Mary D. Fearing (1934-2008)

Mary Delores Fearing, 73, passed away at her home in Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday, June 25.

She was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Springfield, Ky., the daughter of Geneva and the late Hollis Settles of Springfield. She was married to Robert B. Fearing of Ashland, who died in 2001. She was a retired nurse who loved to spend time with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a son, Michael Fearing, and his wife, Katherine, of Jacksonville; a daughter, Michelle Pharr and her husband, David, of Nags Head, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Sara Fearing, Matthew Fearing, Caroline Pharr and Jonathan Pharr.

Visitation and a memorial service will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Carey & Sons Funeral Home in Springfield, followed by a graveside service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.



John D. White (1929-2008)

John D. White, 78, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Hewett, W.Va., a son of the late Robert F. and Carrie Epling White.

His wife, Glema K. White, preceded him in death.

He was a retired shop foreman with Ruth Contracting Co. He was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR, and was a former race car driver.

Surviving are three sons, John Douglas White Jr. of Richmond, Ky., and Larry Wayne White and Richard Dale White, both of Ashland; a daughter, Kathy Ann White of Ashland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.



Louise Spurlock (1923-2008)

Louise Tomlin Shockey Spurlock, 84, of Catlettsburg, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mrs. Spurlock was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Eliza Johnson Tomlin. Louise is preceded by her first husband of 23 years, George W. Shockey, and her second husband of 28 years, Homer T. Spurlock. She was a retired seamstress at Corbin Industries and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving is her loving family: two daughters, Hazel Wells and Sharon White and her husband, Lawrence, both of Catlettsburg; a stepdaughter, Janet Spurlock of Oneida, N.Y.; a brother, Wilbur Tomlin and his wife, Denise, of Ashland; a sister, Mary Stevens of Pedro, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, James Tomlin and Ernest Tomlin, and seven sisters, Vina Sue Dalton, Patricia Peita, Betty Sparkman, Dorothy Coffee, Francis Vanover, Haley Stirr and Mary Diamond.

A funeral service in memory of Louise Spurlock will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Larry Frazier will offer words of comfort and reassurance. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Those wishing to call on the Spurlock family may do so from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Patricia Creamer Lunsford (1932-2008)

Patricia Creamer Lunsford, 76, of Greenup, Ky., and Ruskin, Fla., died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born March 16, 1932, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Gerard Matthew and Pearl Opal Ballangee Creamer.

She was a retired clerk in the accounting department for Owens Illinois Glass Co. with 31 years of service and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Creamer.

She is survived by her husband, Billy R. Lunsford; three daughters, Suzan Hill of Greenup, Lisa Haymond and her husband, Matthew, of Russell, Ky., and Kimberly Conley and her husband, Patrick, of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a son, Michael Scott Lunsford (Suzanne Myers) of Lexington, Ky.; s brother, Raymond C. Creamer of Pickerington, Ohio; six grandchildren, Andrea Sebastian and her husband, Brent, of Lexington, Michael Scott Lunsford II of Lexington, Katie Snyder and her husband, Rick, of Chesapeake, Ohio, Cole Conley of Catlettsburg, Julie Haymond of Russell and Robert Hill and his wife, Cheryl, of Huntington, W.Va.; and a great-grandchild, Elijah Matthew Haymond of Chesapeake.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church by the Rev. John Noe. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call an hour before services at the church.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Iva Mae Potter (1910-2008)

Iva Mae Potter, 97, of Main Street, Greenup, Ky., passed away Monday, June 30, 2008, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland, Ky.

Mrs. Potter was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Asa and Melvina Stapleton Reed.

She was a retired seamstress at the former Ashland Craft Shop and attended Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Archie Potter; a daughter, Genevieve Potter; two brothers, Fred Reed and Robert Reed; and seven sisters, Lora Raike, Zera Reed, Hazel Wagoner, Ruby Bell, Minnie Barrett, Blanche Kronk and Helen Moore.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Erickson of Marseilles, Ill., Jerry McBrayer of Raceland, Ky., and Shirley (James) Gearheart of Russell, Ky.; three sisters, Essie Bryant of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Jean Parsons of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Betty Royster of Lloyd, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2008, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Elders Willis Tolliver and Gary Blevins. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Greenup.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.



Sybil M. “Beatrice” Bailey (1921-2008)

Sybil M. “Beatrice” Bailey, 86, of Lebanon, Ohio, died June 29, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Bailey was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Cookeville, Tenn., a daughter of the late Robert and Allie Wilson Moscrip. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vern Bailey, two brothers and four sisters.

She was a retail clerk with Inland Steel Co., a member of Wheelwright Chapter 477, Order of Eastern Star, and a Methodist.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Baldwin of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Kerri Rae Felkley (Kenneth) and Raymond Keith Baldwin (Tammy); and six great-grandchildren, Cooy Stotts, Derek Stotts, Kayla Felkley, Marissa Felkley, Bryan Baldwin and Matthew Baldwin.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., by the Raymond K. Baldwin. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.



Kathleen Powell (1929-2008)

Kathleen (nee Jones) Powell, 78, beloved wife of Calvin E. Powell for almost 50 years, died June 29, 2008.

She was born March 31, 1929, in Carter City, Ky., to Watt A. and Betty B. Jones.

She was the loving mother of Kathy (Steve) Listo, Lorrie (Ken) Hays and Cindy (Ed) Phelps; dear mamaw of Corey Losekamp, Ashley Listo, Austyn Phelps, Traci Listo, Maddie Phelps, Landon Phelps and Logan Hays; and beloved twin sister of Lorene Bennett of Ashland, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ed and Willard Ratcliff, and survived by many nieces and nephews.

The deep love she gave her family will be missed.

Funeral service will be at noon Thursday at Strawser Funeral Home, 9503 Kenwood Road, Blue Ash, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Kathryn Irene Primm (1947-2008)

Kathryn Irene Primm, 61, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at her residence.

The Portsmouth, Ohio, native was born April 27, 1947, the daughter of the late Luther and Edith Rogers Roe. She is survived by her husband, Gary Norman Primm, whom she married on Dec. 10, 1966.

Mrs. Primm was a graduate of Ironton High School and attended Ashland Beauty College. She was a member of the Lawrence Furnace Homemakers Club and loved to crochet and bake. She was also a member of the Slabfork United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Fairchild.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stacie Primm of Clinton, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mike Kelley of Pedro; grandchildren Michael Austin Primm of Rush, Ky., Chris Jackson and Kailey Jackson, both of Clinton, and a grandson on the way, Harley Dale Kelley; and brothers and sisters-in-law John and Carol Roe of Ashland, Ky., and George “Butch” and Judy Roe of Trenton, Ga.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2008, at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, Ohio, by the Rev. Max Donahue. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.

George Mauk (1952-2008)

George Mauk, 56, of Ashland, died Friday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born Feb. 15, 1952, in Ashland.

His wife, Tretha Waugh Mauk, survives.

Joseph Alva Anderson, 81, of Firebrick, formerly of Waverly, Ohio, died Monday in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Donald King (1914-2008)

Donald King, 93, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died Saturday in Hendersonville, N.C.

He was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Greenup County.

His wife, Mary Lou Hart, died in 1997.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Harold Plummer (1922-2008)

Harold Plummer, 85, of Olive Hill, died Sunday in Carter Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.

He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Pleasant Hill, Ohio.

His wife, Madge Griffey Plummer, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Garvin Ridge Wesleyan Church in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Rita Kay Whitaker Hughes, 57, of Royalton, died Sunday at her residence.

She was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Magoffin County.
