Barbara Wessell - 1952-2008
Barbara Wessell, 56, of Ashland, died Saturday evening in Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born June 22, 1952, in Ashland, a daughter of the late William S. Wessell and Betty Dartey Wessell Spangler; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wessell.
Surviving are one son, Phillip Wessell of Ashland, Ky.; one daughter, Teri Jo Spangler of Ashland; three brothers, Tommy Wessell of Ashland, Bill Wessell Jr. of Ohio and Keith Wessell of South Carolina; one sister, Sandy (James) Adams of Ashland; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be at noon today at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Todd Mills and the Rev. Richard Dartey. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Doris Stephens Morrison - 1921-2008
Doris Stephens Morrison, age 86, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Ike and Myrtle Hicks Stephens.
She was a secretary with Ben Williams Supply Co. and co-founder of Court of Three Sisters. She was founder of Diabetes Association Horse Show in Boyd County, Daughters of Kings and a member of Holy Family Church.
Surviving are one son, Michael C. Stephens of Ashland; one daughter, Eddie Sheila Stephens Lambert of Ashland; three grandchildren, Michael Martin Stephens and Kerstin K. Lemaster, both of Ashland and Ike Matthew Lambert of Fort Wright, Ky.; one great-grandchild, Emily Morgan Lemaster; a brother, Clarence Edwin Stephens of Ashland; two sisters, Josephine Robinett of Slidell, La., and Phyllis Bennett of Ashland; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Holy Family Church in Ashland by the Rev. Joseph Koury. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.

Burnice J. Gearheart - 1925-2008
Burnice J. Gearheart, age 83, of Ashland, Ky., died July 13, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born June 4, 1925, in Floyd County, Ky., a son of the late Benjamin and Frona Dyer Gearheart.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Howard and Noma Irwin.
He retired from the Floyd County Board of Education where he had worked as a teacher and principal. He was a WWII Army and Navy veteran and an avid reader and gardener.
Surviving are his loving wife, Edna Martin Gearheart of Ashland; a son, Galen Gearheart and wife, Kathy of Ashland; sisters, Wilma Combs, Erma Prater, Loretta Parker, Eleanor Davis, Iola Little, and Sheila Derossett; and two grandchildren, Ryan Blake Gearheart and Alexis Kay Gearheart.
A private service will be Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Judy Jenkins - 1952-2008
Judy Jenkins, age 55, of Proctorville, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Sunday, June 13, 2008 at home.
She was born Dec. 22, 1952, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of Phyllis Jean Hineman of Westwood, Ky., and the late Benny F. Blevins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Miller.
She was a retired division director with March of Dimes for 20 years.
Additional survivors include a special friend, Vickie S. Musick of Westwood; three sons, Dr. Bob Miller and companion, Steve Johnson of Proctorville, Gregory Scott Miller and companion, Patrick Blankenship of Huntington, W.Va., and Joseph (Benjy) Jenkins and wife Dana Jenkins of Flatwoods, Ky.; and one grandson, Joseph B. Jenkins Jr.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland by Kit Jenkins.

Charles T. McDonald - 1938-2008
Charles T. McDonald, 70, of Ashland, Ky., died July 14, 2008 at his residence.
He was born April 10, 1938, in Ashland, a son of the late Charles Thomas and Anna Belle Clark McDonald.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick McDonald.
He was a retired turn foreman with Armco Steel with 30 years of service and volunteered with AARP Taxes. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ashland where he served as treasurer for 30 years.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon Horgen McDonald of Ashland; two sons, Mark McDonald and wife, Heather of Richmond, Ky., and David McDonald and wife, Darlene of Ashland; a daughter, Jennifer Hatfield and husband, Ed of Ashland; a brother, Samuel McDonald of Ashland; a sister, Leona Epperson of Ashland; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ashland by Pastor Mark Kloha.
Services are under the direction of Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Glenna Jean McDowell Runyon - 1937-2008
Glenna Jean McDowell Runyon, 71, of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the home of her daughter, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Runyon was born March 18, 1937, in Ashland, the daughter of the late James McDowell and Ella Mae Lee Stacey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Runyon Sr. in 1997; a daughter, Charlotte Elliott and a great-granddaughter, Tiarra Nicole Phillips.
She was a devoted housewife and mother her entire life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Runyon was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son, John Jr. (Betty) Runyon of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, Jeanie (Paul) Johnson of Ashland; two brothers, Ronnie McDowell of Ashland and Ray McDowell of Texas; one sister, Barbara Conley of Ashland; three grandchildren, Melissa Plumley, Willis Phillips and John Elliott Jr.; several stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Alissa and Meah Phillips and Johnathan Elliott; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Matthew Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Elizabeth “Libby” Feeney - 1963-2008
Elizabeth “Libby” Barrett Feeney, surrounded by her family, passed away early Monday morning, July 14, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Libby was 45 years of age, born April 10, 1963, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Marion and Betty Lou Dalton Barrett. Her husband, Harold Feeney, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Sadly left behind are her loving family, two brothers, Daniel Paul Barrett and his companion, Jamie Taylor of Catlettsburg and Billy Barrett and his wife, Cheryl of Ashland; two sisters, Linda King and her husband, George of Waverly, Ohio, and Frances Graves and her husband, Charles of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Teresa Barrett of Ashland; a brother-in-law, Bob Meeks of Catlettsburg; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Charles Barrett and Marion Barrett Jr.; and two sisters, Joyce Ann Short and Carolyn Sue Meeks.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Pastor Rob Hale will offer words of comfort and inspiration.

Clifford Griffith - 1937-2008
Clifford Griffith, 71, of Rush, Ky., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 13, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center with his family at his side.
He was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Wharton, W.Va., a son of the late George Inest and Claris Thelma Jones Griffith.
He worked as a Volkswagen mechanic for 30 years and then retired from Rental Uniforms/Cintas after 25 years of service. He was a former coach for Boyd County American Little League baseball, Cannonsburg Elementary basketball, Optimists girls basketball and was an avid U.K. fan. He was a member of the Garner Missionary Baptist Church and was a Kentucky colonel. He graduated from Boyd County High School in 1956.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Lou Griffith and Helen Irene Tiller.
His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Donna Jean Riggs Griffith; three sons, Russ (Nikki) Griffith of Cannonsburg, Ky., Sam (Tammy) Griffith of Rush and Aaron (Teresa) Griffith of Crane Hill, Ala.; one brother, George Elmer Griffith of Rush; grandchildren, Russell Griffith, Seth Patton, Jake Griffith, Casey Griffith, Wade Griffith and Heather (Chris Ruggles); three great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Samantha and Gracie Ruggles; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Gary Arrington and Dicky Tiller, ministers. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. His grandsons will serve as the pallbearers.

Foster Mack Shelton - 1924-2008
Foster Mack Shelton, age 83, of Huntsville, Tenn., passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008 in U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Cowan, Tenn., to the late George Dewey Shelton and Emeline Hughes Shelton. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 670.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Sexton Shelton and a sister, Nancy Lee Shelton.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Pernie Morrell Shelton and children, Dr. Ronnie Mack Shelton (Carolyn) of Ashland, Vera Hoyle (Michael) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Rickey Shelton of Parma, Ohio, Roger Shelton of Cleveland, Ohio, and Roderick Shelton (Charlotte) of Huntsville. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Jeff Shelton, John Shelton, Michael John Hoyle, Jacqueline Hoyle, Jennifer Shelton, Emily Shelton, Kathleen Shelton, Kevin Shelton and Vera Marie Jorgenson.
Visitation and services were conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Four Oaks Funeral Chapel in Huntsville. Internment was in Campbell Memorial Gardens in LaFollette, Tenn.
