Jackie Deloris Rice (1930-2008)
Jackie Deloris Rice, 77, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008, after a long illness. Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Eugene and Sunia Justice. She was the wife of her husband of 61 years, Leonard Rice.
She was a homemaker.
She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Twinam; four sisters; and one brother.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Rick Rice, Bill Rice and Lenny Rice and his companion, Sharon Spears; one daughter, Sandy Rice; one sister, Kathleen Samms of Arizona; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service in her honor will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to Community Hospice of Ashland, 1538 Central Avenue, Ashland, Ky. 41101; or to the Alzheimers Association.
Merna Patton (1924-2008)
Merna J. (Nolte) Patton, 83, of Amherst, N.Y., formerly of Ashland, died Thursday, May 29, 2008.
Mrs. Patton was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Ashland, a daughter of the late William H. and Margaret (Kouns) Nolte.
She was a retired medical assistant and held the office of president from 1971 to 1972 of the Erie County AAMA.
She also was a member of the “Garnet Gals” chapter of the Red Hat Society in East Amherst, N.Y.
In 1963, while in Ashland, she served as worthy high priestess of the Ashland Shrine No. 7 order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
She was the wife of the late Charles E. “Jack” Patton, who worked for the Ashland Oil Refinery No. 2.
She is survived by a son, Mark E. Patton (late Judy) of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Judy Chambos of Amherst; granddaughters, Nicole Patton, Michelle (Andrew) Christensen, Kimberly and Kelli Chambos; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ethel (late Edward) Kelley of Greenup and Maxi Dean (late A.J.) Patton of Ashland and Charlotte (late Frank) Garnes of Macon, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel, by the Rev. Harold Cathey. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charlie Smith Sr. (1925-2008)
Charlie Melford Smith Sr., 82, of South Shore died Saturday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born July 9, 1925, the son of the late Arthur Monroe Smith and Gracie Bear Smith. He was the husband of the late Rachael Maxie Smith.
He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Gracie Smith and Rosa Smith; and one son, Charles Smith Jr.
Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Lewis of Bloomingburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, with the Rev. Glenn Newsome officiating. Burial will be in Peck Cemetery in South Shore.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Lloyd Ramey (1920-2008)
Lloyd Ramey, 87, of Flatwoods died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Gesling, the son of the late William Henry and Ottie Lee Wooten Ramey. He was the husband of Alma M. Bowling Ramey, who died in 2001.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Flatwoods since 1978 and was retired from Armco Steel with 28 years of service. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Ramey.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Elden (Diane) Ramey of Frederick, Md.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna (Paul) Morman of Argillite and Reda Carol Redden of Lexington; one sister, Virgie Lewis of Carter City; five grandchildren, Paula Sue Morman (Jim) Darringer, Linda Morman, Shane Redden, Jeffrey Morman and Jason (Rebecca) Redden; and two great-grandchildren, Lewis and Lloyd Darringer.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Steen Funeral Home, Marshall Steen Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Pridemore officiating. Burial will be in Bowling Cemetery on Whites Creek.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gene S. Daniel Jr., 60, of Ashland died Saturday at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

Alberta S. Thompson Morgan, 82, of South Shore died Friday at her home.
She was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Leatherwood.
Her husband, Raymond Morgan, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Rt. 1, South Shore.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore.

Anna Elnora Munn, 81, of South Shore died Saturday at Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth.

Sybil Burchett, 89, of Stambaugh died Saturday in Nippa.
She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Johnson County.
Her husband, Theodore Burchett, preceded her in death.

Johnnie McVey (1928-2008)
Johnnie Francis McVey, 79, of Morehead died Saturday at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born Dec. 8, 1928.

Jim Anderson, 65, of Ironton died Friday at his home.
He was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Marion County, Ohio.
His wife, Minnie Nelson Anderson survives.
