Mabel Chapman - 1931-2008
Mabel Louise Chapman, 76, of Ashland, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008 at her home following an extended illness.
Mabel was born Sept. 28,1931, in Boyd County, a daughter of the late Elmer and Bertha Ritchie Blankenship. She was retired from Tri-State Cleaning Co.
She is survived by one daughter, Bertha Eskew of Ashland; three sons, Henry Pack of Ashland, Joe Pack of Ashland and William Chapman and his wife Diane of Catlettsburg; seven grandchildren, Jessie Hedge, Jamie Pack, Kelly Pack, Jennifer Eskew, Sam Tolliver, Becky Pennington and Christy Melvin; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Mike Greene, Chaplain.
Friends may call from noon until time of service on Sunday.
Charlene Ellen Sturgill Nichols - 1948-2008
Charlene Ellen Sturgill Nichols, 59, of Flatwoods, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 19, 2008.
Mrs. Nichols was born June 24, 1948, in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of Irene Sanders Baker of Greenup, Ky., and the late Robert Sturgill. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Dave and Dosha Sturgill and Roscoe and Didama Sanders; one brother, Ronald Lee Sturgill; and her stepfather, Raymond Nichols.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a former nurse’s aide for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Keith Nichols of Flatwoods and James (Amy) Nichols of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Kathy (Jeff) Horn of Wurtland, Ky., and Joyce Woods and Mary (Carl) Smallwood, both of Greenup; one brother, Gary (Sheila) Nichols of Greenup; one sister-in-law, Nola Melvin Sturgill of Greenup; three grandchildren, Ronald (Lea) Nichols of Wurtland, Ky., Nicole Nichols of Flatwoods, and Easton Nichols of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, James Nichols of Flatwoods and Lily Nichols of Wurtland, Ky.; 10 nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Wayne Stephenson. Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery in Greenup.

Dorothy Burke Farmer - 1924-2008
Dorothy Burke Farmer, 83, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 19, 2008 in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Denton, Ky., a daughter of the late Herbert and Charity McWhorter Burke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Shelby Farmer; one brother, John Burke and two sisters, Pearl Swartzwelder and Hattie James.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson.
Her survivors include three sisters, Virginia and Paul Waggoner, Joyce and Clifford Berry and Nora and Tommy Keyes, all of Grayson; two brothers, Everett and Magdalene Burke and Donald Burke and Pamela, all of Grayson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Dr. James Girdwood. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Dorothy C. York - 1923-2008
Dorothy C. York of Knoxville, Tenn., wife of Delbert E. York, passed quietly from this earth on June 20, 2008. The world was blessed with her presence and she will be greatly missed.
Dorothy, the only daughter of the late Arlie Vinson and Mary Pigg Cain, was born June 21, 1923, in Louisa, Ky. She was a long time resident of Charleston, W.Va., where she raised five daughters. She is preceded by her daughter, Leah Jane York.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Delbert E. York of Knoxville and four daughters, Sarah York Young of Knoxville, Deborah York Fliegner of Maryville, Judith Cain York of Knoxville and Elizabeth York Eastwood of Charleston, W.Va. She leaves to cherish her memory 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy’s family was the center of her life. She loved camping, the beauty of nature, a good meal, and a great book. She lived her life fully to the very end. Her life honored God and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Habitat for Humanity. Interment will be at the Fairfield Glade Community Church in Fairfield Glade, Tenn. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23 at Middlebrook Pike UMC, 7234 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, Tenn.

Mildred V. Henery of Hot Springs, Ark., died Thursday.
She was born April 14, 1920, in Ashland.

Glenna Sharon Houck, 64, of Grayson, died Wednesday in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.
She was born Dec. 4, 1943, in Baltimore.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayson. Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Cemetery in Grayson.

She was born June 3, 1948.
