Barbara L. Mooney (1929-2008)

Barbara L. Mooney, 78, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Mooney was born June 7, 1929, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Frank S. and Emma Bond Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell P. Mooney, in 2001 and a grandchild, Jesse McComis.

She formerly worked as the co-director of the Ashland Senior Center and was a member of Heritage Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael P. Mooney and wife Kathi of Ashland; a daughter, Karen L. Mooney McComis and husband Sterling of Flatwoods, Ky.; a brother, Frank Brown of Barboursville, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Kyle Mooney, Kelli Mooney Thornsbury, Courtney Mooney Enyart and Brandon Mooney; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth, Alivia, Blake and Ellie.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Jim Mitchell. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James Kevin Brown (1966-2008)

James Kevin Brown, 42, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Monday, May 26, 2008, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Ohio, by the Rev. Pete Roar. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.

Kevin was born May 8, 1966. He was a pipefitter and welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 248. Kevin was preceded in death by a brother, Shawn Brown; his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Charles Edward and Barbara Cahal; and his paternal grandparents, Jack and Frankie Brown.

Kevin is survived by his daughter, Kaitlyn Brown of South Point; his mother, Phyllis Cahal Brown of South Point; his father, Jim (Debbie) Brown of Chesapeake; a sister, Kim (Wade) Langston of Stanton, Ala.; two brothers, Don (Debbie) Brown of Catlettsburg and Mike (Jeri) Brown of Raceland, Ky.; and his paternal grandmother, Gladys Childers of Ely, Nev.

Trudy Ann Rakes Siple (1960-2008)

Trudy Ann Rakes Siple, 47, passed away May 27, 2008, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland, Ky., following a long battle with Huntington’s Chorea

Trudy was born July 3, 1960, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Darrell and Betty Jo Sager Rakes. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Connie Rakes; and a brother, Darrell Rakes.

She was a member of Rockdale Full Gospel Assembly in Meads, Ky.

Surviving are a daughter, Miranda Siple Adkins of Flatwoods, Ky.; a son, Joshua Siple of Flatwoods, Ky.; a brother, Rick (Meredith) Rakes of South Point, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Baylee Payne and Austin and Adam Adkins.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky. Burial will be at a later date in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Phyllis Eastham (1926-2008)

Phyllis Eastham, 81, of Wurtland, Ky., passed away May 28, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

Mrs. Eastham was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Wurtland, a daughter of the late Arnold and Cynthia Belford Jacobs.

She was a retired teacher with the Greenup County School District for more than 25 years.

Surviving are her husband, Clarence Eastham; two daughters, Toni Eastham of Abita Springs, La., and Sherri Eastham of Wurtland; and three grandchildren, Mason Eastham of Richmond, Ky., Jennie Christenson and Cynthia Christenson of New Orleans, La.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today, May 29, 2008, at Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Ky., by the Rev. Tom Heaberlin.

Calvin Russell Parsons (1927-2008)

Calvin Russell Parsons, 81, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born April 24, 1927, in Reedville, Ky., a son of the late George and Lena Evans Parsons.

He was retired from General Refractories, was a World War II Marines veteran and attended Grace Bible Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Orther, Noble and Roy Parsons, and three sisters, Lona Deer, Emily Johnson and Ruth Davidson.

His survivors include his wife of 63 years, Madeline Collier Parsons of Grayson; a daughter, Brenda and Max Ison of Grayson; three sons, John Albert and Francis Parsons of Grayson, William Russell “Bill” and Sandy Parsons of Leesburg, Ohio, and Eddie Arnold Parsons of Grayson; a brother, Elvin Parsons of West Milton, Ohio; two sisters, Clarice Brunty of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Anna Laura Hay of Circleville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Terry Dean, minister. Entombment will be in East Carter County Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 29 after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lillian Kendall Kirkland

Lillian Kendall Kirkland, 90, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, was granted peace by her Savior on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her home at Friendship Village of Columbus.

Valedictorian of her high school class, Lillian later received both her B.A. and master’s degrees in literature. She was a professor of literature at Katharine Gibbs School, New York University, Greenvale University and North Idaho College. Later, after her teaching career, Lillian was a longtime employee of Ashland Chemical Co. She was an active and dedicated member of the PEO Sisterhood and a former member of the University Women’s Club.

Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband and companion, Robert J. Kirkland Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (John) Jakubowski; a granddaughter, Tara Jakubowski, all of Schaumberg, Ill.; a grandson, Erik (Johanna) Jakubowski of Huntley, Ill.; and many, many friends.

Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085, (614) 885-4006, is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 High St., Worthington, where family will receive friends immediately before and after the service. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider memorial contributions to Mount Carmel/St. Ann’s Hospice, 793 W. State St., Columbus, OH 43222-9988 or HARPS/Elite Health Services in Lillian’s memory.

Gladys Parish Evans (1919-2008)

Mrs. Gladys Parish Evans, 88, of Eden Hollow in Morehead, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Carter County, Ky., to the late Ora and Ann Porter Parish.

Gladys was a homemaker and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was of the Church of God faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her little dog, Joe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Delmas Gay Evans; a brother, Chalmer Parish; eight infant brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson, Deanie Gillispie.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Woodrow Evans; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie Ray and Jessie Evans of Niles, Ohio, and Jackie C. and Brenda Evans of Olive Hill; five daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Jean and Vernon Hamilton, Dolene and Bud Knepp of Morehead, Ky., Delores and Ed Mayfield, Sue and Ron Bowman of Niles and Danette Evans and Johnnie of Morehead; two sisters, Loretta Holbrook of Niles and Larna Binion of Olive Hill; a special great-niece, Lorey Binion Lowe; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Olive Hill by Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Ray Glover. Burial will be in Bowen Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, all day Friday and until noon Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mike and Gay Evans for their love and support through the difficult times.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Willie Smith, 80, husband of Mary Menshouse Smith of Flatwoods, died Wednesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Alice Morgan, 89, of Grayson, died Wednesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Allen Pierce Sr. (1945-2008)

Allen Anthony Pierce Sr., 63, of Ewing, died Monday in Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg.

He was born Jan. 23, 1945, and was the husband of Wanda K. McClurg Pierce.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.

Rinda Logan (1939-2008)

Rinda Ann Logan, 69, of Garrison, died Tuesday at her residence.

She was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Garrison.

Charlie Franklin Robbins, 58, of West Liberty, died Wednesday his residence.

His wife, Annaleen Pack Robbins, survives.

David Steagall (1942-2008)

David McArthur Steagall, 66, of Jeffersonville, formerly of Morehead, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling.

He was born March 18, 1942, in Rowan County.

His wife, Vonda Blevins Steagall, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead. Burial will be in Caudill Cemetery in Cranston.

Bonnie Dingus

Bonnie Beatrice Turner Dingus, 97, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Ivel, died May 22 in Fort Walton Beach.

Her husband, Olvo Preston Dingus, preceded her in death.
