Mary Margaret Day Lanzo - 1924-2008

Mary Margaret Day Lanzo, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, 2008, in Unity Health Care Center in Shawnee, Okla.

Mrs. Lanzo was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Ashland, a daughter of the late John N. and Beulah Mae Lane Day.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Lanzo, in 1998, and two brothers, Mervil E. Day and Charles M. Day.

She was a retired quality control inspector with Westinghouse.

Surviving are a son, John P. Lanzo Jr. of Tecumseh, Okla.; and a sister, Gertrude Prater of Ashland.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Charles Bush. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Paula Farris - 1968-2008

Paula Farris, 40, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday at her residence.

She was born March 17, 1968, in Paintsville, Ky., to George Farris, who survives and resides in Blaine, Ky., and Virginia Carter Perkey, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, George Michael Farris; her maternal grandparents, Harvey Paul Carter and Merle Burchett Carter; her paternal grandparents, Menifee Farris and Annie Farris; and two half brothers, George and Tracie Farris.

She was attending her last year of the nursing program at ACTC. Paula was a dedicated nursing student and mother. She was a home health aide in Ashland.

She is survived by three minor sons, Arron Watkins, Jacob Beam and Daniel Beam, all at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and James Bowling of South Point, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael David II and Malissa Perkey of Coal Grove, Ohio; her stepfather, Michael David Perkey Sr. of Chesapeake, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Farris of Kitts Hill, Ohio; six nieces and four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the children may be made at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Private services will be at a later date.



Inas Hart Huff - 1927-2008

Inas Hart Huff, 80, of Ashland, wife of 63 years of Emmett Huff Jr., died peacefully Tuesday morning at her home after a sudden illness.

Inas was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Henry and Blanche Hatfield Hart.

She was a faithful member of Hoods Creek Enterprise United Baptist Church and loved her church family as her own.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was a sister, Barbara Hardy.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, David Huff and wife Linda of Ashland; a brother, Silas Hart of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Hazel Stephens and Mary Opal Smith, both of Indiana; three grandchildren, Julia Huff Smith and husband Bob of Pikeville, Ky., Mark David Huff and wife Anita of West Union, Ohio, and Gary Lee Huff of Ashland, Ky.; and a great-granddaughter, Dharla Marie Huff.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Brother Russell Griffith and Brother Ennis Lewis. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lillian Mae Smith - 1925-2008

Lillian Mae Smith, 83, of Wurtland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

She was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Scioto County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Beverly Joseph and Nellie Easter Wiget. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Smith Jr.

Lillian was a homemaker and longstanding member of Chinns Branch Baptist Church in Wurtland. She joined the church in 1965 and held multiple positions over the decades, most notably music director and church pianist. Since joining the church, she was the sole president of the Women’s Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Butch) Neal of Wurtland; three sons, Roger (Lydia) Smith of Greenup, Ky., Randall (Rose Ann) Smith of Mountainair, N.M., and Tony (Carol) Smith of Wurtland; two sisters, Elsie Royster of Lloyd, Ky., and Nan Joy Cox of Columbus, N.C.; a brother, Beverly Joseph Wiget of Lafayette, La.; five grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Neal, Jennifer (David) Ehlers and Shawn, Zachery and Seth Smith; four great-grandchildren, Nate and Tori Ehlers and Camron and Tyler Neal; a niece, Lisa (Rory) Hamm; and two nephews, Jerry and Kevin Barber.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Michael Hambrick and the Rev. Denver Woods. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Mark Kincaid - 1964-2008

William Mark Kincaid, 43, of Sioux Falls, S.D., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Kincaid was born Aug. 9, 1964, in Louisville, Ky., a son of Kenneth and Mildred K. Bates of Greenup, Ky., and the late William I. Kincaid.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Little Sandy Baptist Church in Greenup by Pastor Wayne Stephenson.

Friends may call after noon at the church.

Lawrence T. Pope - 1920-2008

Mr. Lawrence T. Pope, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.

He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Leon, Ky., a son of the late Watt and Tony Pope.

Lawrence attended the Leon Church of Christ and served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was retired after 18 years with the C&O Railroad and 29 years with the painters’ union.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by a son, Larry T. Pope; three brothers, Frank Pope, Paul Pope and Harry Pope; and five sisters, Eva Perry, Grace McBriar, Ester Watts, Virginia Kitchen and Lillian Sammons.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Pauline Littleton Pope; a son and daughter-in-law, L.T. Pope and Martha of Grayson; two grandsons, Larry Pope and wife Angel of Springfield, Ohio, and Dean Stotler and wife Sherry of Indianapolis, Ind.; a granddaughter, Patsy Chaffins and her husband, Mark, of Catlettsburg, Ky.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Brothers Lewis Davis and Roger Rankin. Burial will be in the Pope Cemetery on Steele Road in Grayson, with military honors by the East Carter JROTC.

Johney Russell Eldridge - 1940-2008

Johney Russell Eldridge, 68, of Sandy Hook, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Ky.

Johney was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Elliott County, the son of the late Russell and Mary Terry Eldridge. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters Marion Terry, Irene Moore, Tennyson Eldridge, Tony Eldridge, Fannie Pearl Moore and Benny and Edna Eldridge.

Johney retired recently as a forest ranger after serving 40 years and four months.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Waggoner Eldridge; his brothers and sisters, Walter Charles Eldridge, Roy Eldridge, Martha Matelaino and Alice Waggoner, all of Sandy Hook, Wanda Porter of Webbville, Ky., and Tim Eldridge and Brian Eldridge, both of Sandy Hook; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook.

Ernest O’Bryan - 1920-2008

Ernest A. O’Bryan, 88, of Ashland, died Wednesday in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.

He was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Boyd County.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Ruby Nickell O’Bryan and Virginia Green Hogg.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Anna Jewel Rose, 68, formerly of Olive Hill, died Monday in Shelby, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 11, 1940.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
