Scott F. Colburn - 1971-2008
Scott F. Colburn, 36, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday evening, May 14, 2008, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 15, 1971, in Princeton, W.Va., a son of Allan Colburn Sr. of Florida and the late Josephine Justice Colburn.
He was a sign language interpreter for 25 years. He was a member of Christ Temple Church in Ashland, where he was an associate minister, youth leader, Sunday school teacher and playwright. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Apostolic Bible Institute.
Additional survivors include his loving wife, Kimberly Thomas Colburn of Ashland; sons Antwan, Antonio and Aroq; grandmother Marjorie Justice of Princeton; brothers Allan Colburn Jr. (Jackie) and William Colburn, both of Princeton; sisters Elthel Colburn of Princeton and Rose Kemper (Thomas) of Huntington, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Brielyn and Brooklyn Colburn; 22 nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of loving family members, friends and devoted church family. Also surviving are 63 former foster children.
Services will be at noon Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Christ Temple Church in Ashland by Suffragan Bishop Elzy Thomas.
Visitation will be after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Services are under the direction of Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Lillian James Rice - 1927-2008
Mrs. Lillian James Rice, 80, of Olive Hill, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, May 14, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Rice was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Carter County, a daughter of the late James Samuel and Stella May Everman James.
Lillian was a homemaker and a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a Christian and a member of Three Pines Freewill Baptist Church in Olive Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald Carl Rice; 10 brothers, Festus Reed James, Glen Allen James, Buford James, John James, Gilbert James, Charlie James, Clifford James, Dennis James, Watt Dean James and James R. James Jr.; and three sisters, Nixola Valandingham, Opal Lowe and Thelma Jessie.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, William Donald and Lyda Sue Rice and Ronnie and Kay Rice, all of Olive Hill, Phillip and Melissa Rice of Ashland, Ky., and Jimmy and Terina Rice of Marion, N.C.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Steve Stout of Bidwell, Ohio, Vicky and David Lands of Morehead, Ky., Carla Rice and Raymond Martin of Olive Hill and Jeannie and Dewayne Tackett of Keaton, Ky., and Teresa and Oral Lee Rigsby of Moon, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willie James of Grahn, Ky., and Phyllis James of Olive Hill; and two sisters, Geneva Waugh of Wayne, W.Va., and Connie Justice of Pikeville, Ky. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Andy Lands and Brother Gary Sparks. Burial will be in Olive Hill Memorial Park in Olive Hill.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Stephen Stout, Jay Stout, Billy Rice, Jonathan Rice, Todd Lands, Brad Kiser and Justin Clark will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Offill.

Thomas Davis - 1953-2008
Thomas Lamont Davis, 55, of Hebron, Ind., died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born Feb. 16, 1953, in Tallahassee, Fla.
His wife, Rebecca Lynn Hunter Davis, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Living Stones Fellowship Church in Crown Point, Ind.
Geisen Funeral, Cremation and Reception Centre in Crown Point is in charge of arrangements.
Steen Funeral Homes in Ashland are in charge of local arrangements.

Juanita Pennington - 1925-2008
Juanita Pennington, 82, of Flatwoods, died Thursday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Sandy Hook.
Her husband, Randolf, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at East Carter County Memory Gardens.
There will be no visitation.

Freda Parson - 1950-2008
Freda Church Parson, 58, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, died Monday in Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Ohio.
She was born March 29, 1950.
Her husband, Samuel Lee Parson, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Allen Family Cemetery.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary McCarty - 1932-2008
Mary M. McCarty, 75, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., died May 7 in Lakepointe Villa Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Kentucky.
Her husband, Willard McCarty, preceded her in death.
A graveside service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.
Young Funeral Home in Louisa was in charge of arrangements.
