John C. Gehringer - 1927-2008
John C. Gehringer, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Thursday, June 5, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Ashland, a son of the late John Henry and Hazel Meek Gehringer.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Gehringer, in 1991.
He retired after 21 years as an Operator 1 for the city of Ashland and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
His wife, Betty Hutchinson Gehringer, survives. Also surviving are four sons, John Gehringer, James Gehringer, Phillip Gehringer and Matthew Gehringer, all of Ashland; a daughter, Juliette Dixon of Ashland; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Gehringer, Lewis Gehringer and Burnus Gehringer, all of Flatwoods, Ky.; and six sisters, Pearl Parker of Rush, Ky., Louise Helms of Catlettsburg, Ky., Ruth Clark, Clarcey Roark and Hazel Workman, all of Flatwoods, and Mabel Jones of Greenup, Ky.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today, June 10, 2008, at Rose Hill Burial Park by Pastor Bob Overton.
There will be no visitation.

Lola Johnson Skeans - 1943-2008
Lola Johnson Skeans, 64, of Hilton Avenue, Ashland, passed away Monday morning, June 9, 2008, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.
Mrs. Skeans was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Salyers Morrison. She was a personal caregiver for many years and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Rick Johnson and daughter Vickie Johnson, both of Ashland; three brothers, Jack Tolliver and Marvin Morrison, both of Proctorville, Ohio, and Frank Morrison of Russell, Ky.; three beautiful grandchildren, Ashley Fields, Courtney Fields and Destiny Johnson; and a precious great-grandson, Keagan Fairchild.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Edgar Justice, and two sisters, Betty Floyd and Dorothy Mullins.
Funeral services will be at at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. A eulogy and message will be delivered by Jim Smedley.
Burial will follow a committal service at East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rachel Ann Marie Delaney
Rachel Ann Marie Delaney, 6-week-old daughter of Paul and Beth Delaney of 5095 Hurricane Road, Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington, where she was born along with her twin sister, Piper Ann Michelle Delaney, on April 23, 2008.
Rachel is also survived by her brother, Paul Anthony “Paulo” Delaney; her maternal grandparents, James and Polly Stevison of Wheelersburg, Ohio; her paternal grandparents, Virgil and Pola Delaney of Ashland, Ky.; her godparents, Marian P. Vidas and N. Dennis Hodges; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles who will lovingly remember her.
A service of remembrance will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Holy Family Church in Ashland by the Rev. John P. Noe. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Rachel’s family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 900 Winchester Avenue, Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, her family has set up a nursing scholarship in Rachel’s name with the Ohio University Foundation, Ohio University Southern, where donations in her name may be mailed to 1804 Liberty Ave., Ironton, OH 45638.

Arnold “Toby” Kimelton - 1945-2008
Arnold “Toby” Kimelton, 62, of Worthington, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Kimelton was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Greenup County, Ky., a son of the late Luther and Pearl Matthews Kimelton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Kimelton; and three grandchildren, Jareth, Anastasia and Shelby Kimelton.
He was a retired carman for the CSX Railroad and a member of the Brotherhood Railway Carmen of America and Ironton Eagles.
Surviving are his special friend of 20 years, Teenie Bratt; two sons, Toby Kimelton and Ronald E. Kimelton, both of Florida; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by Pastor J.R. Asberry. Burial will be in Caroline Cemetery in Raceland.

James Alford King - 1920-2008
James Alford King, 87, of Wurtland, Ky., passed away on June 8, 2008, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland.
Mr. King was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Carbondale, Ill., a son of the late Alexis A. and Helen P. King. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Allen E. King.
He was a member of Oldsteam Baptist Church in Wurtland.
Surviving are his wife, Nola M. Potter King of Wurtland; four sons, Stephen D. (Donna) King of Naples, Fla., Donald L. King of Pelkon, Ga., John C. (Jeri) King of Allen, Texas, and George L. King of Naples; two daughters, Rebecca J. (William) Hisler of Greenup, Ky., and Carol K. Stewart of Valdosta, Ga.; two stepsons, Gerald D. Jr. (Sally) Melvin of Wurtland and Cermilus (Gail) Melvin of Raceland, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Regina (Bill) Hall of Wurtland, Jerry (Randy) Stanley of Hamassas, Fla., and Mary P. (Hubert) Potter of Greenup, Ky.; a brother, Richard L. King of Illinois; 44 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Jack McCleese. Burial will be in Melvin Cemetery in Wurtland.

Herman Peters - 1922-2008
Herman Peters, 85, of Isonville, Ky., formerly of Minford, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at his home.
He was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Isonville, Ky., the son of the late Dockie and Bertie Sparks Peters. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Eloise Peters; and brothers and sisters Floa Skaggs, Chloa Smith, Mary, Viola Welch, Sarah Adkins, Burl Peters, Clarie Bernice Peters, Eugene Peters, Emanuel Peters and Bertie Faye.
He was a retired pipefitter and welder. He attended Newcombe Valley Enterprise Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic lodge in South Shore.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Adkins; a daughter, Beverly Mains of Elk Grove, Calif.; a granddaughter, Stephanie Smith; and a great-grandchild, Lucas Smith.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Ky., by Brothers Nigel Salyers, Lawrence Adkins and Kenneth Skaggs. Burial will be in Candy Run Church Cemetery in Minford.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Adkins, Sam Ison, L.C. Boggs, Steve Newell, Jr. Williams and Dave Bolin.

Ronald “Opey” Howard - 1945-2008
Ronald W. “Opey” Howard, 62, of Center Street, died Sunday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 23, 1945, in Ashland.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Harvey Town Cemetery in Huntington, W.Va.

Anthony Wages - 1971-2008
Anthony Ray Wages, 36, of Rush, died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1971, in Ashland.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Church in Hitchins. Burial will be in LeMaster Cemetery.

Clyde Bevins - 1934-2008
Clyde W. Bevins, 74, of Vanceburg, died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Vanceburg.
His wife, Diana Lightner Bevins, survives.
