Margaret Beatty - 1905-2008
Margaret Beatty, 103, of Ashland, died after a short stay in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.
She was born April 29, 1905, in Patton, Pa., the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Sherry (Huber) Hoover. She was the last surviving of their 12 children.
Her husband, William Joseph Beatty, preceded her in death in 1967.
Margaret was a member of NARFE, the Association of Retired Federal Employees and a past member of the Heritage Club.
Margaret was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish.
Her life was enriched by her grandchildren, her church, and her love for handwork, traveling and playing bridge.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest resident of Boyd County.
Her survivors include one son, David (Vicky) Beatty of Ashland; a daughter, Elinor Stewart of Bellefonte; nine grandchildren, Paul (Vicki) Stewart and Roy (Linda) Stewart of Ashland, Mike (Cindy) Stewart of Ironville, Mary Ann Kuhner of Flatwoods, Margaret (Tim) Lake of Ashland, James Stewart of Fort Mills, S.C., Jennifer Wilkinson of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Joy Beatty (Steve MacCauley) of Seattle, Wash., and Kristi Beatty of Lewisburg, W.Va.; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with a Rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services in honor of Mrs. Beatty will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Holy Family Church in Ashland by the Rev. John P. Noe. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s name should be donated to Holy Family School, 932 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Kathy Griffitts - 1971-2008
Katheryn “Kathy” Louise Markin Griffitts, 37, wife of James Griffitts of Rush, Ky., passed away on May 22, 2008 in Cabell Huntington Hospital following a brief illness.
Kathy was born April 30, 1971, in Boyd County, Ky., to Eva Abrams Markin of Flatwoods and the late Charles W. Markin.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Kayla Griffitts and a great-nephew, Rickhell Sparks.
She is survived by her loving husband of 8 1/2 years, James David Griffitts of Rush and her three children, James David Griffitts Jr., age 7, Cameron Griffitts, age 4 and Alexis Griffitts, age 5, all at home; two stepdaughters, Kendra Griffitts and Natisha Rowe; her mother, Eva Markin of Flatwoods; three stepgrandchildren, Austin Linn, Haliegh Rowe and Chase Rowe; two brothers, Richard Markin of Circleville, Ohio, and Roger Markin of Flatwoods; two sisters, Ruby Stambaugh of Flatwoods and Betty Huffman of Ashland and a host of friends and extended family.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Pastor Bill Dillon. Burial will follow in Caroline Cemetery in Raceland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.

Baby Angel Grace Gullett
Baby Angel Grace Gullett went to be with the Lord May 21, 2008 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
She is the daughter of Bill Gullett and Shanda Weeks of Greenup, Ky.
She is survived by one sister, Nevaeh Lynn Gullett, at home; paternal grandparents, John H. and Bonnie Gullett of Greenup; paternal great-grandmother, Vonda Gullett of Greenup; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Angie Fritz of Greenup; maternal great-grandmother, Louise Gunaca of Greenup; three uncles, John H. Gullett Jr., Tommy Fritz and Shane Fritz, all of Greenup; and three aunts, Felicia L. Fritz and Candy L. Gullett, both of Greenup and Jodie Gullett of Wheelersburg, Ohio.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Gullett Cemetery on Whittier Road, Greenup by Bishop Kevin Whitt.

Adelaide Coble McDaniel - 1916-2008
Adelaide Coble McDaniel, 91, of Worthington, Ky., went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at her residence.
She was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Davie County, N.C., to the late Addison and Stella Leffler Coble.
Mrs. McDaniel was a long time member of Melrose United Methodist Church and throughout the years, she planned and participated in many activities in the church.
On Oct. 7, 1950, Adelaide married James Erwin McDaniel and moved to the Tri-state area because of his work with the C&O Railroad. They had been married 38 years when Erwin died in 1989.
Including her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Sharpe Cartner and two brothers, John Coble and Alfred F. Coble.
Surviving are one son, James Alfred (Sally) McDaniel of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Susan McDaniel of Worthington and Carolyn (Bill) Pennywitt of Poplar Highlands, Ky.; five grandchildren, James Robert (Lisa) McDaniel of Georgetown, Ky., Rod Ian (Holly) McDaniel of Okinawa, April (Jim) Norman and Scott Stevens of Columbus, Ohio, and Candice (Justin) Stevens of Russell, Ky.; six great-grandchildren, Ashley McDaniel, Simon Sizemore, Carson McDaniel (due July 2008), Samuel Norman, Avery Norman, and J.M. Stevens; two sisters, Blanche Driver of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Hazel Garwood of Mocksville, N.C.; and one brother, Walter Coble of Hunt, N.Y.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Frank Wallace. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight and noon until time of service Sunday.

William C. “Bill” Hammond - 1926-2008
William C. “Bill” Hammond, age 81, of Sciotoville, died Friday, May 23, 2008 in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Dec. 8, 1926, in Sciotoville to John and Carrie (Thompson) Hammond. He graduated from Portsmouth East High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army upon graduation and served until the end of World War II when he was honorably discharged as a private first class. Bill then attended college in Cedarville, Ohio, and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in education. From 1949-1950 he worked for General Motors as a quality control inspector and from 1951-1952 worked as a quality control inspector and heel and shoe cutter for Williams Shoe Co. in Portsmouth. From 1952-1954, he worked for Detroit Steel in Portsmouth as a job order estimator and then in 1954 began work for the Goodyear Atomic Corp. in Piketon, Ohio. He worked various positions including staff engineer, shop maintenance foreman, machine shop foreman, scheduling foreman, shop maintenance inspector and advisor.
He retired in 1985 as a senior maintenance technologist. Bill was a 50-year member of the Western-Sun Masonic Lodge #91 in Wheelersburg and was a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite. He loved two-step dancing, was an avid world traveler and enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting, and spending time with children.
He is survived by a lifetime friend, Shirley Wright of Sciotoville; close friend, Elizabeth Russell; three sons, John W. Hammond (Judy) of Columbus, Mitchell Hammond (Suzanne) of Seneca, S.C., and Monty Wright of Scitoville; two daughters, Cheryl Wright and Amanda Aguilar-Wright (Ivan) both of Sciotoville; stepdaughter, Donna Lee Augustine; eight grandchildren, Matthew Hammond, Kelly Graham (Pete), Mark Hanson, Rachel Magollini (Mike), Jacob Hammond (Michelle), Alexander Aguilar Wright, Steve Ulry (Eileen), and Bret Ulry (Noriko); and six great-grandchildren, Tristian, Alex, Blake, Sera, Cayley and Andrea.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with the Rev. Tim Wright officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with military rites provided by James Dickey American Legion Post No. 23.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service at the funeral home.
A Masonic service will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. following the visitation.

Kathleen Smith Knight, 89, of Ashland, died Friday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Rocco Chinni, 70, of Greenup, formerly of Florida, died Wednesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Allen Webster - 1959-2008
Allen C. Webster, 48, of McArthur, Ohio, formerly of South Shore, died Friday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 31, 1959, in Portsmouth, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.

Pamila Ann Warren Butler, 48, of Morehead, died Wednesday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born Nov. 11, 1959, in Rowan County.
