Belva Greene - 1914-2008
Belva Berry Greene, 93, of Westwood, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday evening, Aug. 30, 2008.
Belva was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Naples, Ky., and was the last living member of the late George and America Hicks Berry family.
She was a retired day manager of Dairy Hut in Westwood and had previously worked at the Outpost, the Dollhouse and Quality Bakery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John D. Greene; five brothers, James Hay and Sam, Norman, Arthur and Ossie Berry; two sisters, Dollie Kirk and Carrie Gayhart; and a great-grandchild, Mary Elizabeth Greene.
Survivors include three sons, Garland (Elizabeth) Greene of Ashland, Larry (Sonja) Greene of Wurtland and George (Jeanette) Greene of Sunbury, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mark Greene, Heather Greene, Kyle Greene and Kimberley Altamura; eight great-grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa and Noelle Altamura, Isaac Berlin, London Greene, Mark Greene II, Angel Greene and Solomon Greene; and a host of nieces and nephews and very close friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church, where she had been a devoted member for 60 years, by the Rev. Michael Locklear.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
“God knew that she was suffering and that the cure was not to be, so He closed the weary eyelids and said, ‘Come on up with Me.’”

Amanda “Jackie” Rigsby - 1928-2008
Mrs. Amanda “Jackie” Rigsby, 80, of Garrison, Ky., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was born on April 20, 1928, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Clyde Duzan and Chloe Crawford Duzan. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a member of the Senior Citizens of Vanceburg, Ky. She enjoyed her garden, flowers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a member of Garrison Church of Christ.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, Clayton Rigsby, on March 26, 1996, and a sister, Dana Duzan.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Rigsby of Powell, Ohio, and David Rigsby of Carroll, Ohio; a brother, Roger Duzan of Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Carolyn Waring of Ashland, Ky., and Reah Stone of Garrison; four grandchildren, Jackie Jordan, Paul Rigsby, Deidra Noland and Deanna Stites; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., by the Rev. David Thayer. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery on Ky. 1 at South Shore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Siloam Cemetery Care Fund in care of Mrs. Glenna Bower, 87 Carl’s Lane, South Shore, KY 41175.

William Darrell Thompson - 1943-2008
William Darrell Thompson, 65, of Ky. 2, Greenup, Ky., died Sunday at his residence.
He was born Aug. 10, 1943, in Mill Creek, W.Va., the son of the late Bert and Edna Pratt Thompson.
He was a retired machinist for CSX Railroad.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Mary F. Thompson of Greenup; a daughter, Karen (Mel) Thompson Morningstar of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two sons, William D. (Stephanie R.) Thompson of Chesapeake, Va., and Richard D. (Becky) Thompson of Christiansburg, Va.; four sisters, Genieve Noe of Sidney, Ohio, Katherine Scoggins of Columbia, S.C., Wanda Hunley of Fort Gay, W.Va., and Joyce Phillips of Radnor, W.Va.; two brothers, Elbert Thompson of Fort Gay and Ansel Dee Thompson of Radnor; and six grandchildren, Tasha M. Cade, Jonathon D. Opell, Catlin M. Thompson, Heather A. Thompson, Morgan B. Thompson and Meghan E. Thompson.
The funeral will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Damron Cemetery in Radnor.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Ashland.

William Keith Hereford - 1952-2008
William Keith Hereford, 55, of Grayson, died Sunday morning in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Dec. 3, 1952, a son of the late William Byron Hereford. His mother, Eloise Adkins Hereford, survives and resides in Grayson.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 505 of Huntington, W.Va., and a graduate of Prichard High School in Grayson. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Misty (Steve) Patton of Coal Grove, Ohio; a son, Keith Robert (Nicole) Hereford of Grayson; three sisters, Donna (Wade) Wilburn and Connie (Roger) Criswell, both of Grayson, and Vickie (Bud) Rucker of Rush; two grandchildren, Shelby Hereford of Huntington and Gavin Hereford of Grayson; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Terry Hereford, and a niece, Jennifer Criswell.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Clell Lucas, minister.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 2 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cribbs Hill Cemetery near Grayson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wade Wilburn, Byron Criswell, Gordon Womack, Frank Sexton, Jamie Roe and Aaron Tackett. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Wilburn and Kadin Criswell.

Chuck Leadingham, 44, and Denise Lyons Leadingham, 42, of Stewart Lane, Ashland, died Saturday in Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, from injuries they received in a motorcycle accident.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland.

Benjamin “David” Caudill, 62, of Olive Hill, died Sunday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 16, 1945, in Carter County.
His wife, Nellie Roar Caudill, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Olive Hill.

His wife, Betty Cox Nickell, survives.

James H. Ferguson, 78, of South Point, died Sunday in Heartland of Riverview in South Point.
He was born Dec. 11, 1929, in South Point.
His wife, Gilberta Beard Ferguson, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Solida Missionary Baptist Church in South Point. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.
