Freda Hill - 1953-2008
Ollie Freda Simpson Hill, 54, of Ashland died Monday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. She was born Oct. 7, 1953, in Insull, the daughter of Bertha Rutherford Simpson Harbin and her husband, Charles, of Detroit, Mich.; and the late Albert Simpson.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and stepfather, include one son and daughter-in-law, James and Amber Hill of Ashland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deanne and Daniel Tackett of Catlettsburg and Honey Lynn Bevins of Ashland; three brothers, Rick Simpson of Bay City, Mich., Brad Simpson of Newport, Mich., and Bernie Simpson of Detroit; one sister, Timber Sizemore of Detroit; six precious grandchildren and one on the way.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at Oakland Cemetery in Blackmont, Ky.
Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Reed Jr. - 1970-2008
Richard Preston Reed, Jr., 38, of Westwood, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was born June 5, 1970, in Birmingham, Ala., a son of Linda Patrick Phillips, her husband Willis, and Richard P. Reed Sr. and his wife Caullea, all of Ashland. He was a student of Russell High School, where he played football and basketball and he was a construction worker and painter. He was of the Baptist faith.
Rick was a wonderful loving father to five precious children, Melissa, Caitlyn, Stephen, Corriena and Ricky, whom he all adored. Also surviving, is a step sister, Missy, and stepbrother, Willis.
Rick loved his extended family and they in turn will miss him deeply, but are blessed with so many fond memories.
Preceding him in death is a sister, Angela Reed.
A funeral service for Richard Reed Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Rev. Bruce Pickard. Final rest to follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gerald Damron - 1940-2008
Gerald Stephen Damron, 68, of Ashland went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born June 5, 1940, in Ashland, son of the late Bryant C. and Gypsy Kahne Damron. He was the husband of Susan Quinn Scott Damron, who survives. He was a soulwinner and faithful member of Crossroads Baptist Church and was a pipefitter with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 248.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Elizabeth Damron and Patricia Ann Damron.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Bryan Stephen Damron of Sandy Hook; one daughter, Ruthey Miranda Damron of Ashland; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard C. and Carol Damron of Ashland; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tom Stephens of Russell; and two grandchildren, Dylan Gerald Damron and Marli Faith Damron.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel, in Ashland, with Pastors Chris Rutledge and Jason Porter officiating. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Brandi Blevins - 1979-2008
Brandi Blevins, 29, of Greenup died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, in Boyd County. She was born Jan. 8, 1979, in Ashland, the daughter of Stephen M. and Sherry Chiquita Fowler Blevins of Greenup. She was a 1997 graduate of Russell High School, where she played basketball and ran track. She was a retail-sales clerk and was a member of Bridges Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sherman and Wanda Fowler.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include grandparents, Norvalee and Rose Mary Blevins of Flatwoods; one sisther and brother-in-law, Michelle and Ryan Salyers of Worthington; one niece, Haley Salyers; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Minister Jack Salyers officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Devon Mays - 1967-2008
Devon Mays, 40, of Ashland, died Friday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul M. Brown - 1920-2008
Paul M. Brown, 87, of Westwood died Friday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
His wife, Imogene Brown, survives.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Clay Dixon - 1955-2008
Clay Edison Dixon, 52, of Olive Hill died Friday at Rockcastle Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born Sept. 13, 1955, in Carter County.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today and until the service hour on Monday at the funeral home.
