Carl Graydon Virgin - 1925-2008
Carl Graydon Virgin, 82, of Flatwoods, Ky., died June 10, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Boyd County, Ky., a son of the late Elwood K. and Mary Catherine “Mayme” Cameron Virgin.
In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph T. Virgin; a daughter, Carla S. Virgin; a brother, Elwood K. Virgin Jr.; and a sister, Mildred Virgin.
He was a retired metallurgical lab tech with Armco Steel Corp. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, American Legion Post 325 of Flatwoods and the United Steelworkers and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Jo Barker Virgin of Flatwoods; sons Michael E. (Susan) Virgin of Ashland, Ky., and David E. Virgin of San Mateo, Calif.; a daughter, Cynthia A. (Frank) Arthur of Flatwoods; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Raymond Payne. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, with military rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 12 at the funeral home.

Johnny Eugene Kouns - 1968-2008
Johnny Kouns, 39, of Grayson, died early Wednesday morning in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born Feb. 14, 1969, in Morehead, Ky., a son of Patricia Kiser Kouns Lester of Grayson and Vernon Kouns of Nashville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brody Kouns.
He had worked on the barges for Marathon Oil Co. and attended New Beginnings Church in Piketon, Ohio.
He is survived, in addition to his parents, by a daughter, Eden Kouns of Grayson; a sister, Vernetta McCallister of Charleston, W.Va.; a brother, Charles Kouns of Grayson; four nieces, Chanda Rodgers, Shawna Rodgers, Brittany Kouns and Kristen Greer; and a nephew, Charles Garrett Kouns.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Barry Pelphrey, minister. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, June 12 and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert “Bud” Akers - 1948-2008
Robert “Bud” Akers, 59, of Louisa, Ky., died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born July 28, 1948, in Prestonsburg, Ky., a son of Sylvia Kidd Akers of Fort Gay, W.Va. and the late Elder Akers.
He was a laborer with Laborers Local 1445 in Catlettsburg, Ky.
Additional survivors include his wife, Brenda Brewer Akers of Louisa; two sons, Brian (Sherita) Akers of Louisa and Michael (Cynde) Akers of Grayson, Ky.; two sisters, Joyce Stewart of Catlettsburg and Janice Castle of Louisa; a special brother, Teddy Wheeler; and six grandchildren, Spencer Akers, Tate Akers, Brooklyn Akers, Abbey Akers, Kylen Webb and Larisa Gauze.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2008, at Louisa Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Benny Vanhoose and Brother Isaac Rowland. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial Gardens in Louisa.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Robert Heatherly
Robert S. Heatherly, 78, of South Shore, formerly of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Tuesday in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Richard G. Wolbert, 57, of South Shore, died Tuesday in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Claybe Holbrook
Claybe S. Holbrook, 75, of Elliott County, died Wednesday at his residence.
His wife, Margie Holbrook, survives.
