Gregory Alan Scott - 1958-2008
Gregory Alan Scott, 49, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday evening, May 20, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Scott was born Nov. 8, 1958, in Ashland, a son of Bill F. and Harriet Cornett Scott of Cannonsburg, Ky.
He worked for AK Steel, Kentucky Electric Steel and out of the Millwright Local 1031. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton, Ohio, a 1976 graduate of Boyd County High School, a member of the Northeastern Kentucky Fish & Game Association. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Additional survivors include his wife, Debbie Daniels Scott of Ashland; a stepson, Rick Phelps of Ironton; an adopted son, Bradley Scott; a sister, Kelly Scott Ackerson, and husband Darrell of Cannonsburg; nephews Scott Willliamson and wife Jonda and Sean Williamson; great-nephews Drew and Cole Williamson; great-niece Madison Taylor; and a host of loving family members and friends.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Steve Harvey. Kathy Markins will provide a musical selection. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Scott, O.M. Scott, Sean Williamson, Scott Williamson, Bill Penix and Jeff Runyon.

Pauline Rose - 1928-2008
Dixie Pauline Allen Rose, 79, of Wurtland, Ky., departed this life on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Rose was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Lynn, Ky., a daughter of the late Marques DeLafayette and Nellie Bly Fossitt Fannin. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Allen in 1970 and Frank Rose in 1988; three brothers, Junior Fannin, Irving Fannin and William “Bud” Fannin; and two sisters, Margaret Fannin and Nellie Fannin Hammonds.
She was a member of Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods, Ky. She was currently employed for 13 years as a greeter at the Ashland Wal-Mart, where she was referred to by other employees as the Wal-Mart Mom. She volunteered at the former Lynn Elementary School and Wurtland Manor Healthcare Facility. She was a former member of Greenup Rebekah Lodge 100 and was a Kentucky colonel.
She is survived by a son, Jerry (Rita) Allen of Lloyd, Ky.; a stepson, Frank Wayne (Debbie) Rose of Gallipolis, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Teresa Gail Johnson of Worthington, Ky.; two sisters, Love Conley of Argillite, Ky., and Loris Bowling of Wurtland; six grandchildren, the Rev. Michael (Tonya) Allen of Sanford, Mich., Dr. Brian (Kristin) Allen of Georgetown, Ky., Chad (Kim) Johnson of Circleville, Ohio, Melissa Johnson of Worthington, Derek Rose of Gallipolis and Ryan (Mandy) Rose of Chillicothe, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah and Bethany Allen, Austin and Sidney Allen, Maddox Johnson and Carson Rose.
Pauline will be sadly missed by special friends Harold and Phyllis Terry and Sandy Riggs, along with a host of other close friends, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Jim Stamper.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Quillen Cemetery at Lynn, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.
Funeral arrangements are in honor of Mrs. Rose’s prearranged request.

Pauline Waugh Evans - 1927-2008
Pauline Waugh Evans, 80, of Grayson, Ky., passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008, in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.
She was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Toney and Mary Rogers Waugh.
She was a homemaker and a member of Straight Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Delbert Evans; a daughter, Ruby Irene Evans; two brothers, Garland Waugh and Bill Waugh; and four infant brothers.
Her survivors include two daughters, Mary (Cecil) Cains of Denton, Ky., and Rebecca (and the late Roger) Layne of Ironton, Ohio; four sons, James (Patricia) Evans of Denton, Michael (Jennifer) Evans of Winchester, Ky., Richard (Loretta) Evans of Greenup, Ky., and William Evans of Grayson; three sisters, Charlotte (Henry) Kees of Grayson, Martha Morrow of Ashland, Ky., and Evelyn (Howard) Davis of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; four brothers, Howard (Linda) Waugh of Rattlesnake Ridge, Leonard (Ruth) Waugh of Ohio, Frank (Norah) Waugh of Denton and Donald (Pat) Waugh of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Jerry Farmer, minister. Burial will be in Waugh Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Beatty
Margaret Flora Hoover Beatty, 103, of Ashland, died.
Her husband, William Joseph Beatty, died in 1967.
A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland, where there will be a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

Kathy Griffitts - 1971-2008
Kathryne Louise “Kathy” Markin Griffitts, 37, of Ashland, died Thursday in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.

Zachary Shoemaker - 1992-2008
Zachary Russell Shoemaker, 15, of Olive Hill, died Wednesday in University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born Nov. 7, 1992, in Rowan County.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Owens Cemetery in Emerson.

Fred Staniford Jr. - 1968-2008
Fred Staniford Jr., 40, of Boonscamp, died Wednesday in Louisa.
He was born Feb. 28, 1968, in Wabash, Ind.
His wife, Samantha Lynn Burchett Staniford, survives.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Jim Mollett Cemetery in Boonscamp.

Ashley Blanton - 1975-2008
Ashley Christopher Blanton, 33, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Paintsville, died Monday in Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla.
She was born Feb. 24, 1975, in Columbus, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Volney Allen - 1923-2008
Volney D. Allen, 85, of Langley, died Thursday in Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Hueysville.
His wife, Joyce Preston Allen, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery at Eastern.

Myrtle Canterbury - 1921-2008
Myrtle E. Burchett Canterbury, 87, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday in Highlands Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Woods.
Her husband, William Albert “Bill” Canterbury, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Judy Sallee
Judy McGuire Sallee, 67, of Middletown, Ohio, died Wednesday in Middletown.

William L. “Junior” White - 1930-2008
William L. “Junior” White, 77, of Willow Wood, died Wednesday at a local health care center.
He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Lawrence County.
