Ruth Huston (1921-2008)
Ruth Dean Huston, 87, of Ashland died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. She was born May 10, 1921, in Olive Hill, the daughter of the late Clyde and Stella Webb Dean. She was a retired teacher from Wylie and Crabbe Elementary schools in the Ashland Public School System, and she also was a teacher in the Carter County School System. She was a member of the Kenova Church of Christ.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Huston; two sons, P.R. Huston and Larry Michael Huston; two brothers, Levangel Dean and Eugene Dean.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe “Bo” Huston of Ashland and Sam and Marsha Huston of Catlettsburg; one sister, Patty McLaurin of Ocala, Fla.; three brothers, Kendall Dean, Terry Dean, both of Olive Hill, and Lloyd Dean of Mansfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Andy Huston, Adam Huston, Angie Wright, Deron Huston, P.J. Huston, Corey Huston, Mindy Huston, Valerie Crisp, Hadley Rue and Justin Rue; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Huston, Ryan Huston, Matthew Wright, Emily Wright, Sarah Wright, Candace Jones, Gage Huston, Cameron Huston; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Terry Dean. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dallace Hill (1926-2008)
Dallace Hill, 81, of Ashland died Friday at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Ophir, the son of the late William Spencer and Pearlie Ina Hill. He was retired from the United States Postal Service, a World War II Army veteran and was a Baptist.
He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Johnnie (Lige) Hill, Proctor (Hilda) Hill, Willard (Gertie) Hill, Jesse (Ada) Hill and Charlie (Priscilla) Hill; and two sisters, Wandarene (Forest) Lyons and Maude (Herschel) Dawson.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie McDowell Hill; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl and Bruce Kazee of Westwood and Sheena Hill of Ashland; one brother and sister-in-law, Woodie and Barb Hill of Boyd County; three grandchildren, Ross Ryan Daugherty, Athena Le’Dell Roar and Eric Matthew Kazee; four great-grandchildren; and two godchildren, Trey (Ashley) Withrow and Tyler Withrow.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home by Scottie Hill, minister. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Hill, Michael McDowell, Danny Davis, Donald McDowell, Jonathan McDowell, Frankie Short, Trey Withrow, Tyler Withrow, Ryan Daugherty and Eric Kazee.
Joseph Kearns (1914-2008)
Joseph Andrew Kearns, 94, of Ashland died Friday in Dayton, Ohio.
His wife, Jeanne B. Kearns, preceded him in death.
Arrangements are pending at this time.
Mary Clemmons (1916-2008)
Mary Alice Clemmons of Wake Forest, N.C., formerly of Ashland, died Friday at her home.
She was born June 16, 1916, in Ashland.
Her husband, Henry Francis Clemmons, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home Chapel in Wake Forest. A private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C.
Edna Kouns
Edna B. Kouns, 88, of Ashland died Saturday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Arrangements are pending at Marshall Steen Funeral Home in Ashland.
James Wicker
James K. Wicker, 33, of Greenup died Thursday at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., from injuries sustained from a car accident.
His wife, Marie Wicker, survives.
Funeral at noon Tuesday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Virgil Waugh
Virgil Waugh, 73, of Olive Hill died Friday at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
His wife, Dorothy Callihan Waugh, survives.
Arrangements are pending at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill.
Melvena Wheeler (1931-2008)
Melvena Kegley Wheeler, 77, of Hillsboro, Ky., died Friday at her home.
She was born Jan. 29, 1931 in Elliott County.
Her husband, Jay Wheeler, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary Hatton (1921-2008)
Mary Haze Stanfield Hatton, 87, of Morehead died Saturday at Colonial Nursing Home in Bardstown.
She was born March 15, 1921.
Her husband, Kenneth Allender Hatton, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Marian Ferrie (1919-2008)
Marian K. Ferrie, 88, of Ironton died Friday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Ironton.
Her husband, George Dewey Ferrie, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery, Section P.
There will be no visitation.
Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton is in charge of the arrangements.
Ralph Jenkins (1926-2008)
Ralph E. Jenkins, 82, of Ironton died Saturday at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born March 17, 1926, in Ironton.
His wife, Betty Delong Jenkins, survives.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.
Visitation will be after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Violet Curtis
Violet Curtis, 62, of Ceredo, W.Va., died Wednesday.
Funeral will be Noon Monday at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home in Ceredo-Kenova, W.Va. Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery in Milton, W.Va.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
