Dormie Barker - 1917-2008
Dormie Barker, age 90, of Ashland, Ky., died May 16, 2008 in King’s Daughters and Sons Home.
He was born June 29, 1917, in Elliott County, Ky., a son of the late David Nelson and Mae Edwards Barker.
In addition, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nan Hall Barker in 2002; a son, Jeff Barker; three brothers, Hiram, Durward and David Barker; and two sisters, Garnett Bocook and Lona Hart.
He was a former leather worker with A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. and a crane operator.
Surviving are two sons, Donald R. and wife, Linda Gallaher, Barker and Larry A. and wife, Linda Hurtz, Barker of Ashland; a brother, Darrell Barker of Greenup County, Ky.; a sister, Sarah Barker of Ashland; grandchildren, Teresa Hammond, Lisa Riffe, John Barker, Donald Joseph Barker and Leigh Ann Riddle; and great-grandchildren, Lindsay Riffe, Megan Riffe, Zachary Hammond, Tyler Hammond, Savannah Hammond and Kaleigh Paige Riddle.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Jim Nichols. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Hazel Sparks Phillips - 1921-2008
Mrs. Hazel Sparks Phillips, age 86, of Maysville, Ky., formerly of Olive Hill, Ky., passed peacefully from this life Friday morning, May 16, 2008, surrounded by her children, in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.
Mrs. Phillips was born Oct. 27, 1921 in Elliott County, Ky., and is a daughter of the late Ballard and Tina Nichols Sparks.
Hazel was a homemaker, and devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was affiliated with the First Church of the Nazarene in Olive Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Wylie Phillips; five brothers, Stirl Sparks, Chester Sparks, Arlie Sparks, Winford Sparks and Estill Sparks; and two sisters, Blanche Holmberg and Opal Rice.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Angela Phillips of Bangor, Maine, Colin and Kay Phillips of Beaufort, S.C., Gary and Vicki Phillips of Louisville, Ky., and Michael and Leslie Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Audia Fannin of Milton, Ind., June and Wesley Dulin of Fayetteville, N.C., Pamela and Peter Pitsinos of Newburgh, New York, Lois and Robert Wombles of Midway, Ky., and Brenda and Dale Aikin of Louisville, Ky.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother James Muncy officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Memorial Park in Olive Hill.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday, and until the service hour Monday at the funeral home.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Ronnie Edgar Holt - 1947-2008
Ronnie Edgar Holt, 60, of Louisa, Ky., passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 15 in Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.
Ronnie was born July 26, 1947, in Aflex, Ky., the son of the late Edgar and Ruth Jones Holt. He was a retired CSX Railroad heavy machine operator, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Apperson #195 F&AM Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his loving family, wife, Helen Fraley Holt; two daughters, Shalon Heather Holt and Keisha Fallon Holt, all of Louisa; and two sisters, Gerdale Bradshaw of Louisa and Charlene Vick of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his parents, a brother, Carson Holt, precedes Ronnie in death.
The Rev. Ric Frazier and the Rev. Jason Cassell will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at the Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will follow in Yatesville Memorial Gardens in Louisa.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 tonight at the funeral home and military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars at the cemetery on Sunday afternoon.

Sunny R. Wenning, 67, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Ashland, died May 8 in Green Hills Nursing Home in Nashville.
He was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Ashland.
His wife, Rita Ryan Wenning, survives.
The funeral was May 12 at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, Ill.

Jack B. Hanks, 78, of Ashland, died Friday in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Frances Jeanette Bruce Parsons, 66, of Ashland, died Friday at her residence.
She was born Jan. 23, 1942.
Her husband, Joel Douglas Parsons, survives.
A Catholic Scripture service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church in Ashland. A Protestant funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery following a committal service.

Virginia “Ginny” Thompson - 1947-2008
Virginia Gloria “Ginny” Thompson, 61, of Ashland died Thursday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born March 4, 1947, in New Jersey.
Her husband, Roger Lee Thompson, survives.

Charles Jancsek, 85, of Flatwoods, died Friday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
