Nelson Cooper - 1967-2008
Nelson O. Cooper, 40, of Worthington, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 6, 2008, in Nitro, W.Va.
He was born July 29, 1967, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of Leala Keaton Davis of Ironton and David Cooper of Scottown. He was the husband of Tracy Newsome Cooper, who survives.
He was owner of Powell’s Body Shop in Raceland.
Survivors, in addition to his parents and wife, include three sons, Mitchell Cooper, Preston Cooper and James Cooper, all of Worthington; two sisters, Andrea Gore of Ironton and Debbie Adkins of South Point, Ohio; two brothers, David Cooper of Ironton and Ryan Cooper of Coal Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by Dr. Tom Melvin. Burial will be in Warnock Cemetery in Warnock.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Inez Womack - 1918-2008
Inez S. Womack, 90, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2008, in Wurtland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland.
Mrs. Womack was born May 3, 1918, at Siloam, a daughter of the late Joseph and Phoebe Stephens Smith. She was a homemaker and attended Greenup First Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Cecil Smith, Joe T. Smith, Luther Smith, Woodrow Wilson Smith and Leonard Smith; and five sisters, Hazel Wells, Ruby Fesmire, Madge Smith, Wilma Scott and Nancy Martin.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis “P.J.” (Marshall) McKenzie of Greenup; a brother, Bill Smith (Olive) of Lucasville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mary (Joseph) Schaefer of Marietta, Ga., Susan (J.R.) Potter of Raceland, Lisa (Rusty) Hunter of Crooksville, Ohio, and Toby (Lynn) Smith of Lancaster, Ohio; and 10 great-grandchildren, Maggie Schaefer, Ben Schaefer, Emma Schaefer, Luke Sanders, Jessie Potter, Kylie Vetter, Joshua Hunter, Garrett Smith, Mindy Smith and Vanna Smith.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Dr. Tom Melvin. Burial will be in the Smith-Claxon Cemetery on Crane Creek Road.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Community Hospice Care Center, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
Infant Jasper Miller - 2008-2008
Infant Jasper Grant Miller, son of Kevin and Betsy Bailey Miller of Morehead was stillborn on Friday, June 6, 2008, at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mataline Holbrook Miller.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his paternal grandfather, Lewis Miller of Salyersville; his maternal grandparents, Estill and Janice Henderson Bailey of Olive Hill; four uncles, Tim Bailey, Lonnie Miller, Michael Miller and Danny Miller; two aunts, Laura Whitaker and Ronda Butcher; and several cousins.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Cemetery on Dry Fork Road in Olive Hill by Brother Larry Harris.
Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill was in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Rice - 1940-2008
Mrs. Juanita Mayse Rice, 68, of Sandy Hook was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, June 7, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Rice was born May 17, 1940, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late Ollie and Martha Eldridge Mayse.
Juanita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a Christian who served the Lord for 43 years and was a member of the Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church in Sandy Hook. She was a former employee of the Kentucky Farm Bureau insurance agency in Grayson, where she worked as a secretary for her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Wilder.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William “Billy T.” Rice, whom she married on Dec. 24, 1958; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Athene Bowling of Girard, Ill., and Marianne and Christopher McGlone of Garrison; five grandchildren, Eden Bowling, Cara Bowling, Kelsey McGlone, Kamryn McGlone and Kendall McGlone; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Marie Mayse of Sandy Hook; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Ivory Howard and Leona Mayse, both of Sandy Hook and Jorene and Carl Brewer and Joyce McGuire, all of Morehead. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Laurel Gorge Enterprise Baptist Church in Sandy Hook by Brothers Franklin Gillum, Lige Smith and Eugene Dickerson. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until services Tuesday at the church.
Lewis Dickerson, Clavis Dickerson, Allen Gillum, Leroy Stevens, Talmadge Stevens and Johnny Ison will serve as pallbearers.
Edith Dickerson, Judy Dickerson, Donna Gillum, Carolyn Gillum, Karen Ann Ison, Arlene Stevens, Rhonda Oney and Betty Flaugher will serve as honorary pallbearers
Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald W. Howard 62, of Center Street, Catlettsburg, died Sunday in Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Arnold “Toby” Kimelton, 62, of Worthington, died Sunday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Tina Hedge - 1951-2008
Tina Nadine King Hedge, 57, of Olive Hill, died Saturday at the residence of her niece and caregiver, Ann Carroll.
She was born April 19, 1951, in Carter County.
Her husband, Denvil Hedge, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Hedge Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, all day Tuesday and until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dennis Blair
Dennis Blair, 87, of West Van Lear, died Saturday at his residence.
His wife, Iris Ward Blair, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thealka Freewill Baptist Church in Thealka. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville, with military graveside rites by Auxier DAV Chapter 18.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Paintsville Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Leonard Marcum - 1959-2008
Leonard Ray Marcum, 48, of Fort Gay, W.Va., died Friday in Three Rivers Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 19, 1959, in Williamson, W.Va.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Silver Creek United Baptist Church in Crum, W.Va.
Burial will be in Williamson Cemetery in Jennings Creek, W.Va.

LaVerne Yvone “Bonnie” Unger of Ironton died Sunday.
Her husband, Joseph Eugene Unger, preceded her in death.
