Edna Kouns (1919-2008)
Edna B. Kouns, 88, of Ashland, died Saturday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born July 15, 1919, in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of the late Andrew and Ida Mae Silvus Mitchell. She was the wife of the late Cecil Willard Kouns.
She was a Nazarene and a devoted homemaker.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Robert and Debra Lynn Kouns, Cecil Edward and Glema Kouns and Gerald Wayne and Betty Kouns, all of Ashland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Jean and Clarence Elwood Barker and Ida Rose and Gary Bostick, all of Ashland; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Donny McKenzie. Burial will be in Kouns Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marsha Wagner (1954-2008)
Marsha A. Fannin Wagner, 54, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died at 8:58 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, in The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, where she had been a patient three weeks following an extended illness.
Marsha was born March 22, 1954, in Ashland, to William John and Jean L. Pennington Fannin. She was a 1972 graduate of Miami Trace High School.
She was owner and manager of Mar-Fan Boutique in Portsmouth after completing advanced studies in hair design. She attended Sugar Grove United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father on Aug. 23, 1978; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fannin and Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Pennington; an aunt, Betty Lettingham; and an uncle, H. E. Fannin.
Marsha is survived by her mother, Jean L. Fannin; a brother, William (J.) Fannin Jr.; her husband, Jim Wagner; a niece, Fara Jo Fannin; a nephew, W. J. Fannin III and his wife, Lanita, and her son, Chase; a great-nephew, Cameron J. Fannin; four paternal aunts in Greenup County, Lena Mae Griffith and her husband, Clarence, Anna Lee Miller, Cathlene Fannin Holt and Kolene Worthington; a maternal aunt, Patricia Pennington Arnett; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup County by the Rev. Jack Edwards.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Thomas Sarven (1931-2008)
Thomas J. Sarven, 76, of Lawrenceville, Ohio, passed away at 11 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Ashland, the son of the late Thomas S. and Daisy Horn Sarven. Mr. Sarven was retired from Springfield Chrysler and Roger’s Garage.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven R. Sarven; two sisters, Frances Sarven and Rosa Dean; and three brothers, Lawrence, David and Ray Sarven.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiana Clere Sarven, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1954; three children, George Thomas Sarven of North Hampton, Ohio, Darrell R. (Nanci) Sarven and David M. Sarven, both of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Amber, Tommy, Tyler, Josh, Brandi, Zach, Ali and Kyle; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Mary) Sarven of Springfield and William (Harriett) Sarven of Ashland; a sister, Minnie (Ralph) Spears of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home in Springfield by Pastor Dwight Coffelt. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery.

Deanna Vandixhorn (1947-2008)
Deanna O’Brien Vandixhorn of Huntington, W.Va., was taken from our midst on Friday, May 9, 2008, at her home on Collis Avenue.
Deanna was 61 years of age, born on March 4, 1947, in Iowa City, Iowa, a daughter of the late Edwin and Helen Brant O’Brien. She was most recently employed at Sitel of Huntington and of the Methodist faith.
Sadly left behind are two beautiful daughters, Tamra Jacob and her partner, Steve Bentley, of Rush and Krista Jacob and her husband, James Oliver, of Des Moines, Iowa; three brothers, Edwin O’Brien and wife Jane of Iowa City, Larry O’Brien and wife Leslie, of Whirlin, Ore., and Terry O’Brien of Iowa City; and three precious grandsons, Gregory Bentley, Max Jacob-Oliver and Colin Jacob-Oliver.
A solemn memorial to honor and remember Deanna will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street In Catlettsburg. Bobby Ekers and the Rev. Michael Rice will share words of comfort and inspiration.
Those wishing to call may do so after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ella Rice (1919-2008)
Ella Mae Rice, 88, of Ashland died Saturday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Aug. 13, 1919.
Funeral will be noon Wednesday at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Virgil Waugh (1935-2008)
Virgil “Buck” Waugh, 73, of Olive Hill, died Friday at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Carter County.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Douglas Roar (1954-2008)
Douglas Lee Roar, 54, of Olive Hill, died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1954, in Alliance, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Oiive Hill. Burial will be in Mountain Top Cemetery in Carter County.

Mary Gulley (1924-2008)
Mary Violet Riley McElroy Gulley, 84, of Morehead, died Friday at the home of her niece in Carter County.
She was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Emerson.
Her husband, Arnold Gulley, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead. Burial will be in Stevens Cemetery at Emerson in Lewis County.

Raymond Craft, 73, of Sandy Hook, died Saturday at his residence.

Wishard Lemaster
Wishard Lemaster, 91, of Salyersville, died Sunday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Salyersville Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Fredrick Burchett (1960-2008)
Fredrick Keith Burchett, 48, of Sitka, died Sunday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 9, 1960, in Johnson County.
His wife, Unoka Sharon Richmond Burchett, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in family cemetery at Sitka.

Angela Meek (1967-2008)
Angela Sue Malone Meek, 40, of Thelma, died Thursday in Pana, Ill.
She was born June 17, 1967, in Columbus, Ohio.
Her husband, Robert Lee Meek, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Blankenship Cemetery at Thelma.

Victoria Vermilyea (1921-2008)
Victoria T. Vermilyea, 87, of Ironton, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born March 1, 1921, in Philadelphia.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
