Billie R. Thornton - 1945-2009
Billie R. Thornton, 63, of Raceland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mr. Thornton was born July 5, 1945, son of the late Charles and Rebecca Watts Thornton.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Thornton, Charles Thornton and Clarence Thornton.
He was a retired carman for CSX Railroad, a member of Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America, a United States Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 43 in Raceland.
Surviving are his loving wife, Cathy Green Thornton; one daughter, Tammy Thornton Holtzapfel of Ironton, Ohio; two brothers, Jim Thornton and Donnie Thornton, both of Raceland; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his beloved dog, Misty.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. today, June 27, 2009 at the American Legion Post 43 in Raceland.
Evans Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
David Stephen McGuire
David Stephen McGuire, 71, of Ironton, Ohio, died on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in Jo Lin Health Center.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl L. and Sara E. McGuire; two sisters, Helena McGuire and Ellen Patricia Davis; and three brothers, Father John J. McGuire, Leo McGuire and Carl Phillips McGuire.
Surviving are a brother, Pat McGuire; a sister, Mary Joan Meece; and nieces and nephews. David married Louise Peters Lynd in July, 1977 and became a stepfather to three stepsons and their wives, Steve and Tammie Lynd of South Point, Ohio, Bill and Sally Lynd of Ironton and David and Joyce Lynd of Ironton. David had four grandsons, Mason, Jordan and Chase Lynd of South Point, and Ryan Lynd of Ironton and a granddaughter, Amy Lynd Tye of Richmond, Ky. David had just retired from The Herald Dispatch after 38 years. He was a devoted newsman, husband and father. David was Irish through and through and loved Kentucky and Notre Dame ballgames. The light of his life was his handicapped grandson, Mason and David wrote many stories at the paper about Mason and his fight to live. David was a member of the St. Lawrence Church, Elks 350 of Ashland, Ky., and the Ashland Knights of Columbus.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at Woodland Cemetery with Father Tim Kozak, celebrant.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, 518 So. 6th Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638, where a prayer service will be held from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Diana Smith - 1958-2009
Diana E. Coleman Smith, 50, of Elgin AFB, Florida, died Wednesday in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 30, 1958, in Yeager, W.Va.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Sharen Owens - 1950-2009
Sharen Louise Cole Owens, 58, of Olive Hill, died Wednesday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born June 29, 1950, in Richland County, Ohio.
Her husband, Wilford Amos Owens, survives.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Owens Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Patricia Vanhorn - 1939-2009
Patricia Ann Vanhorn, 69, of Louisa, died Tuesday in Mount Vernon.
She was born Aug. 20,1939, in Louisa.
Her husband, James Edward Vanhorn, died in 2008.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Smiths Chapel in Louisa. Burial will be in Vanhorn Cemetery in Louisa.

Kathryn Lewis - 1933-2009
Kathryn Lewis, 76, died Thursday in West Liberty.
She was born March 28, 1933, in Index.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Grassy Lick Cemetery in Grassy Creek.

Denver Kaiser - 1965-2009
Denver Ray Kaiser, 44, of Ironton, died Thursday, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born June 10, 1965, in Lawrence County.
He is survived by his wife, Malinta Martin Kaiser.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pine Grove Cemetery.
There is no visitation.
