Constance Ford - 1918-2008
Constance Lavonne Ford, 89, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
She was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ray E. and Esther Graf Penick.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a retired school teacher for the Boyd County, Garrard County and Ashland City School systems. Her memberships include Colonial Dames, DAR, Three Arts Club, Red Hat Society, and Retired Teachers Association. She was a former board member of Friends of Hospice, a volunteer for King’s Daughters Medical Center, a docent at Highlands Museum, member of First Presbyterian Church Ladies Circle, representative to Kentucky Synod Presbyterian Church and a representative to the Lexington Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Forrest S. Ford in 1989, who was a former minister at Normal Presbyterian Church; one sister, Helen Johnson; two brothers, Ralph and Landis Penick; and a grandson, Hunter Long.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Jerald M. Ford and his wife, Judy of Ashland, Dennis E. Ford of Camp Nelson, Ky., and Byron S. Ford and his wife, Donna of Catlettsburg; one daughter, Yvonne Long and her husband, Wayland of Tullahoma, Tenn.; one sister, Thora Forrester of Manassas, Va.; three brothers, Dr. Richard Q. Penick of Jensen Beach, Fla., Frank Penick of Louisville, Ky., and Jack Penick of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Dr. Richard Forrest Ford of Ashland, Elliott Cammle of Lancaster, Ky., Christy E. Ford of Ashland, JoEl English Ford of Lancaster, Alexis Long of New Brunswick, N.J., Kelley Ford of Berea, Ky., Allison Ford of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Matthew Ford of Catlettsburg; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services are scheduled with the Rev. James Brazell officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
A memorial service honoring Constance’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101, or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Billy Thacker - 1979-2008
William J. “Billy” Thacker of Ellington Run, Ashland, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2008 at his residence.
Billy was just 29 years of age, the son of Joe Ed and Betty Arnold Thacker, born Aug. 5, 1979 in Ashland, Ky.
He was a graduate of Boyd County High School Class of 1998, attended Ashland Community College and Morehead State University, was a self-employed farmer, an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and a member of Meade Station Church of God.
Besides his loving parents, Billy leaves behind a sister, Angela Thacker of Ashland; his paternal grandparents, Mamaw and Papaw, Jody and Joe Thacker of Durbin; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, all to mourn Billy’s untimely passing.
In memorial and remembrance, a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Meade Station Church of God on Marsh Hill Drive in Ashland. Passages of consolation will be offered by Pastor Robert Jordan. Billy will be laid to rest in the Thacker Family Cemetery in Durbin.
Those wishing to call on the Thacker family may do so from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.

Jennie Chattin Mulcahy - 1932-2008
Jennie Chattin Mulcahy, 75, of Henderson, Ky., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 in Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson.
Born Jennie Lee Chattin in Ashland on Oct. 25, 1932, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Chattin, she graduated from Ashland High School and Eastern Kentucky University and later earned a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota.
She was a loving teacher to many students at Eastern High School in Louisville, Ky., University of Kansas, University of South Dakota, Eastern Kentucky University and South Junior High School in Henderson. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bob Mulcahy; one son, Rob Mulcahy and his wife, Donna of Henderson; one daughter, Emily Brohm and her husband, Mike of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Shelbi, Jacob, and Sarah Mulcahy and Matt, Jenilee, Ryan and Jordan Brohm; and one great-granddaughter, Carlee Ann Brohm.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. (CST) Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Henderson. Dr. Beth Macke will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
She would not have wanted any formal obituary, only that she loved her family, friends and students.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul’s Capital Campaign, St. Anthony’s Hospice or Alzheimer’s Research.

Mark Keith Stone Sr. - 1952-2008
Teresa Ann Stone - 1952-2008
Mark Keith Stone Sr., 55, and Teresa Ann Stone, 56, both of Ashland, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.
They are survived by two sons, Keith Stone and his wife, Holly of Ashland and Clifford Martin Stone of Salem, Va.; and one daughter, Sarah Stone of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mark was born Sept. 29, 1952, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of the late Clifford Sr. and Gladys Chandler Stone. He was the president of Air Equipment Sales and Service, a member of Elks Lodge No. 350 BPOE, Greenup Masonic Lodge No. 89, El Hasa Shrine, and Ashland Regional Airport Board of Directors. He was a pilot, regional director for the Association of Independent Compressor Distributors and a member of the Ashland Commandery No. 81. He also attended Bridges Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ron Stone Sr. and Carlos “Doc” Stone.
Surviving, in addition to his children, are one sister, Janet Cannon of California and two brothers, Clifford Stone Jr. and Elmer Jack Stone, both of South Shore, Ky.
Teresa was born July 10, 1952, in Grayson, Ky., the daughter of James Womack and his wife, Minnie of Grayson and the late Dorothy Rae Waggoner Womack. She was a retired teacher for the Raceland School system with 28 years of service. She was the financial officer at Air Equipment Sales and Service, a volunteer for the Festival of Trees at the Paramount Arts Center, where she was actively involved in all activities at Raceland and Worthington School systems. As a state officer for FBLA, she established the banking program for the Raceland and Worthington Schools. She was a Key Club sponsor, active in Kiwanis, and took students to state and national competition in FBLA. She also attended Bridges Christian Church.
In addition to her mother and children, she is survived by a brother, James “Chip” Womack of Ashland.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at Bridges Christian Church with Mark McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Fred G. Lynch
Fred G. Lynch, age 76, passed away Aug. 17, 2008.
He was born in Martin, Ky., and lived in Akron, Ohio, since 1956. He retired from the United Rubber Workers International after 25 years of service and was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Lynch; loving wife, Betsy; brother, Jack Lynch and sister, Elizabeth Howard.
He is survived by his brothers, Leo (Betty) of Russell, Ky., and Tom (Kim) of Ashland, Ky.; nieces and nephews, Kathy Taylor, Megan and Randy Lynch, Robin Kimberlain, Joey Lynch, Beth Burton, Bill, Bob, Dale, David and Larry Lynch, Sandra Cremeans and Jack Howard; special friends, Toni and Norm Ross, Lorene Smith and Lisa and John, Frank and Linda Aiello and John Lee; and special nieces and nephews, Lisa, Andrea, Gina and Jon.
Calling hours will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home on Third Street, one block north of Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martha Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Nola Cox Colvin, 77, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Lawrence County.
Her husband, Foster V. Colvin Jr., died in 2004.
