Charles Kouns - 1919-2008
Charles R. Kouns, 88, of Ashland died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Ashland, the son of the late Bert and Sidna McSurley Kouns. He was the husband of Wanda Warren Kouns, who survives. He was a heavy equipment operator and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II. He attended the First Huntington Christian Baptist Church of God in Huntington.
He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline “Boots” Kouns; two brothers, James H. Kouns and Willard Kouns; three sisters, Opal, Hazel and Sis; and a grandson, Randy Kouns.
Survivors include seven sons, Carl (Connie) Kouns of Beckley, W.Va., Russell (Martha) Kouns of Ashland, Jerry (Glenna) Kouns of Coal Grove, Kenneth Kouns of Georgetown, William (Carlene) Kouns of Coal Grove, Carroll (Pam) Kouns of McVey County, Pa., Harold (Ursula) Kouns of Georgetown; one stepson, Gary (Patty) Greene of Wurtland; three stepdaughters, Brenda (John) Coldiron of Ashland, Colonel Cathy Iler of Woodbridge, Va., and Zonda Hillman of Apex, N.C.; one brother, Bert Kouns Jr. of Ashland; two sisters, Emelie Allen of Elizabethtown and Frankie Harr of Michigan; 19 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home, Marshall Steen Chapel, with Pastor Charles Rice officiating. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Erika Moore - 1929 - 2008
Erika Goris Moore, of Catlettsburg, passed away Friday, August 22, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Moore was 79 years of age, born July 18, 1929, in Berlin, Germany, a daughter of the late Karl and Erika Goris. She was a housewife, loved to garden and was of the Catholic faith.
Erika leaves behind a loving family, her husband of 34 years, James L. Moore; two daughters, Ruth Porter of Ashland, Patty (Kevin) Hodges of Paradise, Calif.; five stepchildren, Jim Moore, Janet Vanhoose, Teresa Stone, Libby Clark and Jennifer Moore; a brother, Horst Goris of Berlin; two sisters-in-law, Hildergard Goris of Sun City, Calif., Shelby (Bob) Riddle of Catlettsburg; a brother-in-law, Earl (Sally) Moore of Waverly, Ohio; five grandchildren, Erika Layne, Angie (Lee) Walters, Jeff (Sharon) Schenker, Brandy Porter and Corey Moore; 10 stepgrandchildren, Jimmie, Kimberly, Bub, Stephanie, Bubba, Tonya, Mark, Benji, Justin and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Sophia Schenker, Kaleb Layne, Bryan Schenker, Darrian Schenker, Brandon Porter, Trevin Schenker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Heinz Goris; and a grandson, Brandon Moore.
A funeral service for Erika will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. The Rev. Marc Ferrell will offer words of comfort and reassurance. Final rest to follow at Moore Family Cemetery on Durbin in Catlettsburg.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Brayden Davis - 2008-2008
Brayden Michael Davis, 3 weeks old, of Patriot, Ohio, died Thursday at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., following a short illness. He was born July 29, 2008, in Huntington, the son of Lance Davis of Willow Wood and Rachel Dawn Thompson of Patriot.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Don Maynard.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother Broedy Don Davis; maternal grandmother, Kim Maynard Crawford of Patriot; maternal grandfather, Michael Thompson of Grayson; maternal great-grandparents, Bonnie and Ken Thompson of Louisa; maternal grandmother, Charlene Mannon of Willow Wood; maternal great-grandmother, Odella Myanard of Louisa.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Maynard Cemetery in Louisa.
Young Funeral Home in Louisa is in charge of the arrangements.
Edgar Caldwell
Edgar A. Caldwell, 85, of Ashland, formerly of Catlettsburg, died Sunday at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Arrangements are pending at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg.
Alice Leadingham
Alice Leadingham, 95, of Bruin died Sunday.
Arrangements are pending at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson.
Donald Murdock - 1937-2008
Donald G. Murdock, 70, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Lawrence County, Ohio.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Perkins Ridge Cemetery on Greasy Ridge.
Visitation will be after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Maclin H. Fearing
Maclin H. Fearing, 80, of Cincinnati died July 30, 2008.
He was born in 1928 in Ashland.
His wife, Kathleen Cotten Fearing, survives.
Burial was in Brookside Cemetery in West Chester, Ohio.
