Fred Maddix Jr. - 1927-2008
Fred D. “Buddy-Screek” Maddix Jr., 80, of Ashland, died Monday, June 2, 2008, in Matthews, N.C., at the residence of his daughter.
He was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Ashland, the son of the late Fred D. Sr. and Amanda Edna Binion Maddix.
He was a retired general yard master for CSX Railroad with 42 years of service and a member of Second Freewill Baptist Church. The World War II Navy veteran was a member of American Legion Post 76 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Fern Barker Maddix; three brothers, Julius Clifford Maddix, William Talmadge Maddix and James Franklin Maddix; and two sisters, Hazel Margarette Maddix Topping and Tewatha Maddix Colley.
Survivors include two daughters, Billie Belinda Maddix Cowart and her husband, Tony D. Cowart, of Matthews and Rebecca Lee Maddix DeMarco of Norfolk, Va.; a granddaughter, Brandalyn Heather Sparks Morris and her husband, George Phillip Morris, of Matthews; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Courtney Morris of Matthews; and three sisters, Laura Belle Harper Maddix Haupt of Hampton, Va., Geneva Christine Maddix Forrest of Poquoson, Va., and Mary Elizabeth Maddix Kazarnowicz of Hampton.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Vernon Barker and the Rev. Don Coleman. A musical selection will be performed by Suffragan Bishop Elzie Thomas.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Military graveside rites will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be his and his wife’s nephews and a grandson-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Thru the Bible Radio Ministry with J. Vernon McGee, P.O. Box 7100, Pasadena, Calif.

Holly Carey
Holly Elizabeth Davis Carey, 26, of Ashland, died Tuesday in Georgia from injuries she received in an automobile accident.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel.

Jack A. Ellens
Jack A. Ellens, 78, of Pedro, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
He was born in Ashland.
His wife, Roberta Ellens, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. A private burial will be at a later date.

Everett Salley
Everett M. Salley, 64, of Ashland, died Wednesday at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup.

William Hill - 1975-2008
William Scott Hill, 33, of Staffordsville, died Tuesday in Pike County.
He was born May 19, 1975, in Johnson County.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m.. Friday and until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Jimmy Lee Bailey
Jimmy Lee Bailey, 57, of Salyersville, died Tuesday.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson County Memorial Cemetery.

William Wallen - 1948-2008
William T. “Buddy” Wallen, 59, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
He was born Oct. 3, 1948, in Floyd County.
His wife, Linda Kaye Lafferty Wallen, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Wallen Family Cemetery.

Wilma Crisp - 1952-2008
Wilma Jean Moore Crisp, 55, of Elliottville, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling.
She was born June 6, 1952.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Ditney Cemetery.

David Blair - 1948-2008
David “Dave” Lynn Blair, 59, of Staffordsville, died Wednesday in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.
He was born Oct. 25, 1948, in Johnson County.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Garnet McFann - 1916-2008
Garnet McFann, 92, of Pedro, died Tuesday at her residence.
She was born May 28, 1916, in Lawrence County.
Her husband, Arthur McFann, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Vernon Furnace Cemetery in Pedro.
