Thelma Lafferty Juricak - 1925-2008

Thelma Lafferty Juricak, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday morning, Aug. 31, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Juricak was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Langley, Ky., the last surviving child of the late James and Elizabeth Allen Lafferty.

Her husband, John Juricak, died in 1994.

She was owner and operator of Green Acres Trailer Park and a member of Holy Family Church in Ashland.

Surviving are a daughter, Beth Sigler of Ashland; two grandchildren, Heather McCoy and her husband, Travis, and Chris Sigler; and two great-grandchildren, Byron McCoy and Garrett McCoy.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Father John Noe. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 3, 2008, at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Jerry Cornett

Jerry Cornett, 48, formerly of Ashland, husband of Robin Fritts Cornett, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, after a long illness.

He was raised at Linefork, Ky., a son of the late Evan and Isiebelle Daniels Cornett.

He was a transformer specialist for American Electric Power for 25 years and dabbled in digital media when he was unable to work.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, he is survived by his children, Autumn (Josh) Hardy, Austin Cornett, Alexia Cornett and Aithan Cornett, all of Lexington; grandchildren Xander and Xavier Hardy; and siblings Arvil Cornett, Daisy Coleman, Estill Cornett, Darrell Cornett, Cleda McClintock, Wanda Gaul, Ola Bobik, Sharon Hayward and Terry Cornett.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Cornett.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Milward-Broadway in Lexington.

Visitation will be after 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Judith Rosylnd Farley - 1945-2008

Judith Rosylnd Farley, 62, of Westwood, died Tuesday morning in King’s Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness.

Judy was born Nov. 7, 1945, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Chalmer and Lucille Brown Carroll.

She was a member of Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church. Her husband, Douglas Farley, died in 1999.

Surviving are a son, Doug Farley of Ironton, Ohio; a daughter, Rebecca Miller of Toledo, Ohio; three brothers, Joe Melvin of Trenton, Ohio, Bill Melvin of Westwood, Ky., and Charles Kretzer of Xenia, Ohio; two sisters, Johnda Clark of Westwood and Janette McClure of Cannonsburg, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Phillip Zimmerman. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Nephews of Judy will serve as pallbearers.

Lucy Charles Stratton - 1914-2008

Lucy Stratton passed from this life on Sept. 2, 2008, at the age of 94.

She was born in Pikeville, Ky., on March 15, 1914, the daughter of the late Lewis and Sarah Charles.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Carrie Burnette and Kansada McGuire of Pikeville; and three brothers, Oscar, Ballard and George Charles of West Virginia.

Lucy lived most of her life in Boyd County. She had been active in the Republican Party for many years. She was a Kentucky colonel. Lucy loved making quilts for her family and was a member of Beech Street Christian Church for many years.

She was the widow of Hansel Stratton, who passed from this life on Jan. 19, 1980. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Patricia Crance, and a son, Billy Joe Stratton of Pennsylvania.

Survivors include a son, Curtis Stratton and wife Dorothy, who helped care for her for years; two daughters, Lorraine Greene of Arizona and Sheila (Gerald) Peace of Summit; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a very special neighbor and caretaker, Janette Huffman.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Kenneth Vaughn.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beech Street Christian Church Building Fund, 1672 Beech St., Ashland, KY 41102.

Chuck Leadingham - 1963-2008

Charles “Chuck” Leadingham, 44, of Stewart Lane, Ashland, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident. His wife, Denise Lyons Leadingham, was also fatally injured in the accident.

Mr. Leadingham was born Dec. 17, 1963, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of Charles and Lillian Osenton Leadingham of Catlettsburg. Chuck was a sergeant and field supervisor with the Ashland Police Department for more than 20 years, a member of FOP Lodge 3 and BPOE 350 and active in youth league sports in Ashland.

Surviving are a daughter, Lacey Leadingham of Ashland; a son, C.J. Leadingham at home; a brother, Thomas Leadingham and his wife, Cindy, with the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Va; and a sister, Mary Beth Patton and her husband, Kevin, of Catlettsburg.

A funeral service service to honor Chuck will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Unity Baptist Church, 2320 29th St. in Ashland. Dean Jackson, minister, will offer words of comfort and inspiration. Final rest will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the C.J. Leadingham Trust Fund Account, Community Trust Bank, P.O. Box 671, Ashland, KY 41105-9984.

Denise Leadingham - 1965-2008

Denise Lyons Leadingham, 42, of Stewart Lane, Ashland, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, from injuries she received in a motorcycle accident.

Mrs. Leadingham was born Oct. 2, 1965, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of Charlotte Hall Lyons of Flatwoods and the late Billy G. Lyons. Denise’s husband, Chuck Leadingham, was also fatally involved in the accident.

She was director of food service at the Federal Correctional Institute in Summit for 17 years, a member of FOP Lodge 3 and coached JFL cheerleaders in the Ashland league.

Surviving are a daughter, Lacey Leadingham of Ashland; a son, C.J. Leadingham at home; and three sisters, Karen Ruggieri and her husband, David, of Flatwoods, Kimberly Owens of Ironton, Ohio, and Suzanne Williams and her husband, Robert, of Flatwoods.

A funeral service in remembrance of Denise will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Unity Baptist Church, 2320 29th St. in Ashland. Dean Jackson, minister, will offer words of comfort and reassurance. Final rest will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Leroy Rice - 1945-2008

Leroy Rice, 63, of Ashland, died Sunday at his residence.

He was born April 21, 1945, in Ashland.

His wife, Hazel Sue Cole Rice, died in 2005.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Southside Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Freda Hill - 1953-2008

Freda Ollie Simpson Hill, 54, of Ashland, died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mrs. Hill was born Oct. 7, 1953, in Harlan.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Louie Clark - 1928-2008

Louie Edward Clark, 79, of Olive Hill, died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Lawton.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Clark Family Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion.

Ruth Mundy Messer, 81, of Olive Hill, died Tuesday at her residence.

Jacqueline Cline - 1927-2008

Jacqueline Cline, 81, of Lowmansville, died Monday in Mountain Manor Nursing Facility in Paintsville.

She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Printer.

Her husband, Eugene Cline, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Cline Family Cemetery in Lowmansville.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Norris Grayson - 1930-2008

Norris E. Grayson, 78, of Vanceburg, died Monday in Golden Living Center.

He was born March 22, 1930, in Vanceburg.

His wife, Peggy Hickle Grayson, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Vanceburg.

Donald Patton - 1920-2008

Donald Patton, 88, of Langley, husband of Earleen May Patton, died Monday at his residence.

He was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Auxier.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Juanita Stapleton - 1928-2008

Juanita R. Stapleton, 80, of Ironton, died Monday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

She was born April 17, 1928, in Logan, W.Va.

Her husband, William Stapleton, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hanging Rock Apostolic Church of God. Burial will be in Hanging Rock Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon Thursday at the church.
