He was born March 15, 1928 in Elliott County, Ky.
He was a retired schoolteacher and construction contractor and a member of the Sandy Hook Methodist Church and the VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Madge, (married in 1957) and three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Trish of Bradenton, Fla., Phil and Babs of Duluth, Ga., and Mark and Jennie of Union, Ky. He had five grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Ann Marie, Gus, Ben, Jessie and Kyle. Also surviving are his only living brother, Ruley Wagoner, and his wife, Rachel, several nieces and nephews and many friends who will sadly miss him.
After spending some time in the Army in Germany, Don came back to Sandy Hook and finished high school in 1948. He was a star basketball player and was called “Big Boone” since his nickname had been “Boone” since grade school. Tom Adkins, his coach, quoted Don as being the leading scorer in the state of Kentucky, and thought it was highly likely he was the second leading scorer in the U.S. as written in an article in the Courier Journal. He was an honor student and graduated from Berea College.
After he and Madge married, they taught school in Sandy Hook for several years before moving to Bradenton in 1967. They lived there 36 years.
Don enjoyed golfing, and his sons and grandsons followed in his footsteps. He also enjoyed playing cards, following Kentucky basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
After retirement, poor health and memories of family and friends back in Kentucky were the reasons for moving back to Elliott County in 2003.
God has blessed the Wagoner family in so many ways, and we have counted our blessings every day.
Don hopes all of you will continue your faith in God, and trust him every day. Someday I want to see you all again in Heaven. Keep these memories in your heart, and I will be just a thought away.
