The Rev. Roy Lee Cosby - 1935-2008
Roy Lee Cosby, 73, of Wheelwright, Ky., died Saturday morning in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
He was born June 1, 1935, a son of the late Georgene Cosby and James Leece.
The Reverend Cosby was a devoted member of Christ Temple Church in Ashland for many years. After retiring from the railroad, he moved to Wheelwright, where he was a pastor of Light House Temple for 17 years.
He is survived by a loving wife of 37 years, Maxine Cosby. Other survivors include three daughters, Anita L. Taylor of Aberdeen, Md., Phyllis Smith of Cherry Valley, Ill., and Jo Carol Adams of Ashland, Ky.; and four sons, William Houston of Columbus, Ga., Roy Cosby Jr. of Portsmouth, Ohio, Myron Houston of Ashland and Shawn Cosby of Ashland. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Light House Temple in Wheelwright. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Ashland Cemetery.
Leroy Rice - 1945-2008
Leroy Rice, 63, of 29th Street in Ashland, Ky., passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Rice was born April 21, 1945, in Ashland, a son of the late Luther and Mary Gibbs Rice. His wife, Hazel Sue Cole Rice, preceded him in death in 2005. He was a member of Southside Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed going to yard sales. But one of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Rice and his wife, Elaine, of Ashland and Bobby Rice and his wife, Jennifer, of Rush, Ky.; four grandchildren, Chris Rice, age 9, Brie Anna, age 6, Abbey Rice, age 4 and Aleshia Rice, age 3; and five sisters.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers and a sister.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Southside Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Jim Webster will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Nile Martin - 1922-2008
Nile Martin, 86, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Trinity Station in Flatwoods.
Mr. Martin was born July 18, 1922, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late William and Cariie Martin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Marie Hardin Martin.
He was a maintenance foreman with National Mine Service Co., a member of First Baptist Church of Flatwoods, where he served as deacon emeritus, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a daughter, Nileen Verbeten of Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Ocel Martin of Raceland, Ky., and Kenneth Martin of Coral Springs, Fla.; a sister, Mayme Lou Carter of Tucson, Ariz.; and 11 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Flatwoods by Pastor Rick Crews. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, with military rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Flatwoods Building Fund.
Marcia Rae Boggs Fitzgerald - 1963-2008
Mrs. Marcia Rae Boggs Fitzgerald, 44, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away Monday morning, Sept. 1, 2008, in Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born Oct. 17, 1963, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of Gracie Caudill Boggs of Hayward, Ky., and the late Calvin Boggs.
Marcia was a Christian and a member of the Church of God in Killeen. She served her country with the United States Army, where she received her nursing degree.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Henry Clay Fitzgerald; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, David and Sylvia Boggs and Steven and Lisa Boggs, all of Lexington, Ky., Doug and Rosie Boggs and Keith Boggs, all of Soldier, Ky., and Kevin and Pam Boggs of Olive Hill; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan Lemaster and Mary Boggs, both of Olive Hill, and Lenora and Junior Kidd of Farmers, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Gayle Price. Burial will be at a later date.

She was born March 30, 1936, in Catlettsburg.
Her husband, Levi Ritchie, preceded her in death.

Ruth Mundy Messer, 81, of Olive Hill, died Tuesday at her residence.
She was born Sept. 20, 1926, in Bath County.
Her husband, Wayne Cotton Messer, preceded her in death.

Polly Fannin - 1936-2008
Polly Jean Fannin, 72, of Louisa, died Tuesday in Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.
She was born March 3, 1936, in Mill Creek, W.Va.
Her husband, Delmar Lee Fannin, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in See Cemetery in Louisa.

David Pettit Jr. - 1937-2008
David Pettit Jr., 70, of Clearfield, died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Rowan County.
His wife, Fayola Blair Pettit, survives.
