Wilma Lunsford - 1927-2008

Wilma L. Dyer Lunsford, 81, of Catlettsburg, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Lunsford was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Fallsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late Andy and Hettie Tomlin Dyer. Her husband of 33 years, Noah Lunsford, preceded her in 1979.

Also preceding her in death were a brother, Carl E. Dyer, and a sister, Mae Adams.

Even though Wilma did work out of her home, at G.C. Murphy, the Cinderella Dress Factory, Daniel’s Bakery and others, her heart has always been at home with her children. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Gate City and of the Christian faith.

Sadly left behind are her loving family: two sons, Bobby Lunsford and Glen Lunsford, both of Catlettsburg; three daughters, Patty Wilcox and husband Joe of Catlettsburg, Linda Elmer and husband Harry of Ashland and Debbie Lucas and husband Bill of Catlettsburg; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members who will miss her greatly.

A funeral service to honor Wilma Lunsford will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Brother Talmadge Badgett. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Those wishing to call on the Lunsford family may do so between the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



C. Dale Legg - 1941-2008

C. Dale Legg, 67, of Catlettsburg, Ky., devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died June 19, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mr. Legg was born Feb. 25, 1941, in Milton, W.Va., a son of Irene Harshbarger Legg of Akron, Ohio, and the late James A. Legg.

He retired from Ashland Oil after 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Marines veteran who served in the Cuban Crisis and Panama Uprising and was a member of Heritage Temple Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicki Lucas Wallace Legg of Catlettsburg; daughters Kimberly Woodard and husband Fred of Paducah, Ky., Deann Carr and husband Chris of Little Rock, Ark., and daughter/granddaughter Heather Legg of Catlettsburg; brother Danny Legg and wife Alma of Akron; half brother Gary Harshbarger and wife Geneva of Milton; sisters Gypsy Perroni and husband Jim of Akron, Connie D’Anjou and husband Claude of Goffstown, N.H., and Robin Carpenter of Akron; grandchildren Robbie Boggs, Jessica Carr and her brother, Michael Carr; great-grandchiildren Tristan Carr and Kaydin Legg; and a host of loving family and friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at Heritage Temple Church in Ashland, Ky., by the Rev. Jim Mitchell. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery in Milton, W.Va.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland.

Robert M. “Bob” Elliott - 1936-2008

Robert M. “Bob” Elliott, 71 of Greenup, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Elliott was born July 22, 1936, in Raceland, Ky., a son of the late Robert Lyle and Iva Martin Elliott.

He was a retired crane operator for AK Steel, attended the Wurtland Nazarene Church and was a member of the Greenup County Old Tractor and Machinery Club and a charter member of the Little Sandy VFW. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his loving wife, Mildred Taylor Elliott, and an aunt, Evelyn Nolen of Ashland, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Roger Bonzo, the Rev. Norman Potter and the Rev. Scott Hill. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky. Military graveside services will be by American Legion Post 276 of South Shore, Ky.

John William Willis - 1955-2008

John William Willis, 52, of Flatwoods, Ky., died June 19, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 10, 1955, in Flatwoods, a son of the late Charles and Madge Corbin Willis.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Willis, and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Charles Terry.

He was a member of First Apostolic Church in Flatwoods.

Surviving are his wife, Denise Ann Long Hicks Willis of Flatwoods; a brother, Joe Willis of Raceland, Ky.; sisters Nellie Huffman of Raceland, Norma (Donald) Lunsford, Leosa (Charles) Riffe and Ruth (Dennis) Pickett, all of Flatwoods, Alberta (Terry) Kirk of Boyd County, Ky., and Debra (AC) Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Willis of Raceland.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Apostolic Church on Lester Street in Flatwoods by Pastor Harold McKenzie.

Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of arrangements.



Helen Jean Triplett Calhoun - 1925-2008

Helen Jean Triplett Calhoun, 82, of Lexington, Ky., devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Helen was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Carter County, Ky., the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Houck Triplett.

A lifelong Christian, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Morehead, Ky., where she resided most of her life. She will be remembered for her many good deeds. One of the original “Super Moms,” she used her amazing organizational skills both in her work as a business manager at various companies as well as maintaining a lovely home and being an attentive mother.

Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill Calhoun of Lexington; a son, Charles “Larry” Calhoun of Lexington; daughters Susan Calhoun of Lexington and Becky (Rodney) Trimble of Georgetown; grandsons Adam Dickison of Ashland and Ryan Trimble and Jeremy Trimble, both of Georgetown; sisters Betty (Billy G.) Wellman of Ashland and Muriel (Bill) Farrissey of Sanford, N.C.; sisters-in-law Leone (Howard) James of Bedford Park, Ill., Hazel (Max) Calhoun of Grayson, Norma (Chan) Calhoun of South Shore, Opal (Lawrence) Calhoun of Grayson, Jean (Webb) Young of Ashland, Joy (Harold) Nolan of Grayson, Dolores (Glen) Calhoun of Dayton, Ohio, and Helen (W.W.) Triplett of Monaca, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Pat Beaty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four beloved brothers, Dennis (Nancy), Charles Jr. (Mary Alice), W.W. “Bill” and Elijah (Peggy) Triplett; and two sisters, Eloise (Thornton) Crawford and Burnetta (Nick) Tolar.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 22 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Ky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23 at the funeral home by the Rev. Don Mantooth, minister. Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Park in Grayson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

Lewis Sieweke

Lewis Sieweke, 55, of Danville, formerly of Ashland, died Thursday in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

His wife, Joyce Lowrey Sieweke, survives.

Charlene Ellen Sturgill Nichols, 59, of Flatwoods, died Thursday in Wurtland.

Dorothy Burke Farmer, 83, of Grayson, died Thursday in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Anna Adkins - 1947-2008

Anna Lorene Middleton Adkins, 60, of Olive Hill, died Thursday at her residence.

She was born Oct. 22, 1947.

Her husband, Raymond Lee Adkins, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Binion Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and after 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



Gilbert Powers - 1932-2008

Gilbert Lee Powers, 76, died Thursday in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.

He was born March 29, 1932, in Floyd County.

His wife, Neva Lee Spears Powers, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Van Lear Enterprise Baptist Church. Burial will be in Powers Family Cemetery in Van Lear.

Randy Taylor - 1955-2008

Randy Allen Taylor, 52, of Pedro, died Tuesday in Ironton.

He was born Nov. 27, 1955, in Ironton.

His wife, Sarah Kingery Taylor, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Aid Cemetery.
