Elnora Munn (1927-2008)

Elnora Martin Munn, 81, of Maloneton, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth.

She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Greenup, a daughter of the late Wiley Martin and Nebosiah Church Martin.

She was a member of Allen’s Chapel Church of Christ in Maloneton for 53 years and retired from the former Daniels and Head of Portsmouth and Reynolds and Co. of Portsmouth. She was a bookkeeper for the Maloneton Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving is her husband, Raymond E. Munn, whom she married on Nov. 26, 1949. They had been married for 58 years.

Also surviving are two sisters, Evaline Mylan of Portsmouth and Lavetta Getreu of Columbus; three nieces, Anita Cooper, Janette Shrader and Nancy Watson; two nephews, Mason Branham and Gary Coleman; four great-nephews, Rob Shrader, Rickey Webb, Rusty Webb and Rob Watson; and five great-nieces, Rebecca McCarty, Leeanna Cooper, Rolena Viator, Rita Hannah and Andrea Watson.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Oswell Martin, Marvin Martin, Bernice Martin and Ruel Martin.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by Harold Dupuy, minister. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery on Ky. 1 in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Judy Barney (1943-2008)

Judy May Barney, 64, of Flatwoods, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Meredith and Mary Sullivan Forbs. She was the wife of Kenneth R. Barney, who survives.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Flatwoods.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Forbs, Bob Forbs and Glen Forbs.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Kenny Barney and his wife, Debbie, of Argillite and Bill Barney and his wife, Angele, and Jon Barney, all of Ashland; a brother, Jim Forbs of Flatwoods; three sisters, Francis Reese of Youngstown, Ohio, Mary Gehringer of Argillite and Joyce Kemper of Flatwoods; a grandson, Kendall Barney of Morehead; and a granddaughter, Makayla Barney of Ashland.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Bill Dillon. Burial will be in Sullivan Cemetery in Argillite.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Paul Hensley Jr. (1927-2008)

Paul Hensley Jr., 80, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born June 1, 1927, in Carter County, a son of the late Paul and Cloma Stephens Hensley.

He was retired from General Refractories, where he worked as a welder and mechanic. He was a Christian and a member of Olive Hill United Methodist Church and Olive Hill Masonic Lodge 629. He was a World War II veteran and served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glorious Dixon Hensley; two daughters and a son-in-law, Theresa Hensley of Ashland and Karen and Hal Bledsoe of Olive Hill; a brother, George Hensley of Ashland; a sister, Leatha Kegley of Mansfield, Ohio; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sandra and Jerry York of Ashland, Jason and Sheri Fannin of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Christopher and Shonda Bledsoe of Morehead and twins Andrew and Abigail Bledsoe of Olive Hill; five great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Ethan Bledsoe, Ella and Claire Fannin and Emily York; and a host of extended family and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Jason Carpintero. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until the services Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Pallbearers serving will be Danny Lowe, Bill Callihan, Clyde Wilson, Rodney Stephens, Jack Hall and Russell Patrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Stephens Jr., Phillip Burton, Mark Boggs, James Patton, Rocky Stephens, Lowell Mosier, Garl Adkins and Glenn Wolfe.



Alice Phillips (1930-2008)

Alice Ruth Ison Phillips, 77, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday at her residence.

She was born June 19, 1930, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late George Dewey and Monnie B. Flannery Ison.

She was a retired schoolteacher who taught for 43 years and a devoted Christian for 40 years. She was a strong supporter of the Christian and Jews International Foundation.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joe Allen “T” Phillips; and two brothers, John M. Ison and Paul Ison.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine P. Horn and John Steitz of Barto, Pa.; two grandchildren, David G. Horn of Butler, N.J., and Anne Elizabeth Horn of Barto; and a great-granddaughter, Lisa Gardner Boguslavskiy.

Additionally, Ruth is survived by siblings James “Towney” Ison of Hawthorn, Fla., Aythel Pence of Fernpark, Fla., Marcella Miller, married to Jackie B. Miller, and Dorothy Lee, all of Olive Hill. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Community Church in Olive Hill by Brothers Tim Wagoner and Rudy Reed. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill and an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be David Horn, Jimmy Ison, Jamey Lee, David Lee, Brandon Lee and Billy Jack Rayburn.



Charles Wells (1922-2008)

Charles “Jeff” Wells, 86, of Grayson, formerly of Auxier, died Saturday.

He was born May 12, 1922, in Floyd County.

His wife, Jenny Wells, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phelps and Son Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Auxier Relocation Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Frederick Bridges (1942-2008)

Frederick LeRoy Bridges, 65, of South Point, died Saturday in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born Dec. 2, 1942, in Centreville, Va., the son of the late Curtis and Priscilla Dean Rowland Bridges.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Ice Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ralph Holbrook (1930-2008)

Ralph “Buzz” Holbrook, 77, of Patriot, died Sunday at his residence.

He was born June 25, 1930, at Kitchen.

His wife, Edith Faye Arthur Holbrook, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery.
