Harold W. Greer - 1911-2008
Harold W. Greer, 96, of Dunedin, Fla., formerly of Westwood, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, following an extended illness.
Harold was born Oct. 13, 1911, in Ashland, a son of the late Willett Henry Greer and Florence Henry Greer. He was a retired Steelworker at Armco Steel and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Hanshaw Greer; an infant son, Harold W. Greer Jr.; three sisters, Gladys Ballman, Carrie Hickman and Maryellen Kersey; and two brothers, Pete Greer and William Greer.
He is survived by a son, William H. “Buddy” Greer and his wife, Mary, of Dunedin; two grandchildren, Mark Greer and Anne Robin Greer; a great-grandson, Nicholas “Nicky” Greer; and a sister, Katherine Ferguson of Fredericksburg, Va.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Westwood Christian Church by Dean Jackson, minister. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood. Military services will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations in Harold's memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Beverly Schrader - 1948-2008
Beverly Schrader, 60, loving wife of Jack L. Schrader for 38 years, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born July 11, 1948, in Pikeville, the daughter of Ann Coates Nichols of Pikeville and the late E.H. Nichols Jr.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell and retired from the Russell Independent School District. She was a member of the Russell Education Association, the Kentucky Education Association, the National Education Association, the Kentucky Science Teachers Association and the National Science Teachers Association. She was a sponsor of the Beta Club and the coach of several state champion Science Olympiad teams. She also taught at Fort Thomas Highlands and Pendleton County high schools in northern Kentucky.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and husband, include a son, Michael David (Lindsey) Schrader of Arlington, Mass.; a daughter, Allison Schrader (Jon) Totty of Lexington; a brother, David Nichols of Elkhorn City; three sisters, Nancy and Larry Jones of Waynesboro, Va., Cathy and Mike Francisco of Pikeville and Kim and Walt Smith of Ona, W.Va.; and a granddaughter, Abigail Anne Schrader.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Russell by the Rev. Kenneth Gowin and Dr. Christopher Johnson. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.
Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of arrangements.

Emily Workman - 1919-2008
Emily Adkins Workman of Ashland passed away Friday.
She was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Wayne County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Sebastian and Ada Berry Adkins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis “Bud” Alton Workman, on March 24, 1991.
Emily was a homemaker and a member of and a Sunday school teacher at New Life Fellowship Church in Russell.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Jan Workman of Russell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lenora “Sis” and Michael O’Neil of Ashland and Catherine and Rick Parker of Fort Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Jack Edwards, minister. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Alyssa Dawn Corliss, 1-month-old daughter of Elon James “'E.J.” and Tabitha Good Corliss, died Thursday at her residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Erika Goris Moore, 79, of Catlettsburg, died Friday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born July 18, 1929, in Berlin, Germany.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Moore Family Cemetery at Durbin.

Sgt. 1st Class Norman Middleton - 1966-2008
Sgt. 1st Class Norman Gene Middleton, 42, of Wallingford, died Friday in Fleming County.
He was born March 27, 1966.
