Imogene Manning (1931-2009)

Marcella Imo “Imogene” Manning, 77, of Ashland, went to her eternal rest to be with her heavenly savior on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness.

Imogene was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Morgan County, Ky., to the late Charles Wesley and Mattie Susan Craft Roberson. She was a member of Tri-State Gospel Assembly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy Roberson; a sister, Gloria Hardin and an infant granddaughter, Marci Allison Manning.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Manning of Ashland; a daughter, Charlotte (David) King of Catlettsburg; a son, Fred (Linda) Manning of Ashland; a grandson, Joseph Corey Manning and a granddaughter, Samantha (Jim) Reeves.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, by Pastor Terry Crowe at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Imogene’s memory may be made to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.



Woodrow Wilson “Bud” Haney Jr. (1940-2009)

Woodrow Wilson “Bud” Haney Jr., 68, of Ashland, Ky., died May 12, 2009, in Edgewood Manor in Lucasville, Ohio.

He was born July 11, 1940, in Ashland, a son of the late Woodrow Wilson Haney Sr. and Gladys Hudson.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Gillium.

He was a retired carman with CSX Railroad and a member of Eagles and the VFW in Ashland, Flatwoods American Legion Post 325 and the North American Hunting Club.

Surviving are sons Darrell Haney (Michelle) of Grove City, Ohio, and Phillip Haney of Ashland; daughters Shelia O’Neal (Sam) of Carroll, Ohio, and Rachel Carter of Florida; brothers Bobby Haney of Toledo, Ohio, and Billy Haney of Ashland; sisters Mary Dickenson of Memphis, Tenn., and Debbie Suttles of Ashland; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15 at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Dr. Thomas Melvin. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 14 at the funeral home.



Gary D. Gamble (1955-2009)

Gary D. Gamble, 53, of Wurtland, Ky., died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 2, 1955, a son of the late Hassel Gamble and Irene Joelaz Gamble.

He was an EMT with EMS in Portsmouth, Ohio, and a member of Tunnel Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Bowen Gamble; a son, Adam Gamble of Georgia; a daughter, Savannah Gamble, at home; a stepdaughter, Brittany Smith of Westwood, Ky.; two grandchildren, Dillon Gamble and Gregory Gamble, both of Georgia; a brother, Marty Gamble of New Jersey; and a sister, Kathy Gamble of Ashland, Ky.

There will be no funeral service or visitation.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.



Berry Smith Jr. (1932-2009)

Berry Smith Jr., better known as Junior to family and close friends, 77, of Grayson, Ky., and 609 Highway 466, Lady Lake, Fla., and formerly of Westwood, Ky., died Tuesday evening, May 12, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland following a long illness.

Mr. Smith as born March 21, 1932, in Ashland, Ky., and reared in Westwood, a son of the late Berry Smith Sr. and Mattie Mae Williams Smith. He was a retired foreman in the coating department of Armco (AK) Steel Corp. in Ashland.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, including George Ray Smith, Arthur “Charlie” Smith, Willie Mitchell Smith, Hattie Mae Adams and Myrtle Marie Wright.

Surviving are his lovely wife, Viola Dyer Smith; four sons, Berry Lee (Liz) Smith of Prosperity, S.C., David Keith Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah, Curtis Brian (Kim) Smith of West Point, Utah, and Jeffrey Dean (Beth) Smith of Nicholasville, Ky.; three daughters, Evelyn Marie Fannin of Nicholasville, Cheryl Ann (Tony) Jackson of Lexington, Ky., and Sandra Kay (Johnny) Terry of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Karen Jo (Tom) Wheeler of Catlettsburg, Ky., and stepson, James Keith Stewart of Catlettsburg, both of whom he raised; a brother, Paul Edward “Abe” (Virginia) Smith of Mandarin, Fla.; a sister, Polly Ann Tunnicliff, of Wilmington, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; three additional stepdaughters, Deborah (Jim) Everman of Grayson, Donna (Tim) Chamberlin of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Rachael (Paul) Whitmarsh of Portland, Maine; two additional stepsons, Donald (Kelly) Cooke of Grayson and Zachary (Vicki) Henderson of Wheelersburg; and seven additional stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Grayson, 162 N. Court St. (Veterans Square) by Brother Paul Cox. Burial will br in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.

Katherine Steele (1921-2009)

Katherine Steele, 88, of Ceredo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, following a lengthy illness.

Katherine was a former resident of Ceredo Manor.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dock’s Creek Cemetery in Kenova with the Rev. Rabun Haddock officiating.

Katherine was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Catlettsburg, Ky., the daughter of Taze and Isabelle VanHoose Rickman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Arthur Steele.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Johnson and husband Bill of Chesapeake, Va.; and two sons, Claude Arthur Steel and wife Linda of Huntington and Taze Steel and wife Becky of Huntington, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Rebecca Justice (1974-2009)

Rebecca Justice, 35, of Ashland, died Monday in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

She was born May 11, 1974, in Boyd County.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Winslow Cemetery.

Friends may call an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.



Vonderine Evans

Vonderine Evans, 76, wife of Vernon Evans of Ashland, died Tuesday.

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Keith Grubb (1961-2009)

Keith Arlen Grubb, 47, of Olive Hill, died Tuesday in Elliott County.

He was born May 13, 1961, in Boyd County.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Lemaster Cemetery at Lawton.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday and until services Saturday at the funeral home.

Otis Fee

Otis Fee, 84, of Campton, died Tuesday in Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson.

His wife, Roberta Collett Fee, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Collett Family Cemetery in Salyersville.



Tennis Salisbury (1924-2009)

Tennis Samuel Salisbury, 85, of Harold, husband of Bonnie Sue Tackett Salisbury, died Tuesday in Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born April 11, 1924, in Barnabus, W.Va.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lower Toler Church of Christ in Harold. Burial will be in Family Cemetery in Harold.

Raymond “Candy Man” Johnson (1945-2009)

Raymond L. “Candy Man” Johnson, 63, of Morehead, died Tuesday in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Oct. 28, 1945.

His wife, Janine “Jan” Fairchild Johnson, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Ditney Cemetery.

Glen Fletcher

Glen Fletcher, 66, of Sal-yersville, died Tuesday.

Robert Lee Meade, 63, of Wittensville, died Monday at his residence.

He was born Dec. 20, 1945, in Floyd County.

His wife, Connie Faye Collins Meade, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the residence. Burial will be in Meade Cemetery in Wittensville.

Earl J. Osborne, 69, of West Liberty, died Wednesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Donald Waugh (1945-2009)

Donald Lee Waugh, 64, of Kitts Hill, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born April 12, 1945, in Ironton.

His wife, Rachel Jeanette Dickess Waugh, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Bald Knob Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 8850.
