Lloyd Moore - 1944-2008
Lloyd Moore, 63, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born June 24, 1944, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Wickliff and Mollie Patton Moore.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Oliver; and a sister, Jewell Oliver.
He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Karen Hall Moore of Ashland; a son, David Moore and wife Terry of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Dana King of Greensboro, N.C., and Melissa Moore of Ashland; a brother, Wickliff Moore Jr. of Lexington; two sisters, Ruth Mann of Morristown, Tenn., and Monie James of Ashland; grandchildren Olivia, Emily and Aaron Moore, Kayla and Kyle DeBoard, Andrew Fairchild, Jennifer Moore and Micah Talbert; and a great-grandchild, Keegan Fairchild.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today, June 14, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Mike Rice and the Rev. Chuck Keesee. Entombment will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Philip Adkins - 1934-2008
Philip Larry Adkins, of Catlettsburg, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008 following a long battle with cancer in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Adkins was 73 years of age, born Sept. 19, 1934 in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Belmont and Leslie Scott Adkins. Phil was a graduate of Boyd County High School and attended Western Kentucky University, served our great nation honorably with two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy and retired after a long career with CSX as an electrician. Good food, good blues music and good conversation with family and friends were always at the top of Phil’s “to do” list! He loved UK and U of L basketball, his dogs and quiet time with a book.
He leaves behind his wife Nancy Ratliff Adkins; a daughter, Jennifer Mills; a son, Dwight Adkins; a granddaughter, Tara Napier; a sister, Sharon Allsup and a brother, Bruce Adkins.
To honor Phil and his wishes, there will be no services. Rather to celebrate his life and memory, a heartfelt donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101 or Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.

Claudine Mae Foster, 79, of Catlettsburg, died Thursday in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
There will be no funeral service or visitation. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Goldie May Gibson, 80, of Lloyd, died Friday at her residence.

Loretta Westfall Mullins, 64, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, died Friday in Russell.
Her husband, Jimmy Ray Mullins, survives.

Larry Virgil Dewitt, 52, of Owingsville, died Thursday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born April 19, 1956.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Ditney Cemetery.

Leondes L. Fraley, 77, of Keaton, died Friday at his home.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Johns Fraley.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sturgill Cemetery in Martha.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. tonight and after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
