Russell Bellomy (1937-2008)
Russell L. “Rusty” Bellomy, 71, went home to be with his Lord due to a tragic accident on Friday, July 18, 2008, in Ashland.
Rusty was born in Boyd County on June 29, 1937, a son of the late Bennie and Louise Estep Bellomy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Wilbur and Dru Wheatley, and a brother, Paul Bellomy.
He was an active member of Ashland First Church of the Nazarene. For 29 years, his “heart and soul” were dedicated to Eastern Kentucky Work & Witness, participating in 31 work and witness trips across the United States and around the world. He served as director for Eastern Kentucky Work & Witness for 11 years. Rusty also served on the advisory board for the Eastern Kentucky District Church of the Nazarene, the Eastern Kentucky District Nazarene Missions International Council, the Eastern Kentucky District Mount Hope Camp Board and was a trustee at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He was a Kentucky colonel and a retired employee of AK Steel, with 39 years of service.
Rusty is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Jane Wheatley Bellomy; a son, Ronald (Diane) Bellomy of Fremont, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Thirlon of Clermont, Fla., and Rose (Randy) Callaway of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer) Brackman, Russell Thirlon, Aaron (Maranda) Brackman, Ronnie Bellomy, Lauren Bellomy, Kristoffer Callaway and Logan Bellomy; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Brackman, Wyatt Brackman and Isabella Brackman; 10 brothers and sisters, Richard (Phyllis) Bellomy of Fayetteville, N.C., Tom (Betty) Bellomy of Ashland, Bill (Doris) Bellomy of Shiloh, Ohio, Jim (Belvia) Bellomy of Winnsboro, S.C., Darrell (Lois) Bellomy of Mesa, Ariz., Ray (Sharon) Bellomy of Bourbonnais, Ill., Lanis Restelli of Mansfield, Ohio, Betty (Charles) Fields of Ashland, Kay (Delbert) Vance of Wheelersburg and Roberta (Kenny) Musser of Ashland; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel.
A service of celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ashland First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Harold Berrian, Dr. Steve Ruby and the Rev. James Webster officiating.
Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Leona Brown (1922-2008)
Leona M. Brown, 85, of South Shore, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was born in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, on Aug. 11, 1922, the daughter of the late Frank Mathews and Ellen Mathews Fraley. She was the wife of Robert Brown, who passed away Aug. 10, 1992. She was a member of Mount Zion Apostolic Church in West Portsmouth and also was a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby R. Brown and Keith A. Brown; four sisters, Gracie Mathews, Mary Mathews, Mellie Traylor and Ida Mathews; and three brothers, Ruben Mathews, Freddy Mathews and Hershel Mathews.
Survivors include four sons, Daniel E. Brown of South Shore, Delmas E. Brown of Hampshire, Tenn. and Teddy R. Brown and Roy L. Brown, both of Oldtown; three daughters, Janice Mangus of Belleville, Mich., Linda Slaughter of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Lisa Potter of Maloneton; a brother, Ellis Mathews of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Apostolic Church in West Portsmouth by the Rev. Edward Messer.
Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Oldtown.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore and after noon Tuesday at the church.
Nona Skaggs (1935-2008)
Nona Ellen Lewis Skaggs, 92, of Isonville, passed away Sunday morning, July 20, 2008, at her home.
Our precious mother and grandmother was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Isonville, the daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Gilliam Lewis. She was married to her beloved husband, John Skaggs, on April 10, 1935, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1965.
To this union was born six children. Marshall Skaggs preceded her in death on May 21, 1994. Her surviving children are Alice and Wilbur Ison, Kenneth and Sharon Skaggs, Mitchel and Judy Skaggs, Roger and Mary Skaggs and Gail and Allan Ison, all of Isonville; a daughter-in-law, Bessie Skaggs of Grayson; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Tina Ison; a great-great-grandchild, Hunter Ison; five brothers, Thurman Lewis, Troy Lewis, Vern Lewis, Erma Lewis and Carson Lewis; and four sisters, Audrey Lewis, Arla Adkins, Flona Hutchinson and Bessie Patrick.
Nona was a wonderful homemaker and worked as a cook for several years at the Isonville Elementary School. She was a hard-working Christian mother and always looked out and cared for her family. She enjoyed making her home a welcome place for her many family and friends. She was a great cook and enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening. She was a member of Fannin Chapel United Baptist Church at Beech Grove and was baptized by J.W. Brickey on March 10, 1932. Her love for God and family was evident to all those who knew her.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by ministers Lowel Ferguson, Tim Porter and Leo Ison. The obituary reading will be by Carson Skaggs, prayer by Kenneth Skaggs and songs by Allan and Gail Ison and family, Debbie Salyers and Barbie and Daniel Hale. Burial will be in Skaggs Family Cemetery in Isonville.
Pallbearers will be Leo Ison, Rickey Skaggs, Carson Skaggs, Kenny Skaggs, Jim Skaggs and Casey Skaggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Ison, Wilburn Ison, Bill Patrick, Myrtle Connolly and other family who provided loving care for our mother.
Richard Bergstrom
Richard Stephen Bergstrom, 69, of Frenchburg, died Friday at his residence.
His wife, Latrica Bergstrom, survives.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg.
Alta Burgett
Alta Howard Burgett, 81, of Richmond, formerly of Morgan County, died Friday at his residence.
His wife, Gardner Burgett, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Millard Cemetery in Bloomington.
Kenneth Catron Sr.
Kenneth Earl Catron Sr., 82, of Franklin, died Wednesday at his residence.
His wife, Martha Doloris Catron, survives.
Graveside services with military rites will be at 2 p.m. today at Catron Cemetery.

Ruby Easterling (1909-2008)
Ruby Easterling, 98, of West Liberty, died Saturday at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born Nov. 5, 1909, at Farmers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery at Blairs Mill.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Jewell Skaggs (1938-2008)
Jewell Dean Blankenship Skaggs, 69, of Sandy Hook, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 2, 1938.
Her husband, Charles Elliott Skaggs, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Skaggs Cemetery in Elliott County.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today and all day Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jeffrey Martin (1964-2008)
Jeffrey Paul Martin, 44, of Morehead, died Sunday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born March 25, 1964, in Fort Riley, Kan.
There will be no services or visitation.
Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is in charge of arrangements.
Edith May (1916-2008)
Edith Looney May, 91, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday in Riverview Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 25, 1916.
Her husband, Robert Les May, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg. Burial will be in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Belfry.
