Virginia “Ginnie” Hereford Armstrong (1916-2009)
Virginia Hereford Armstrong, age 93, of Unity Square in Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born July 17, 1916, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Harry and Lena Bond Hereford.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
She retired at age 79 from McMeans Pharmacy in Ashland where she worked at Ashland’s original soda fountain. Prior to that, she had worked at the Chimney Corner.
She attended Coal Grove Nazarene Church. She graduated in 1934 as salutatorian from Thomas Brown High School in Catlettsburg, Ky. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and avid traveler.
Surviving are sons, Michael Armstrong and wife, Christine of Lake City, Fla., Gary Fullerton and wife, Linda of Flatwoods, Ky., Billy Armstrong and wife, Cindy of Lexington, Ky., and Carl Nance and wife, Beverly of Ironton, Ohio; daughters, Georgia Baldridge and husband, Lloyd of Flatwoods and Frances “Tanny” Williams and husband, Fred of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; brother, Harry “Buddy” Hereford and wife, Audrey, of Grandview, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Lloyd Baldridge and Pastor Ed Myers. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Katherine Tufts Sexton (1922-2009)
Katherine Tufts Sexton, of Greenup, died Sept. 10, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born May 12, 1922, a daughter of the late Carrie Halley Tufts and Lewis Tufts of Wurtland.
She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sabrina Bays Caudill.
Surviving are daughters, Diana Holland and her husband, Louis of Wurtland, Sharon Klinglesmith and husband, Ed of Indian-Harbor Beach, Fla., and Karleen Bays and her husband, Clemont of Greenup; four grandsons, William and Nathan Klinglesmith of Florida and Sean and Shane Bays of Wurtland; and four great-granddaughters, Shawnda, Haley, Breanna and Ryann Rachelle Bays of Wurtland.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1136 E. Main St., Greenup.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Billy Harper (1932-2009)
Billy G. Harper, 77, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, following a 22-month battle with liver cancer in Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born Feb. 29, 1932 at Rosedale, a son of the late Ted Harper and Pearl Kitchen.
He was a retired boilermaker out of Local #667 in Charleston, W.Va., a farmer, an Army Korean veteran, a member of the Olive Hill F.&A.M. Lodge #629, an El Hasa Shriner, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Porter. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rhoda Porter Harper. His other survivors include three sons, Rob and wife Jeannie Jo Harper of Grayson, Dane Harper of Grayson, and Jody Harper of Grayson; one daughter, Sherry and husband Rick McGlone of Grayson; five sisters, Pauline and husband Curt Stephens of Grayson, Elizabeth and Arnold Bradley of St. Louis, Mo., Rosemary Lee of Grayson, Bonnie Felty of Grayson, and Jane and husband Gary Tackett of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Chester and wife Minnie Harper of Grayson, and Jim and wife Jill Bentley of Grayson; four grandchildren, Shanna and husband Mark Coleman of Lexington, Chandra Harper of Grayson, Britney and husband Ryan Porter of Grayson, and Madison Harper of Grayson; two great-grandsons, Deakon Porter and Sterling Coleman.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by minister Randy Binion. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Carl Kozee (1939-2009)
Carl Wayne Kozee was born April 26, 1939, in Grayson. He was the son of the late Beecher Kozee and Ruby Pennington Kozee. Carl was a retired self-employed construction contractor, attended Oak Grove Church of Christ, was an Army veteran, and an avid golfer, fisherman, and farmer. He loved spending time with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Sullivan Kozee; one son, Mike and wife Misty Kozee of Greenup; one daughter, Vicki and husband Neil Stephens of Florence, Ky.; two sisters, Joan and husband Lonnie Bocook of Fairborn, Ohio, Janet and husband Jack Duncan of Flatwoods, Ky.; two brothers, Sam and wife Nancy Kozee of Grayson, Jimmy and wife Peggy Kozee of Grayson; two granddaughters, Emily Stephens and Sydnie Kozee; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with the burial in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Matthew Burns Sr. (1960-2009)
Matthew Darrell Burns Sr., 48, of Westwood, died Aug. 15 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1960, in Indianapolis, Ind.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Paul Coffey Cemetery in Fallsburg.

Ernest “Bud” Brown
Ernest “Bud” Brown, 84, of Worthington, died Thursday at Our Lady of Bellefonte in Russell, Ky.

Ezra Roseberry (1940-2009)
Ezra Glen Roseberry, 69, of Olive Hill, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born July 27, 1940 in Sandy Hook, Ky.
His wife, Regina Gough Roseberry, survives.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Middle Fork Church of God in Elliott County.

Jesse Elam (1915-2009)
Jesse Bradley Elam, 94, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Van Lear, died Monday in Kenilworth Care & Rehabilitation Center in Sebring.
She was born July 31, 1915, in Magoffin County.
Her husband, James M. Elam, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Geneva Wooten McClurg, 87, of Clearfield, died Wednesday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born June 5, 1922.
Her husband, Harry McClurg, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead.

Earmil “Morris” Combs, 75, of Fort Calhoun, Neb., died Tuesday in Omaha, Neb.
He was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Johnson County.
His wife, Janice Blanton Combs, survives.

He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Bottorff Kidd.

Harold Heller (1919-2009)
Harold E. Heller, 89, of Clinton Township, Mich., formerly of Portsmouth, died Monday in Clinton Township.
He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Scioto County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia A. Fields Heller.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky. Burial will be in South Webster Cemetery.

Thomas Jordan (1935-2009)
Thomas R. Jordan, 74, of Ironton died Wednesday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Feb. 4, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Crance Jordan.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will follow in Zoar Cemetery. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850.
