Roberta Senters (1922-2009)
Roberta Stacy Senters, 86, of Ashland died Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Boyd County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 17, 1922, the daughter of the late Blaine and Minnie Ward Stacy. She was a member of Hoods Creek United Baptist Church for 54 years.
She also was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charlie R. Senters; a son killed in Vietnam, Charles D. Senters; a daughter, Linda Lou Senters; six sisters, Laura Stacy Cantrell, Edith Stacy Spriggs, Loucelle Stacy Childress, Imogene Stacy Kimbler, Helen Faye Stacy Fortner and Jo Ann Stacy Burdett; four brothers, Greenville Stacy, James Stacy, Thomas J. Stacy and Lawrence E. Stacy.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Karen Senters; a daughter and son-in-law, Avinell and David Castle of Ashland; a sister, Hazel Fannin of Huntington; and a brother, Burl Stacy of Dayton. She also leaves behind an extended family of cherished grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Elders Clarence Thompson Jr. and Doug Sloan. burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hoods Creek United Baptist Church.

Mabel Butler (1928-2009)
Mabel Butler, age 80, of Russell went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 19, 2009, after cardiac surgery in Lexington.
She was a loving and caring matriarch who will be know for her love and zeal for life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Samuel S. Butler.
Mrs. Butler was born on Sept. 14, 1928, in Floyd County, the daughter of Rady E. and Ethel Ousley Moore, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Moore.
She served as a licensed practical nurse in the Ashland community for over 30 years and retired from King’s Daughters Medical Center. She later served as a volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Ann Butler Chittum and her husband, Jack, of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Michael Seaton Butler and his wife, Karla of Cincinnati and Dr. Larry Stephen Butler and his wife, Vicki, of Lexington; four grandchildren, Traci Butler Long of Houston, Brandi Butler Harris of Lexington, Lauren Butler Millican of Louisville; and Nathan butler of Cincinnati; and six great-grandchildren, Audrey, Caleb and Maci Long of Houston, and Cooper and Porter Harris of Lexington, and Lucianne Millican of Louisville. She is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Andrew Moore of Parish, Fla., and Ernest Moore of Houston; and a sister-in-law, Joann Moore of Ashland.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Charles Stewart and Dr. Ronnie Mayes at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Ashland. A graveside service will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Cenral Avenue Chapel in Ashland. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Delores A. Pennington (1941-2009)
Delores A. Pennington, 68, of Catlettsburg, wife of Charles Woodrow Pennington, died Saturday morning at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. She was born January 25, 1941, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Cecil and Mae Marie Bowling McGranahan. She was a member of the Westwood Church of God.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Donald Edward Baker of Ashland and Daniel Lee Pennington of Flatwoods; two daughters, Candy Marie Moore of Arkansas and Teresa Diane Cumpton of Worthington; one sister, Phyllis McGranahan Cox of Ashland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and entombment will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.

Walter Potter (1927-2009)
Walter Eugene Potter, 81, of Flatwoods has gone to join his beloved wife of 60 years, Wanda Jean Mayse Potter, on Friday, June 19, 2009. He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of the late Elmer and Mary Kirk Potter. He worked for C&O Railroad and was a boilermakers helper. He was a member of Freedom Worship Church of God in Greenup.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Wetzel E. Potter; and two brothers, Russell Potter and Homer Potter.
He leaves behind two sons, Gary David (Donna) Potter of Flatwoods and Mark Allan Potter of Ironton; two daughters, Linda Sue Pauley (Bill) of Ashland and Roberta Ann Potter of Flatwoods; two sisters, Bernice Stephens of Ashland and Nola King of Wurtland; and two brothers, Herman Potter of South Shore and Kenneth F. Potter of Ashland; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be sadly missed.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by Dr. Tom Melvin and Pastor Kevin Whitt. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Linda S. Hunt (1948-2009)
Linda S. Hunt, 60, of Whetstone Road, Greenup, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 20, 1948, in Greenup, a daughter of the late Eddie Diller and Clayona Smith. She was the wife of Johnny Hunt, who survives. She was a teller for First and Peoples Bank and Trust Company in Russell.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Michael Scott Vance.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Marc (Erica) Vance and Michael Sean Vance, both of Naples, Fla.; one daughter, Melissa Conley (Scott) Davis of Ashland; one stepdaughter, Kimberly (George) Coleman of Greenup; one brother, Daniel Edward Smith of Alabama; one sister, Rose Smith of Lexington; six grandchildren, Morgan Conley, Sarah Conley, Trinity Vance, Lillian Vance, Chance Coleman and Emily Coleman; and one grandson on the way.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Terry Bryant. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and one hour before he funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Van B. Miller III
Van B. Miller III, 86, husband of Agnes H. Miller, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. He was the son of the late Van B. Miller II and Lorie Bias Miller. He was a Naval World War II veteran as a naval aviator and a graduate of the University of Miami, Fla. School of Law. He was Ashland Oil’s first jet pilot, spurred the creation of Kenwood and was their first mayor. He was one of the founding members of the Tranquilan swim club, chairman of the sanitation district no. 1; president, CEO Minerals Acquisitions Consultants and Big Lump Coal Co. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 76; the Rotary Club, Masons and the El Hasa Temple.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Van B. Miller (Joyce) of Versailles and Keith H. Miller (Gretchen) of Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren, Samantha, Lydia, Tyler, Chase, Danielle; and a sister, Virginia Burgess of Cleveland.
He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Aderinne Holstein, Vesta Ferrell and Floretta Evans.
Funeral will be at noon Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Raceland by Pastor Bob Sweeney. He will be laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery in Ripley, W.Va.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the church.
Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis Bryan (1934-2009)
Lewis “Donnie” Bryan, 75, of Flatwoods died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods. He was born May 31, 1934, in Boyd County, the son of Lloyd and Madeline Gabbert Bryan. He was the husband of Donna Nichols Bryan, who survives. He was a retired marketing representative of AEP and was a member of First Baptist Church of Flatwoods since 1959. He was a graduate of Ashland Senior High School with the class of 1952 where he was a star quarterback.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Larry Parker of Corbin and Tammy and Danny Hall of Barberton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Matthew (Kayla) Parker, Katherine (Adam) Parker Smith, Adam (Aimee) Hall and Jessica Hall; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Parker.
A private visitation and service will be conducted by Pastor Rick Crews. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry G. Miller (1951-2009)
Jerry G. Miller, 57, of Grayson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 19, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. He was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Ashland, a son of Madeline Nickles Miller of Grayson and the late Frank J. Miller. He was a former principal of The Miller Insurance Agency for 10 years, a pipe fitter with Local 155 in Pine Bluff, Ark., and of Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Sharon Smith Miller of Grayson; one son, Jerry Franklin Miller of Olive Hill; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nicole Miller of Lexington and Lauren and John Rice of Olive Hill; one stepdaughter, Tara Roar of Wayne, W.Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Danny Greer of Grayson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mickey and Cindy Miller and Jackie and DeeLisa Miller, both of Grayson; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2009, at Malone Funeral Home by Joed Rice. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Sunday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Allison Nicole Jude, infant, died Friday at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. She was the daughter of James Brandon and Kierah Nicole Slone Jude of Paintsville.
Survivors include one sister, Kaylee Morgan Jude at home; paternal grandparents, Blaine Curtis Jude of Paintsville and Rebecca Jane Jude of Belfry; maternal grandparents, Kimberly Gail and Ricky Slone and Chester and Tonya Slone, all of McCarr; maternal great-grandmothers, Joann Slone of McCarr and Gail Owens of Belfry; paternal great-grandparents, Jack and Judy Jude of Ulysses and Mary Whitney of Paintsville.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Slone Family Cemetery in Blaine.

Dorothy Gee (1932-2009)
Dorothy Jean Carroll Gee, 76, of Grayson died Friday at her home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1932, in Grahn.

Herbert Myron “Herbie” Hannah, 31, of Paintsville died Friday at his home.
He was born July 30, 1977, in Pike County.
His wife, Ruth Castle Hannah, who survives.
