karen (Morris) Kennedy of Lexington, Ky., Janet (Greg) Beckelheimer of Louisa, Ky. and Elizabeth (Brad) Ratliff, of Ohio; and several great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa. Rev. Emmitt Barker, Rev. Buck West and Rev. Donnie Sturgill will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Martha, Ky. or from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
Daisy Lee Thayer - 1918-2009
Daisy Lee Thayer, 91, of Quincy, died Friday at her residence. She was born June 23, 1918.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Elbert Thayer Sr.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg.
Burial will be in Bivens Cemetery in Quincy.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Dr. Byron E. Wentz - 1924-2009
Dr. Byron E. Wentz, 85, of Morehead, died Friday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born April 12, 1924. His wife, Helen Grace Tierce Wentz, survives.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Morehead United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery with military rites.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.

Sonny Bailey - 1962-2009
Sonny Bailey, 47, of Ironton, died at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. on Friday. He was born May 6, 1962, in Lawrence County.
Graveside services will be at noon Tuesday at Pine Grove Cemetery in Pine Grove. No visitation will be observed.

Lucille Gibson Vogelsong - 1923-2009
Lucille Gibson Vogelsong, 86, of Ironton died Friday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Pedro. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Gibson and her second husband, Wayne Vogelsong.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Nora Mae Bailey - 1953-2009
Nora Mae Bailey, 56, of Ashland, formerly of Ironton, died Saturday. She was born March 6, 1953, in Beckley, W.Va.
Her husband, Carl Bailey, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Milfred Dale Lambert - 1965-2009
Milfred Dale Lambert, 44, of South Shore, died Wednesday at his residence. He was born in Pike County on Feb. 13, 1965. His wife Kimberlee White Lambert of South Shore survives.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore is in charge of arrangements.
Loretta M. Kemper
Loretta M. “Tudy” Kemper, 76, of South Shore, formerly of Ashland, died in South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Shore Friday. Her husband Marion “Doc” Kemper preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
