Ronald W. Howard - 1945-2008
Ronald W. “Opey” Howard, lifelong resident of Catlettsburg, passed away in King’s Daughters Medical Center on Sunday, June 8, 2008, following a long bout with cancer.
Ronnie was 62 years of age, born Dec. 23, 1945, in Ashland, a son of the late Morton and Adele Overby Howard. He attended Thomas R. Brown High School and graduated from Boyd County High School in 1963, lettering in football all four years. For more than 32 years, he was a well-known and respected telephone service repairman for GTE.
More recently, he was devastated by the loss of his daughter, Shelly Howard Gibson, in 2002 and his wife of 41 years, Nita Johnson Howard, in 2005.
Sadly, Ronnie leaves behind his only son, Ronald Winston Howard of Grayson, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Howard and Jacob Thomas Howard of Danville, Ky., and Kayla Nicole Gibson of Ashland, Ky. Also surviving are a brother, Tim Howard and his wife, Denise, of Catlettsburg; three sisters, Sue Ellen Connor of Ashland, Denise O’Pell and her husband, Jack, of Catlettsburg and Deborah Mullins and her husband, David, of Ironton, Ohio; and a host of extended family and friends all whom love him and will miss him deeply.
In honor and reverence, a funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Frank Hulett will conduct the service. Final rest will be in Harvey Town Cemetery in Huntington, W.Va., beside his wife and daughter.

Ruby Jewell Duncan Wilson - 1929-2008
Mrs. Ruby Jewell Duncan Wilson, 78, of Woodside, Olive Hill, Ky., was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, June 10, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Wilson was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Jess and Ethel Viars Duncan.
Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She attended Limestone Apostolic Church and had been a Christian for almost 40 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Edward “Ed” Wilson; a grandson, Brad Alan Paynter; and a brother-in-law, Pat Perry.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Sandra Carroll of Monticello, Ky., and Keith Wilson of Naples, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Rick Paynter of Olive Hill; two grandsons, Jeffery Newell of Olive Hill and Chad Wilson of Lexington, Ky.; and a sister, Sonja Perry of Olive Hill. She also leaves other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Rick Crank and Brother Joe Ruley. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until services Thursday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Esta Hutchinson - 1914-2008
Esta Hutchinson, 93, of Isonville, Ky., widow of William E. Hutchinson, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at her home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Elliott County, the daughter of the late Mint and Mary Belle Adkins Moore.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six children, Edith Hutchinson, Ethel Wheeler, Winfield Hutchinson, Lissie Moore, Danny Hutchinson and Johnny Hutchinson and five brothers and two sisters.
Esta was married to William E. for 66 years before his passing. She was a homemaker and loving mother and attended Middle Fork Church of God.
She is survived by her children, Ithel Elliott of Fairborn, Ohio, Evelyn Hook of Muncie, Ind., Lonnie Hutchinson of Detroit, Mich., Jimmie Hutchinson of Isonville, Larry Hutchinson of Sandy Hook, Ky., Lorine Newell of Isonville and Elaine Hutchinson of Fairborn; 34 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at noon Thursday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brother Mike Adkins and Brother Tivis Ison. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Neva Brown, 87, of Flatgap, died Monday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Ramey Branch Community Church in Volga. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Volga.

Douglas Harper - 1960-2008
Douglas A. Harper, 47, of Kitts Hill, died Sunday in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born June 21, 1960, in Lawrence County.
His wife, Sheilah Parker Harper, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Lodge Cemetery.

Keith Allen McFann, 48, of Pedro, died Sunday in Somerset, Ky.
He was born Jan. 22, 1960, in Lawrence County.

Bobby Miller - 1935-2008
Bobby Miller, 72, of Pedro, died Tuesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
He was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Lawrence County.
His wife, Myrtle Carmon Miller, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 8850.

Rosa Gaspers - 1924-2008
Rosa G. Gaspers, 84, of Ironton, died Monday in Wheelersburg.
She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Scioto County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Wheelersburg. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
