Martha Arnett (1928-2009)
Martha Arnett, 80, of Ashland, Ky., widow of Scaggs Arnett, died Sunday morning in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Martha was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Lewis and Ella Fields Urick.
She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joe Jerrells.
Surviving are three sons, Johnny Conley of Paintsville, Ky., Robert Arnett of Ashland and Rick Murtin of Florida; three daughters, Ella Mae Branham, Angie Pennington and Rhoda Harris, all of Ashland; two brothers, Jonas Fields of LaRue, Ohio and William Urick of Marion, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Michael Rice. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until service time.

Chuck Hood (1918–2009)
Charles Raymond “Chuck” Hood, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mr. Hood was 91 years of age, born Aug. 12, 1918, in Pulaskie, Ky., a son of the late Willis Edward and Helen Mae Turpen Hood.
Chuck’s family moved to Ashland in 1922. He graduated with the Ashland High School Class of ’37, and attended the University of Kentucky receiving his BSEE in 1942. He served our great nation honorably during World War II with the Army Air Corp in Iceland, attaining the rank of 2nd Lt., and was a radar officer from June 1942 to June 1946. Upon returning from the military, Chuck was employed by Ashland Oil & Refining Co. as an instrument supervisor, retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of the South Ashland Lions Club, where he held various offices.
He was preceded in death by Fran Hood and Linda Webb Hood.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, who loved him dearly, Pam and Chip Womack and Patti and Jeff Wise; four grandchildren, Travis (Laura) Womack, Ashley (Mike) Kasey, Scott (Cary) Wise and Matt Wise.
A private service will be held. There is no visitation.
The family graciously requests that no flowers be sent, instead donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to the South Ashland Lions Club, c/o Pam Womack, 1708 Lexington Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101, or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.

Deryle Faye Martin (1923-2009)
Deryle Faye Martin, 86, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with her Lord Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009. She died in her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys Preston and was born May 16, 1923, in Ulysses, Ky. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emmit Junior Preston and second husband, Otis G. Damron and two brothers, Earl Preston and Joe Preston.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jesse M. Martin and four children, three sons, Gary Preston and wife, Barbara of Ashland, Ronald Damron and wife, Kathy of Ashland and Steve Damron and wife, Kim of Nicholasville, Ky.; one daughter, Glenda Steele and husband, Mike Stockton of Roanoke, Va.; four stepchildren, two stepsons, Rick Martin and wife, Carol of Wilmington, N.C., and Eric Martin and wife, Polly of Radcliff, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Mary Elizabeth Evans and husband, Gary of Elizabeth, Ind., and Ann Thorp of Wilmington; two sisters, Joan Hatfield of Mount Holly, N.C., and Gay O’Neal of Wellington, Fla.; one brother, Wallace Preston of Westwood, Ky.; six grandchildren, Tonya Jaggers, Jeff Damron, Brady Preston, Heather Spillman, Kevin Damron and Misty Michael; 11 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of Summit Missionary Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher of the Adult Women’s Ruth Class and a member of the Fellowship Committee.
Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland is handling the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 t0 8 p.m. today, Sept. 22. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, officiated by Pastor Kevin Meenach.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brady Preston and Kevin Damron, and great-grandsons, Jacob Steele, Bryce Steele, Ryan Damron and Matthew Damron. Burial with graveside rites will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Peggy Gullett Thompson (1931-2009)
Peggy Gullett Thompson died in her home Sept. 13, 2009.
She was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Filmore, Ind. She lived the early part of her life in Grayson and Ashland, Ky., and attended Grayson schools.
Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Robert Jay Thompson; her mother, Ruth Scott Gullett; her father, Charles Gullett and her stepmother, Janice Phillips Gullett.
She is survived by her husband, Lanty Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Sandra Thompson Kal (Robert); her grandson, Parker Kal, all of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Mary Ann Locke (Dave) and Phyliss Ball (Bill), both of Mansfield, Ohio; a brother, Charles Gullett (Evelyn) of Selma, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was a Navy wife for 20 plus years and accompanied her husband to several duty stations including two overseas tours. She will be greatly missed.

William H. Dillon (1925-2009)
William Harrison Dillon, age 84, of Louisa, Ky., was picked up very gently and taken home by his heavenly father around 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Clifford, Ky.
He was a member of The Concord United Baptist Church and Rush Masonic Lodge 715 F&AM, 32nd degree Masonic Scottish Rite, Valley of Huntington. He served in World War II in the Army and retired from the NW Railroad at 37 1/2 years.
He was preceded in death by two loving wives, Elizabeth Belcher Dillon who died in 1970 and Delphia Sammons Dillon who died in 2004; and his father and mother, Wayne and Minnie Bluboum Dillon; a son, Freddie Dillon; four brothers, Floyed, Mont, Ira and Walter Dillon; three sisters, Ivory Varney, Hazel Artzs, Ethal Piznor and Inise Dillon; and one grandson, Jason Bryant.
Left behind are three sisters, Polly Fluty of Clifford, Flornia Wilks of Columbus, Ohio, and Gracie Stewart of Oregon; four loving daughters, Ro Jean and spouse Tony Bryant and Ella Louise Ellis, both of Port Richey, Fla., Linda Dillon of Columbus, Ohio, and Grace Webb, at home; one son, William H. Dillon Jr. and wife, Rhonda Dillon of Circleville, Ohio; one stepson, Charles R. Salmons and wife, Peggy Salmons of Louisa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one stepgreat-granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
He will be greatly misswed by all.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa by Wayne Salmons, John Goble and Venny Vanhoose, officiating. Burial will be in Belcher Cemetery located at Bull Creek, Crum, W.Va.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic service.
James Kolb Sr. (1946-2009)
James J. Kolb Sr., 63, of Ashland, died Sept. 18 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born July 27, 1946, in Buffalo, N.Y.
There will be no services.

1922-2009
Alline Wilson Stapleton, 86, of Olive Hill, died Sept. 18 in Carter Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.
She was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Elliott County.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Roar Cemetery in Grahn.
There will be no visitation.

Hershel Howard, 89, of Salyersville, died Sept. 18.

Aaron Ferguson
Infant Aaron Ryan Ferguson, son of Virgil and Kandy Horn Ferguson of Flat Gap, died Sept. 17 in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born Sept. 17, 2009.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. Sunday at Chaffins Family Cemetery in Warfield.

Helen Wells (1931-2009)
Helen Burke Wells of Prestonsburg, died Sunday.
She was born June 7, 1931, in Prestonsburg.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Prestonsburg. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

James Raymond Collinsworth, 75, of Ezel, died Sunday in Edgewood Estate Nursing Home in Frenchburg.
His wife, Patty Wilson Collinsworth, survives.

Timothy Robinson (1958-2009)
Timothy Robinson, 51, of Hanging Rock, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born June 6, 1958, in Ironton.
A graveside service will be at noon Thursday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
There will be no visitation.
